A clip of last week’s Sacrifice plays. The clip in question is of Charlie Van Ruth knocking down Caleb Cannin with a Cyclone Kick. As he hits the kick, the footage slows down before speeding back up on impact. As Van Ruth poses on the turnbuckle, the clip cuts out.
“Who am I?”
A shot of a hooded figure is shown. The figure pulls back the hood to reveal Van Ruth, staring intensely into the camera.
“I’m the guy everyone should be worried about.”
Cut to Van Ruth sitting down on the apron of a boxing ring in the gym. He unscrews the cap of his water bottle, taking a swig.
“This will be my first singles match in a long time. I can’t even remember the last time Tyson wasn’t there with me. You know, I really did think about waiting until he healed up. We could come back in full force, not have to worry about the situation until after it was all done with. I know that, more than anything, he really didn’t want to miss this Japan tour. When he went to the doctors and they told he’d be out, the first thing he did was tell me that I could go without him. There wasn’t a moment of doubt with him. He wanted me to keep the Kings of Flight alive and well, one way or another.”
“When you don’t have your partner with you, you can start to feel lost. My hope is that, at Holiday Havoc, I can find a bit of myself. Okazaki, we’ve met a few times before. You had your partner and I had mine. This time, it’s just the two of us, one-on-one. As much as I want to believe that you’re taking this as seriously as I am, I know you aren’t. The Kings of Flight are 3-0 against you and Bronson, and I’d like to keep the streak going in the singles department. Get it through your head that this is sport and not another one of your silly anime shows. The sooner you realize you don’t live in a cartoon, the better.”
He shakes his head.
“Miyamoto, you are going to be hit with a harsh dose of reality. Most people our age would kill to work at the Tokyo Dome in front of thousands. I want to blow the roof off that place, but I can only do that if you’re willing to kick into that next gear. You can have your little robed men, you can have Alek Bronson by your side, just know that you will have to face the facts on Friday night. If I have to run through you in order to break out as a singles competitor, then the pleasure is all mine. You had better leave it all on the line or you may as well leave your wrestling boots at the door.”
Standing up, he looks at the camera one more time.
“Make no mistake, son, there are only three letters that matter in this business and they aren’t IWF… it’s CVR. Good luck.”
He walks off as the camera cuts out to black.
