~*~*~They are not going to be happy. The masses, to see my face on their television screens again. At one point they all looked up to me as their beloved hero, at another, they looked down at me as though I were the shit stuck between the treds on their piece of shit peon shoes. It's funny. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but does it? These people have always been fickle and I have always held their emotions, their responses and their support or lack thereof in the palms of my hands. After all, I was, I am and I always will be - The Icon.~*~*~
~*~*~His name has been dropped on multiple occasions of late. Wrestlers mentioning that they would love one more match with him. Fans stating that he should come back for their own amusement. Friends saying that they have missed him and foes saying that they have never been happier to see someone hang up their boots. The industry changed when Lance Ryan walked away to focus on his family life. No doubt, things are fixing to change again as the lights turn red and he walks back into an industry that many people credit him with staying alive. But questions have abounded. If he came back, what kind of state would he be in? Will he be physically fit? Will he look all of his 37 years? Will he look to have the fire that he needs to compete at the level that he has made us all expect? The questions can now subside. He is here.~*~*~
After years of being away from the ring, that is where we find Lance. He is sitting in a darkened room and in the corner of a wrestling ring. He appears to be alone and he is staring down at the mat, dressed in his usual tattered blue jeans and red plaid sweater over a white tee. His hair is hanging much lower than the last time that we saw him. It hangs longer than shoulder length and half conceals his face. What can be seen though is the sly smile. The sly shit eating grin of a man that we have learned to know as The Icon.
Lance: It has been a long time since I have been allowed back in this ring. This ring that used to be the home of The Icon has long since passed along to some names that I know and alas, some names that I don't. The wrestling industry has always been something that has changed, rotated and passed people by. I have sat at home now for three years wondering why I walked away. Wondering if this business had passed me by. Wondering if in fact I had done the right thing when I decided once and for all to retire. I am here to tell you that it wasn't even my decision. I was forced into a life of fatherhood, forced into a married life and forced to turn my back on the only thing that I ever loved. Wrestling.
It's funny how life changes when your circumstances change. When I was forced into leaving wrestling I did so with the help of my friends. The guys that I fought with, the guys that I fought against and mainly guys that I had traveled the roads with for nearly a decade. The same people that told me that they would always be there for me and told me that we would keep up on life...turned their back on me and flourished when I was gone.
My own friends didn't really care where I went as long as I went away. They wanted my spot. With Lance Ryan out of the picture there was one more hole in the glass ceiling, one more spot to be grabbed, one more brass ring available to be garnered. This over the years has disgusted me and I am back for one reason, I am back because I want my spot back, Those selfish assholes turned their backs on me, one of them is right here in this federation holding the main title. Spike Kane, your name is one that I will hold under my breath until the day that I am able to right a lot of wrongs and once again prove to everyone that I am indeed the best that has ever laced these boots. I expect to have to climb a long ladder. I will need too prove myself once again to the powers that be, but with or without the title Spike, I plan to show you and prove to the world that you are nothing but a miscreant that saw an opportunity when you talked me into leaving this business.
Lance rises up from his seated position and pushes his hair back out of his eyes to show that he has a blank stare. He is steaming at the thoughts behind the feelings that he has just expressed. His cheeks are blowing out with anger and we can see that not only has he kept himself in shape, he is in perhaps the best shape of his life. He has more definition to him and he looks to be stronger than he was in his last run.
Lance: IWF you have been chosen as the launching pad for the second stage of my career. I was the biggest free agent on the market and I feel as though I have come where the competition is, where some familiar names are and where Spike Kane is because it is destiny.
I don't care who I have to go through, what matches I need participate in, what obstacles I need to clear out of my way. I will again rise to the top of this business and I will do so over the scattered remains of anyone that gets in my way. Let this serve as notice to you all...I am not content with what I have done in the past. At 37 years of age, I will prove to you all that this business is still mine for the taking and so too are any titles that I choose to go after.
The stars have aligned and I am here to claim everything that is still rightfully mine. If you think that I am washed up, come give me a shot. I will leave you in my wake.
Lance turns and steps out of the ring with a grin on his face. It seems that indeed, The Age of The Icon is once again upon us.
