Backstage, Caleb Cannin is talking to someone on the phone. His usual smirk is present, along with a tinge of excitement in his eyes.
“So, you’ll be there? Alright, cool. Yeah. Don’t worry, you’ll get exactly what you want. That’s a promise from the champ. Okay, see you later.”
He hangs up the phone, just in time for Maria Iniesta to shuffle over and ask for an interview.
“Backstage here with the IWF World Television Champion, Caleb Cannin, who will be in the main event of our go-home Odyssey heading towards Night of the Immortals. Caleb, there are big implications with this tag team match between you and the team of Nick Danger and James Gilmore. Whoever wins will get to pick the stipulation for your championship match at Night of the Immortals and we don’t even know who your partner is! Do you have any sort of plan?”
The Future lowers his sunglasses before taking the microphone from Iniesta’s hands.
“The thing is, Maria, I don’t need to have a plan against Danger and his little Yoda, James Gilmore. I don’t… but I still have one. You are talking to a strategic mastermind and one of the smartest minds to step inside an IWF ring. Of course I have a plan! As for my partner, you’ll have to wait and see like everybody else. There’s a reason this match is the main event of Odyssey, because I am main event material! I’m going to beat Nick Danger and his mummy sidekick within an inch of their lives, then I’ll go on to Night of the Immortals and I will be… immortal. And I think my partner would love to step into the ring against those two and show them how things get done around here.”
“It’s not difficult to see that Nick Danger needs back-up in order to try and stand a chance. He knows what it’s like to go one-on-one with The Future. I’m shocked he was stupid enough to try it again! You can talk about how you were almost the Television Champion, but almost winning doesn’t mean shit! Come Odyssey, you’ll know exactly why you’re in over your head for Night of the Immortals. As for your tag partner, James Gilmore, he should’ve stayed retired and never come back. You have a built-in legacy in this company and you’re about to risk it all for one of your little pet projects. If Danger had more than two brain cells left, he’d drop your ass faster than your wife did. Oh, you don’t like what I said? Well, take a ticket and get in line, bud. I don’t get paid to make motivational speeches, I get paid to dunk on douchebags and beat them up in the ring. That’s why I hold this championship and that’s why Nick Danger can never have it.”
His phone begins to ring, causing the champion to smile.
“It must be my partner. Sorry to leave the interview, sweetheart, but I’ve got a main event to worry about. Friday night, it’ll be the same shit on a different day. Caleb Cannin wins… and Nick Danger loses. Such is life.”
Walking away, he answers the phone and turns his back to Maria.
“Hey, how’s it going? Right, right, I think you should come to the arena a little bit later…”
As he walks off, Maria Iniesta turns to the camera and excitedly speaks.
“It will be an interesting main event to unfold on Odyssey! The Television Champion and his mystery partner will take on Nick Danger and the returning James Gilmore! You don’t want to miss it!”
The camera cuts out as Cannin can still be heard on the phone, discussing his plans for the main event.
