The twins were two years old. The birthday wasn’t crazy, Vivienne just had a ton of toddler games and toys for the guests. A cake decorated in Dinosaurs. It had been pretty well attended. Mostly neighbors, kids from day care and a couple of Viv’s adult friends that still talked to her since joining The Murder. Astrid and Pan had come by with Hope. Rowan and Brooklyn had visited briefly. Now that the boys were napping and most everyone had left but her brother Chester, it was like she could actually breath for the first time all day.
“So..” Chester tied up a garbage bag filled with wrapping paper. “Ulf wasn’t here.”
“He wasn’t.” Viv agreed.
“Can I ask what happened?” Chester asked, sitting on the kitchen counter.
“It… It’s complicated.”
“I’m your brother. Just tell me.”
“You know between Xavier and the boys it had been a couple years… I had been single most of that time. And that summer I was kind of having a hot girl summer. I was 90% sure who the father was. I didn’t lie to Ulf about that. I was pretty sure…” Vivienne sighed, brushing her hair out of her face. “And he was willing to be the dad regardless. And it was fine for a while. But my anxiety that I was ruining his life by forcing him to raise someone else’s kids. He said it didn’t matter but I let my brain eat me alive. So I got them tested, to try and calm my mind. But He wasn’t the dad… and i broke his trust by getting it tested behind his back. Big breech of trust. Relationships don’t recover from that.”
“...You pulled a mom. Wow.”
“Shut up.”
“So what are you going to do? Are you going to track down the biological dad?”
“I don’t think so. I mean, some of the hookups… I didn’t you know, get a name and phone number.”
“You slut!” Chester teased, laughing.
“I could suplex you through the table, careful who you call a slut.”
“Oh no, everyone was right. Rowan has been a bad influence on you.” Chester melodramatically put a hand to his forehead and pretend fainted on the counter.
“Talking to Shea, huh?”
“She and I had a small conversation around the punch bowl.”
“Ugh.” Viv piled the last of the garbage by the back door.
“Can’t believe my perfect older sister is having baby daddy drama. Who would have thought?”
“You are still the family disappointment.”
“Oh, I know. But let me enjoy this just a little.”

The camera comes on to Vivienne in a white sweater with her Corgi Peanut on her lap.
“So right now I get something rare. I get to face someone doesn’t need me to tell her to get her shit together. You’ve faced Rowan. You beat Rowan. You are one of the fresh young talent that is gonna make a huge impact on this company.”
“You don’t need me to tell you about who I am, I have no doubt you’ve done the research. I know you have a deeper understanding of this business then perhaps a lot of the other people you faced gave you credit for. Doesn’t mean I’m going to go easy on you. You still have to earn your spot. None of this is ever going to be about propping women up without anything being gained. You have to earn it. You have my respect though, and that’s gotten pretty rare to share.”
“You actually sell this sport for what it is. Full contact. You don’t waste time doing thot pictures. You don’t waste time trying on specific gimmicks. You wear the mask and compete as a Luchador. And I respect that.”
“But no amount of flipping is going to save you from me. I know I have to really try with you. I know I have to fight like hell, and honey, I have a pretty intimate knowledge of hell.”
“Fighting tooth and claw to be taken seriously. To not be treated as a fan girl or a warm up piss break match is a struggle. I might not be that much older than you, god we might be the same age for all I know. But I know the way the women’s section of the sport slides back and forth means sometimes making a debut two months ago feels like a different time period then when someone comes up last week. So this is not me talking down. Or going ‘kids now a days’.” Vivi shrugged, “It’s refreshing. I am looking forward to fighting an actual wrestler.”
“You’ve never said shit about me and I don’t have any negative feelings about you. I know you have a master and you inherited your name and your mask from another. I think dedication to the craft like luchador is something that gets overshadowed like a lot of things in this business.”
“Dedication and someone you want to impress? Yeah, that’s a pretty good way to do things.”
“I used to be like that. I used to dedicate my every waking moment to getting better. I used to fight battles against women who said I wasn’t worth their time. I fought against monsters and got found wanting. You don’t have that issue. You’ve proven yourself worthy. But I’ve beaten Rowan too. If you want to make it to the next round and get the possible chance of calling yourself heiress to the throne? You are going to have to do a lot more than what you have been doing. I’m not a god or a monster. I’m just someone who doesn’t know how to quit and I no longer care about saving your feelings. I’m gonna break you. Not because it will teach you anything, but because I want a chance to get the belt more than you do.”
“No hard feelings. It’s not personal. It’s professional.”
