Sabin picks up his daughter, and cradles her in his arms whilst walking toward Jennie…in turn, Jennie is smiling from ear to ear, as is Mikaela Jade, and Jennie squeals, “My munchkin!”
Sabin carefully hands Mikaela Jade over to Jennie, as she begins smothering the infant with several kisses and blowing raspberries against her arm which causes the infant to giggle uncontrollably. Jennie pivots on her heels, turning back toward the doorway, “I’m going to take little miss thang down to play with Lilith! I’m sure they’ve missed each other! And you– you should probably clean this place up… before your mom sees that you are bringing more girls around…”
“I’ll get right on that,” Sabin says, forcing a half-smile as Jennie walks out of the room.
She reaches a hand back to pull the door closed as she is exiting, and as the door swings to a close, Sabin sees someone, or rather, something else standing just behind the door. Wraith. With a mischievous smile on their face, they take a couple of steps forward, and Sabin turns alongside the monster to join them in the stroll back toward the balcony, “Make things right,” Wraith says with a chuckle, and licks their lips, “Make things right!” Wraith repeats with a much bolder tone.
“Last year was…” Wraith snarls, “A tragedy. It was disappointing because I remember how hard we fought, I remember how badly we wanted it; how badly we wanted to walk out with our title in our hands, and I know that we have changed our vision…slightly…since. We have changed our vision into doing what we have not yet done; we have changed our vision from the IWF Men’s World Championship, for Father’s sake, and we have targeted everything else! But…that is the funny thing about plans… they change… again. They change based on our opportunity, and this is an opportunity that we cannot afford to squander! An opportunity to march back into the cursed event, and take back what it took from us. We can–” Wraith’s bares their teeth as a predator baring their fangs, salivating at the thought that crosses their mind, “–do something better. We would be the GREATEST! WARRIOR! The GREATEST! PREDATOR! That the IWF would ever know when we are walking around with the grandest prize in the company… the grandest prize in the business!”
They begin to chuckle, and with every step that Wraith takes forward, the world around them begins to dissipate and disperse… Even Sabin disperses, leaving Wraith alone within the confines of the void. Other objects to start to materialize within the confines of the void, including the stage that was set at High Stakes last year…the beginning of the downfall, what Wraith felt would only be the start of their reign, but there was another rising star… JC Keeton… the one who would go on to win the Roulette, and eventually take the title away from JC Keeton.
“I wanted to compete in the Roulette last year…” Wraith mutters, “Truly, I did. Even as the champion– I wanted to change the game! I wanted to do something different– something new– I wanted to win the Roulette, and be able to do something that no other champion has been able to do in the history of the Imperial Wrestling Federation… I wanted to name my opponent for Night of the Immortals. I wanted to walk into the Roulette against all of the competition, and ensure that I sent the message right then and there: I was not the one to be trifled with. I was not the one that you wanted to be in the ring with. I was not the one that you could ever believe you truly had a shot against! The fact of the matter is that I wanted everyone to know that they were battling…for second place, and I wanted whoever I named as my challenger to know that I have already proven myself! I was already not going to be stopped! The only reason that they would have been named… would have been… so I… could… hurt them.”
During the speech, the void continues to play through last year’s Roulette event. The dominance from the likes of Stephen Terrella, eliminating more people than anyone else, but seeing the perseverance out of JC Keeton as he continued to battle everyone…both known and stranger to the company, and was able to finally stand tall in the center of the ring.
“That was not how the stars aligned, was it? No. Fate– destiny– whatever you want to call it, it already decided that JC Keeton was going to fulfill his dream… JC Keeton was already going to win the event; JC Keeton was already going to take the title! But destiny is funny… Because it gave everything– it gave me everything, and took it away. It gave JC Keeton, and took it away! Destiny– is looking at the Roulette, and it already knows who it has selected to walk out as the winner; destiny is already looking ahead at Night of the Immortals, and it knows who is going to walk out as the IWF Men’s World Championship. It knows– who– it has selected… But do you want to know what I have to say about destiny this year?” Wraith asks the rhetorical question, folds their hands behind their back, and leans forward. They wait for several seconds for an answer that will never come.
“You coming?” a voice echoes throughout the void, and causes everything in the void to disperse as we re-emerge within the normal realm.
Jennie was standing back in the doorframe with her head poked into the bedroom, to see Sabin standing there. There was no hiding the look on his face; he looked…out of place, but he licks his lips, and overlooks his bedroom before subtly nodding, “Yeah– yeah. Where are we going?”
“The zoo!” Jennie exclaims.
