Brooklyn Madrox sat at the small kitchen table in her Las Vegas apartment, staring blankly at the wall in front of her. She had been feeling off for a while now, but she didn't want to believe that anything was seriously wrong. She’d always hated going to the doctor, the irony of that thought coming from a person who made their career from putting their body through hell was not lost on her. But, that was when she was in control - the thought of facing a potentially serious medical issue outside of her control was overwhelming and terrifying to her. Brooklyn didn't know what to do or where to turn.
Her sister April was out running errands, leaving Brooklyn alone with her thoughts. She couldn't help but think about what this could mean for her future in wrestling. The sport had been her life for years, and the thought of having to step away from it was absolutely crushing.
As she sat there, lost in thought, her phone rang, jolting her back to reality. A quick glance at the caller ID and she could see that it was her doctor. Brooklyn took a deep breath and answered the call.
"Hi, Doctor," Brooklyn said, trying to sound calm.
"Brooklyn, I'm glad I caught you," the doctor said. "I wanted to follow up on our conversation earlier. I'm concerned about your test results, and I think it's important that we schedule some more tests to get to the bottom of things."
Brooklyn's heart sank. She had been hoping for some different news.
"I understand," Brooklyn said, her voice cracking slightly. "But, do you really think more tests are necessary? I mean, couldn't this be just a false alarm?"
"I'm afraid not, Brooklyn," the doctor said firmly. "I don't want to scare you unnecessarily, but we need to be sure. Can we schedule the tests for tomorrow?"
Brooklyn agreed and hung up the phone and as she sat there, her mind began to race. She started to think about all the worst possibilities of what these tests might find. Then, of the potential medical treatments that could be offered to her. But then, she began to think about other options, like alternative medicine or perhaps reaching out to Rowan, to see if there was anything she could think of to try.
Brooklyn began weighing her options; she didn't want to go through the conventional medical route if she didn't have to. She trusted her instincts and felt like there had to be another way to address whatever the issue was at hand.
But as she sat there lost in thought, she suddenly realized that she had been curled up on the floor in a ball. She had been so consumed with worry that she had let her emotions take over.
The reality of the situation had fully set in, and it was scary. She didn't know what her future held or what the results of the upcoming tests would reveal.
But for now, she could only wait and hope for the best.
Brooklyn Madrox sat on the couch in her Las Vegas apartment, her eyes fixed on the TV screen as she watched her opponent, Latoya Hixx, in action. There was no denying that Latoya was one of the toughest wrestlers in the company, and Brooklyn knew that she would have her work cut out for her when they faced off this week. This, she admitted to herself, was part of the reason she’s even asked for this match.
As she watched Latoya losing effort against Jennie, Brooklyn's mind drifted back to her last match, which too had ended in defeat to the same woman. There were no excuses for that loss to Fenix. There was a reason why Jennie was holding that title, and Brooklyn knew it was going to be one heck of a challenge taking it off of her.
Brooklyn wasn’t alone on this overcast afternoon. Her sister April sat next to her on the couch, watching her with concern. April knew that Brooklyn had been dealing with a lot lately. But, what she didn’t know was to what extent the medical issues that had forced her to take time off from wrestling were resolved. April wanted to believe that Brooklyn was fully healed and ready to compete again, but she couldn't shake the worry that something might go wrong.
"You sure you're ready for this?" April asked, her voice tinged with concern. "I don't want you to push yourself too hard and end up hurting yourself again."
Brooklyn turned to face her sister, her eyes flashing with stubborn determination. "I'm more than ready," she said firmly.
"I've been training hard, and I feel better than ever. Do you think I can’t do this? Didn’t you see me out there against Jennie?"
April nodded, still looking unsure. "No, no I do … it’s just, I just don't want you to overdo it," she said. "You know how much stress this job can put on your body."
"I know," Brooklyn said, her voice softer now. "But this is what I love to do."
April's expression darkened slightly. She knew that there were two things that made Brooklyn happy. The second was wrestling, the first was her girlfriend.
"Speaking about love," April said slowly, "what does Rowan think of all this? Is she okay with you putting yourself through all of this?"
Brooklyn's face hardened at the question, and she shot her sister a sharp look. "Of course, she's okay with it," she said. "Rowan knows more than anyone how much wrestling means to me, and she's been nothing but supportive; and frankly, I don't need anyone questioning my decisions right now."
April looked taken aback by Brooklyn's sudden shift in mood, but she didn't press the issue. Instead, she simply nodded and looked away.
Brooklyn stood up from the couch and began to pace back and forth across the living room. She could feel the nerves starting to get the best of her, and she needed to move to shake them off.
"Look, I know that Latoya is tough," she said, more to herself than to April. "But I'm tougher. I'm not going to let her beat me."
April watched her sister with concern, her worry only growing as Brooklyn's anxiety seemed to mount. She wanted to say something to comfort her, to reassure her that everything would be okay. But she didn't know what to say.
“Hey, listen … just be safe, okay?" April said, the concern obvious in her voice.
Brooklyn laughed hesitantly and responded with a quick, “When am I not safe?" before dropping back down onto the sofa and reaching for the remote control.
The two sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. Neither of them was sure of how to address the unspoken tension and fear in either of their hearts.
Brooklyn found herself running through a dark and eerie forest. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest and her breath coming out in short gasps. She didn't know why she was running or what she was running from, but she knew she had to keep going.
As she ran deeper into the forest, the trees grew denser and the shadows grew darker. Brooklyn stumbled and fell several times, but she picked herself up and kept running. She felt like something was chasing her, but she couldn't see it or hear it. It was as if the unknown force was only in her mind.
Suddenly, Brooklyn stumbled into a clearing and froze in her tracks. The clearing was surrounded by trees that seemed to stretch up into the sky, and in the center of the clearing was a dark and foreboding cave. A chill ran down her spine as she realized that this was where the unknown force was leading her.
Despite her fear, Brooklyn felt an irresistible urge to enter the cave. She cautiously approached the entrance and peered inside. The darkness was impenetrable, and she could hear strange whispers and murmurs coming from within. She hesitated for a moment, but then she felt a hand on her shoulder, and she knew that she had to go in.
As she stepped inside the cave, the whispers grew louder and more urgent. She could hear her own heartbeat pounding in her ears as she moved deeper and deeper into the darkness. Suddenly, she saw a glimmer of light ahead of her, and she ran towards it.
As she burst out of the cave, she saw that she was standing on the edge of a cliff, overlooking a vast and endless abyss. The whispers were now deafening, and she could feel the unknown force closing in on her. With a scream, she fell into the abyss, and the darkness enveloped her.
Brooklyn woke up in a cold sweat, her heart pounding in her chest. She lay in bed for a moment, trying to shake off the feeling of dread that lingered in her dream. She knew that she had to face her fears and find a way to escape the unknown force that haunted her dreams.
