Somewhere in West Virginia
Emmanuelle wasn’t someone who typically needed to go out for long drives, but once she arrived in West Virginia the roads and scenes were just too beautiful to be ignored. Within a couple of hours of landing she had rented a car and found herself a wonderful little stretch of highway to drive down. The rental place, realizing that Emmy was a pretty big wrestling name and in town for a show, had no qualms about mounting her phone on the dashboard for a while to record some content. What was supposed to be a video about driving turned into something else…..
“Heh. John Denver. I didn’t really think someone like him could be a vibe for me but I’m all for it. It’s weird. I’ve got matches coming up thick and fast all over the place, a big match coming up here on the next edition of Odyssey. I’ll talk about that in a little bit, but there is something that is bugging me. I don’t mean this with any disrespect towards Calaway but I’m confused here. I beat her as part of a three way dance, right? Then how on earth am I supposed to sit here with a smile and watch as she’s holding onto a Championship in this company before me?“
It was something that Emmy was conflicted about commenting on. She didn’t know if she should comment on the situation at all but remembered that she had hardly let anything stop her from speaking truth before.
“I have wrestled nine times in an IWF ring, won six of them, but I got nothing. The Women’s World Champion doesn’t seem interested in facing me and the other titles exist in some kind of glass jar where I can see them but they’re out of my reach. I’ve made it very clear who and what I want and even though I’ve got wins on people this place seems to absolutely love, I hear nothing. No title shots. No tournament invites. No non-title matches with champions. Nothing. And I’m getting kinda tired of waiting.”
While Emmy’s eyes are focused on the road, the viewers at home can get a feel in the occasional glance that they do get gives them a feeling of urgency and simmering frustration from the aspiring champion.
“I understand that the champion has other commitments and other things going on with her time and I also understand that others are waiting for challenges as well. In that case, why don’t we narrow down the field a little bit? I have a feeling that this is why that match was made between me and Khardiata Senghor, I think I got her name right. Miss Senghor is also anxiously awaiting a chance to become Women’s World Champion too. Cockily strutting around, talking about how she’s not going anywhere and how she plans on working her way up. Cute. Super cute.”
With a stretch of road coming up that is ever twisting and fairly dangerous, Emmy keeps her eyes completely focused on the road.
“Well, the problem with what she’s saying is that you don’t become #1 Contender by just facing the top wrestlers…you get that #1 spot by beating them. I’ve got a win over a current title holder and six wins overall since I’ve arrived here compared to two losses. I’ve wrestled men and women since I’ve been here and have been successful against all. I know she’s had her struggles, losing to that little masked chick and then Atara….but she beat our current Invictus Champion so I have to take her somewhat seriously.”
Emmy almost chuckles as she’s back on a safer part of the road, letting her eyes drop just enough to point at the camera with her eyes focused on it.
“Miss Senghor, I gotta tell you. I’m impressed by your grit, your willingness to get dirty if you have to. Seems like that played a pretty important part in your victory against Alexandra. I just want to let you know a few things, ma. First: I’m not Alexandra. I will show you your proper respect. While you seem to have the personality of cold toast and the brain of a bird that flies backwards, you have unquestionable willingness to do the work. I’ve seen you do your little gym sessions while getting ready for other opposition. I am not “other” opposition. I’m the Platinum Standard and the SWWS World Champion. My credentials, as they say, are unlimited.”
After finding a beautiful rest area to park in, she decides to speak again, articulating more with her hands and appearing more and more excited about the match with each word she utters about it.
“I think that grindset shit is actually a detriment to you. I saw that the last time you had a match you were up in the gym working out and all that, trying to put on a front with how rested and recovered you are ... .seemed to me like it may have backfired a little. Now, I don’t know what kind of condition you’re in at the moment, but if you’re still hurt? Sweetheart, that’s a very, very bad deal for you. I’m one of the best in the world today and what separates me from a lot of these clowns isn’t my workout routine- which is damn strong, by the way- or my obsession with greatness…I pay attention to the little things. I knew that Serenity didn’t have as much experience as I when we faced off. The first time, I was able to grind out a draw with her because she was double tough and just refused to lay off the gas. The second time? I had her scouted. I used her strengths against her and eventually pulled out a victory. I remember a while back, this woman that I wrestled for a title that I still hold told me that no one wanted it more, that she was willing to do the work, blah blah blah. It sounds very similar to everything that I’ve heard from you on IWF programming.”
Emmy takes a deep breath, hoping that her words don’t cause offense.
“It’s not impressive. Anybody can work hard. What you have to do is be willing to go above and beyond. See, me? I’m willing to DIE in that wrestling ring. I don’t mean that in melodramatics or metaphorically, I’ll go out in the ring if I have to. I don’t care. And if I have to kill to get ahead? Guess what, I’ll go all the way in if that means that I get to stand at the end of the day with my hand raised. People throw their A game at someone like me, a loudmouth who has a penchant for being hyper-competitive, all the time. That’s why I serve them the A+ game. You understand what I’m getting at? You say you only want to wrestle women and that you want to be top contender for the Women’s Championship? Thanks for coming, your presence is all in line with my vision. Ever since I arrived in IWF, I’ve been working hard to not only rise to the top of this company but bring everyone in it along for the ride- kicking and screaming if I have to.”
The long drive that Emmy was on had taken a small toll on her energy level, bringing out a low, soft yawn as she stretched her arms and legs in the Jaguar that she had rented to joyride in for a while.
“I’ve watched so many arrive since I came. I don’t want to sound like I’m the epicenter of a women’s wrestling boom here, but it sure does feel that way. Now, it may not be to you, Khardiata, but when I get my hands on you, it most certainly will. I’m gonna, to put it in terms you can understand, fold your ass up like a Belgian Waffle and eat you up in front of a worldwide audience. You thought Alexandra and Atara hit hard? Wait until you feel this cross counter? You think our little masked princess was fast? I’ll run circles around your ass. I’m not one of these people complaining about my spot on the card or if I’m on the PreShow. All that other superficial shit you may have dealt with from some of the children on this roster is not what I’m about. I’m about going through any and all competition that stands in my way of reaching my goal: being a double champion while carrying this company on my sexy, immaculate and damn strong shoulders. So far, six times since I’ve arrived in this company people have looked up, wondering what the hell happened, how a woman this damn hot could be so strong. How a girl who was an accountant three years ago could just whoop their ass like that. Guess what, you get to be lucky number seven. So sit back, relax, and let me take you on a journey that honestly is going to end with you rethinking your life choices when it comes to wrestling. You’ve fucked with all the rest, now it’s time for you to be blessed by the best. See you soon, sweetheart. Oh…word of advice, you may wanna work on the forms of those push-ups I saw you doing a little bit. Was kinda mid…..”
And with that, Emmanuelle ended her video, clearly satisfied that the message she was looking to send would be heard loud and clear. While she was not underestimating her opponent in the slightest, her focus was definitely more on getting the attention of not just the IWF Women’s World Champion, but management and the other title holders as well. Emmy with a point to prove was probably the most dangerous version of Emmy that could exist.
That poor little cutie…she wasn’t going to have any idea what hit her. But for the time being, Emmy just took in the sunshine and the gentle breeze, hoping this Country Road would take her one step closer to the Championship she desired.
