If you were to take a look at Emmanuelle’s Instagram or Twitter accounts, you’d be forgiven if you thought the young woman preparing to make her debut didn’t work a day in her life. Raised in luxury and living a privileged life, some would probably be surprised to find her in a gym. Her lithe but deceptively strong body lifting weights that most would not think possible for a woman her size. Her hair done up in a pony-tail, no make up…the glitz and glamor stripped away as she trains in the ring like a woman possessed. She doesn’t just train herself, but also works with younger, aspiring wrestlers. The jovial, easy-going nature that many wrestling fans know her for is absent, giving way to intense stares, sharp screams of instruction. Every detail of a trainee’s workout is scrutinized, every flaw lambasted without mercy. Those that are training with her know that her training is relentless, but understand that it comes from a place of tough love. All around them they see the results of Emmy’s passion for the business: promotional posters, replica championship belts, trophies.
Once the training session is finished, the Emmanuelle that the world knows takes center stage for an interview with Ella Kelley. She’s the kind of interviewer that Emmy enjoys having around: pretty, intelligent and as catty and as petty as the Platinum Standard herself.
“You all know the name by now. You’ve heard the rumors. You’ve seen the photos. Now it’s time to experience the present and future of professional wrestling with your own eyes. My name is Emmanuelle Alicia DiNardo, but you can simply call me Emmanuelle. Ever since the day I decided that I would become a professional wrestler, I’ve been built differently from other people. Well, honestly…my whole LIFE I’ve just been built different. I was an athlete in high school, a collegiate All-American at UCLA in water polo. I’ve run businesses, promoted other wrestlers, and beat the shit out of anyone who has gotten in my way in and out of the ring.”
“There are a lot of people who have personas, gimmicks, and pretend versions of themselves that they use to sell tickets. That’s not me. What you see on television, what you see when you buy tickets to watch Emmanuelle wrestle in person…that’s just me. No one you’ve seen has the swagger I do. No one you’ve seen has the skill, the looks, the fashion sense. Does this make me a better person than anyone? Well, no. But what it does, boys and girls and everyone in between, is make me the most sought after freelancer in the wrestling world. And now…I’m here. In the Imperial Wrestling Federation.”
“A lot of you are probably wondering to yourselves why come here? Why not another company, Emmy? Well, some of that is some minor personal business. Another reason is that unlike other companies I see, there’s no restriction or limitation on what I can do. Some federations still believe in the ancient, outdated tradition of no intergender wrestling. Considering that for most of the belts that I’ve held I’ve beaten men to get them, I’m not going to limit myself just to playing with the girls. If the boys are willing to fuck around and find out, they’re more than welcome to. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if I bulldozed through some of them at some point. It’s just what I do.”
“Does that mean that women’s wrestling is off the table? No. I came here with one reason in mind above all: to help the IWF Women’s Division grow and restore it to the prestige that it once had. This isn’t a knock on anyone in the locker room and it’s not a sign of disrespect to my first opponent, Birdie Winston. However, Everyone knows that once the bell rings for my debut, the cameras will be flashing, the hearts of millions of fans around the world will be racing. Journalists, pundits, bloggers, and everyone else will have baited breath about what happens….and they certainly will not be interested in Birdie Winston. That’s for me.”
“....And who am I to let those people down? They’re expecting a show and they’re going to get it. Those of you who know me know that I love the feel of gold and leather around my waist and it’s something that just comes naturally for me. WrestleWorld, Project: Honor, APEX Wrestling, and the SouthWest Wrestling Syndicate. Every stop has had ups and downs, trials and tribulations, victories and defeats..but through it all I collected belts and trophies. And now I’m here. To galvanize a division. To give the company the spark that it’s not felt in years. To expand my own global reach. And to give the wrestling world out there even more dream matches that they wouldn’t have thought possible.”
“This isn’t my first Odyssey. I’ve traveled the road of being a debutant in many promotions before. Some of you may even be expecting Miss Birdie to pull something of an upset! You may think that Emmanuelle is all hype, all show. All blow and no go. That’s where you’re wrong. There is not a single human being on earth who brings what I bring to a wrestling ring and I’m going to prove it week after week, match after match, until the inevitable occurs. What’s the inevitable that I’m speaking of? Figure it out!”
The interviews, the photo shoots, the meet and greets are not what drives Emmy. The clothes, the glamour of being a champion, none of that matters now. At one time, a more selfish, materialistic Emmy would have craved such. Not anymore. A second, rigorous workout follows her interview. She’s more than prepared for her debut, but she leaves nothing to chance. The arrogance that once led to her most humbling defeat is long gone. Arrogance was replaced with obsession. An obsession with competition. An obsession with building a legacy. An obsession with raising the Platinum Standard even higher than before.

“Should we believe the hype?”
“The hype about what?”
“About you, Emmy. The amount of hype going into your debut is unreal. It’s one of the more anticipated matches in recent IWF history.”
“There is no hype. Hype is for something imaginary, exaggerated. I’m all real.”

“What is your goal? What’s the driving force that brought you to the IWF?”
“I look at IWF and see what it could be. I see the champions, I see the roster, and I just feel that there is just one flash of a spark that’s needed to set things off. I want to win titles here, I want to be the best here like I’ve literally been everywhere I’ve shown up in the past. But this isn’t about just building my legacy, I want to help build this company’s wrestling legacy as well. There’s a lot of talent and a lot of quality wrestling that some people are missing and my presence will help bring that to light.”
“Don’t you think that saying you’re going to do all these things puts you squarely in the crosshairs of a lot of the IWF Women’s Division? It seems like you’re billing yourself as more of a savior than a wrestling star.”
“That’s up to their personal interpretation. I’ve got friends here, but I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to build something new, not prop up the old. Now if that ruffles some feathers, that’s fine by me. I’ve lived my life craving competition and if anyone believes that they can give me that, well then they should watch what goes down when I wrestle Birdie. The real ones already know, but the stubborn ones and the ignorant ones are going to have to find out for themselves.”
“Finish this sentence for me: Emmanuelle’s 2023 in IWF will be a success if she does….”
“If I become World Champion. I mean, I will not just limit myself to one thing while I’m here, but that’s the ultimate goal, isn’t it? If you’re not somewhere looking to be the best, there’s really no purpose of being there. I’m going to send a message on April 7th. The headlines are going to read that the IWF’s standards are raised. Hell, you can say that they’ll have gone Platinum by the time I’ve finished my debut. I’m here to be great and inspire greatness…and there’s nothing greater than standing at the top, right?”
