Two hours before the Trina Thames podcast...
"...know yourself..."
R.A. Marshall sat behind a desk at a makeshift studio, sipping from a mug of Earl Grey.
Whether it was frustration, depression, etc., he needed an avenue to keep himself calmed and focused for the upcoming podcast. Historically, he loathed talking to media types throughout his short Imperial run, and whether the reasons might be, he had plenty of them. Some had suggested that he didn't work hard enough. Some have argued that his trainer, Hall of Famer Fiona McFly, was going too soft on him after the Baldock incident.
And others?
They've said that Ram was nothing more but a child who didn't have the "it" factor they wanted him to have.
All of those voices, like mental scars, rang throughout his mind. In his heart, Ram had begun to appreciate wrestling for what it was -- a doorway to something much bigger. All of the perceptions have made him angry and, perhaps, vulnerable to unnecessary acts of violence. Yet as he looked down, he gazed upon a couple of pictures of him and his mother Bridget -- both from two different time periods.
One was from 2006, when he was just two years old.
The other had been taken this past March in Baldock, only a month or so before her passing.
Nearly a year ago, he didn't want to have anything to do with his mother. But deep in his heart, Ram felt a sense of comfort course through his body. She had named RAM-COM, an indy video game development studio, after the 19-year-old -- a final act of unconditional love from a woman wasn't around for the full blooming of Ram's life. Yet for one brief moment, at that pub north of London, Ram realized that he did the greatest thing he could ever do.
He had made peace with his mother, but he had to make peace with his past.
That was the "hole" in his game Fiona had warned him about. As the podcast got underway, an old Garth Brooks song began playing inside his head. The tune was a perfect illustration for the traumatic events that shaped his past -- and in a way, it helped him learn and evaluate from his experiences. These experiences featured an abusive uncle -- and a cheerful and overtly bubbly aunt who helped give Ram solace by getting him into the world of video games.
Thunder began to rumble in his head as Ram closed his eyes and took himself back a decade, to when he was just nine years old.
The beating he endured from his uncle began to flash like lightning in the skies above.
All the while, that little country-western song played on inside his mind...
"Three-thirty in the mornin', not a soul in sight
The city's lookin' like a ghost town on a moonless summer night
Raindrops on the windshield, there's a storm movin' in
He's headin' back from somewhere, that he never should have been
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls..."
...to be continued...

Allen Chaney.
The Comedian.
Seriouasly, y'all?! I come back from bereavement leave and find myself in the ring with a failed actor. Sure, that's all fine and dandy by me -- especially when you consider IWF has had no shortage of failed screen drama queens in the past. Crystal Millar, Kate Steele, Alek Bronson....yeah, the list goes on and on. Except, boy, there's just one minor problem we've got on our hands. I can sit there and make up a whole word salad about how much I despise jokers, but I'm just fixin' to keep it simple:
I ain't here to entertain your ass.
I ain't here to swap stories about Final Fantasy let's plays that went wrong.
I'm here for a rumble -- just like you.
You wanna know what's pathetic here? You've known wrestlin' your whole life. You started out doin' a sitcom that got panned and cancelled faster than an interview with Meghan Markle. You got pissed off at the world 'cause you didn't get the accolades you wanted to have. Listen, bubba...it's called FAILURE, and we all live with it in our lives. I wish I can sit heree and tell you that I wound up becomin' an overnight success story like Dane Preston, but guess what?!
I've done goofed up more times than you can even count.
I've heard the media types shit on those folks that helped me stay out of prison.
But that doesn't mean I'm takin' my ball and runnin' away 'cause I ain't doin' so well right now.
Let's be straight up with you, though...I understand why you love doin' what you love. You want to help people with anxiety and depression. You want to inspire people to be better than the sum of their own parts. You ain't afraid of walkin' around the locker room, sportin' your Kansas City Chiefs attire and preachin' to the choir about your love for BBQ sauce. But let's be crystal clear about one thing:
We're in my home state, bub.
And in Texas, we do EVERYTHING bigger.
That includes the ass-whuppin' that's fixin' to take place!!
You wanna hurt me? Good for you. You wanna throw hands with me?! I welcome it. You wanna try and put me through a goddamn TABLE?! Be my guest -- 'cause I can do all those things and then some! I've only been in this joint for a year, but come Friday you're gonna know EXACTLY what I'm capable of doin' out there. I've taken on gods, trained with Hall of Famers, and main evented shows before I'm even old enough to buy a case of Bud Light.
At Odyssey, the joke is gonna be on you Allen.
Not 'cause I think I'm better than you -- but 'cause I want it MORE than you.
You ain't at Arrowhead Stadium, Allen. This is Texas, and I've got the home state advantage. I dare you to march your happy ass out to that ring and shut me up. I dare you to get on a mic and say somethin' that will OFFEND the folks of the Lone Star State whose butts are gonna be in the seats. I dare you...to ponder the potential you might have to be a major star in this company and run with it!
But this first encounter?!
It's gonna be mine -- and that ain't no laughin' matter.
Later.
