{ It’s been a good long time since Sandy Rayne has been in front of a television camera and it still makes her nervous. She never liked having her entire life broadcast in front of the world, probably why she spent so much time in the indies. Yet here she was, about to sign a contract to join the newest big dog on the block, IWF. }
{ Rayne sat across a large oak desk from the man in charge himself, Simon de Montfort, she wasn’t dressed in anything to extravagant, that wasn’t her style, a black button up tucked into some tan pants, Simon on the other hand looked like he just walked out of a Brookes Brothers store. }
Simon: So my dear, are you ready?
Rayne: Yeah, I guess so.
Simon: You guess?
{ Rayne looked over the contract again, something just didn’t feel right. }
Rayne: To be honest, I’m not entirely comfortable with this. I mean, I don’t like making a big deal out of myself.
Simon: Ms Rayne, please, you are a very big deal. You were one of the top women wrestlers in ncw and here you could be the same.
Rayne: Yeah, that was when I was with Ayla but last I checked she’s injured.
{ Simon nods and smiles a knowing smile. }
Simon: Yes, that’s unfortunate, luckily there were other members of BWA.
{ Rayne raises an inquisitive eyebrow, she wasn’t there for the other versions of the group but both Allyson Gardner and Emma Danielson were tough bitches. }
Rayne: So you’re saying you’re bringing back Emma or Allyson?
Simon: I’m saying that the BWA will be wrestling my top female champions this coming Monday after you sign your name on the line.
{ Rayne didn’t trust him. }
Rayne: Look Montfort, I had all the politics I could take back in ncw so if this ends up being some sort of screw job..
{ She stands up and bends over across the table, Simon didn’t budge. }
Rayne: You will regret it.
Simon: My dear, I’m not in the business of making enemies, I’m in the business of making money.
{ Yeah, he’s a snake but on the other hand she saw an opportunity, possibly her last to really leave a mark on this business. She grabbed the pen and signed her name on the dotted line. }
Simon: Excellent, we’re glad to have you aboard my dear.
Rayne: Pleasures all mine, I’m sure.
Simon: Yes, quite….
{ Rayne didn’t wait for the details, something about the whole situation really made her stomach turn so she got out of there the first chance she got. It wasn’t until she reached the outside of the main head quarters that she felt like she could breath again… }
I’m not going to lie here, I’m not exactly sure what it is I’m supposed to say.
I didn’t ask for this, I didn’t ask to be brought in with all the glitz and glamour that I’m being afforded, to tell the truth after how I went out in NCW, I don’t think I deserve it, but I don’t spend the money here and I sure as hell don’t book the matches. Besides, who am I to argue with a chance to take on the two top dogs in IWF right now?
That’s right, no one
So it is what it is and I’ve been given a chance to take on not only two of the most impressive pair of young wrestlers in the world today but two of the most dominant. That’s a pretty big honor, especially once you consider that most women who get into this business don’t stay in it very long. Seriously, take a look around you and count how many of these women you’ve heard of before IWF, bet it’s less than a hand full.
Kathleen Conway.
Crystal Hilton.
Where’s the Roxi’s? The Shelly’s? The… Zelda’s?
Where’s all the names that seemingly made the NCW women’s division so great? Where are the names that we were to believe the whole damn foundation of the company was built on? Where the hell are they?
Gone and good goddamn riddance. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little bitter about the way things went for me over in NCW toward the end of my run, the way I was treated, booked and all that other fun stuff the IWC like’s to chat about. But I suppose that’s in the past and now I’ve got to focus on my new home and my renewed lease on life, my one last final chance to really make something of myself in this business.
Jessica, Ashley , I have not a single clue what Simon has planned for us or who my partner even is. Ayla is hurt, Emma and Allyson are no where to be found yet this man claims the BWA will be in the house Monday night, ready to take you two on.
I’m not about to promise anything about that.
What I will promise you is the fight of your damn lives. I’ve been doing this too long, worked too hard, bled and lost too damn much to let this opportunity go to waste. The last time I stood in the ring of a major wrestling company I threw my career away over what I felt was a bullshit call. I quit. Packed my bags and went home because I was sick and tired of the bullshit.
I don’t see that when I look at you two, I don’t see that same level of corruption.
Note the keyword, SAME.
I see the beginnings of something, the foundation being laid for an Empire. I was there when Zelda started out, the honest and humble little girl just looking to break out of her brother’s shadow. That honest and happy little girl quickly became an unruly tyrant, portrayed by the powers that be as a princess but in the end she was an egomaniac with an ego larger than even Montfort’s bank role. I see the beginnings of that here…
Jessica is humble now, fun loving now, but what happens when she starts believing the smoke that Simon blows up her ass? What happens when a year passes and somehow she’s still the champion? What happens when seemingly no one can stop her?
Seriously, I want to know…
I’m not saying it’s going to happen, I’m not saying you’re even close to the same type of person. Obviously there was something very important missing from Zelda’s personality, humility. I don’t see that missing in you but a wise man once said…
Power doesn’t corrupt, the fear of losing that power corrupts.
Think about that Jess as Simon hands you gifts and does you favors and books you in strange matches against women who haven’t wrestled on national television in well over a year. Think about that as limos pick you up and take you to exclusive autograph signings where maybe not everyone in attendance gets a chance.
Think about it.
You want the truth? I’m absolutely looking forward to this match. I haven’t been slacking off since I stepped away from NCW. I’ve been fighting harder and more often than ever. I’ve been wrestling every where against everyone and the chance to stand in that ring with you is going to be an absolute pleasure. You’ve more than proved yourself to be the best in the world today and I am absolutely making it my goal to leave you laying flat on your ass by the end of the night.
As for Ashley, you’ve had a hard road, you’ve had to listen to countless women tell you that where you come from hasn’t prepared for this business. I think we both know it doesn’t matter how long you wrestle or what inspired you to do so, all that matters is how damn good you are and that Ruby Championship says you’re pretty damn good.
I respect you kid, you’ve proved a lot of people wrong during your climb to the top and I’m sure your looking to keep the trend going this Monday night. Most people in the back are just waiting for you to trip and stumble, to slip back into the same old losing streak you stepped into IWF with. Their waiting for your failure and the trick is to not give it to them.
We all lose eventually but it’s how you lose that matters. If you fall down and cry and pound your fists against the mat like the current egomaniacal creating of our lord and savior Angel, then of course everyone is going to laugh and shit all over any success you may have had. But if you lose and get up from that loss, dust yourself off and come back even harder than before then no one will be laughing. They’ll be wondering how anyone was ever lucky enough to pin you in the first place.
Fact is, I don’t have anything bad to say about you ladies, the both of you are proven champions. All I have to say is I’m worried you’re turning a blind eye to what’s happening here.
There’s a rising tide amongst the locker room, the other women are starting to take notice of a certain trend. A trend I don’t feel the need to point out to you, it should be clear as day.
I want you both to take a step back and really think about the last few weeks, the strange booking and special surprises left by the owner of this company and ask yourselves, “Is this what I got into the business for?”
My answer is simple.
No.
I got into this business because I have a drive to compete, a need to push myself as far as my body will let me go. I’ve been all over the world and faced monsters and heroes like you’ve never seen but I’ve never come across competition like the two of you. I’ve never been faced with two women more ready to give it their all with a hand shake included. I got into this business for matches exactly like this, matches where I know I can unleash absolutely everything I am capable of and expect every last hit back.
The bitch is back ladies, now lets give them something to talk about.
