What is the IWF Roulette?
The Roulette is an annual over-the-top Battle Royale to determine the number one contender for the IWF Men’s World Championship where the IWF roster compete for the opportunity to headline Night of the Immortals.
The winner will earn a shot in one of the main events of this years pay-per-view which will be held over two weekends!
What are my chances?
I’m all about transparency – the odds may not necessarily be in your favour if you’re brand new. Results in IWF are determined on a cumulative basis by judging a character’s overall body of work – as you can imagine this means that established characters have a greater chance of winning the Roulette. The match is also an opportunity to reward longer term handlers for their work over the last few months and year, they will be default by the most likely to win.
I am sure you can appreciate that it’s very difficult to justify to existing members why somebody whose only just shown up is main eventing our biggest show of the year for the biggest prize in the men’s division off the back of a single appearance. It’s also very risky for myself to place that level of trust – bear in mind that this will involve almost two months of carefully planned build up – in a person who may or may not find they want to commit to being a long-term member.
I appreciate that may be disappointing, but I prefer to be completely honest with handlers rather than making promises which only lead to disappointment. I want you to join for the long term and I’d rather you didn’t join under false pretences.
So, why enter the Roulette?
If you were considering joining IWF it is a fantastic opportunity for potential handlers to get their characters established “on screen” in the fed. Unlike a traditional match you have very little to lose in kayfabe – after all, you won’t be pinned or submitted, merely thrown over a rope. It is very much low risk to your character’s credibility so it’s a good opportunity to get some roleplays up to establish your gimmick and prepare your character for future bookings.
It’s also a great way to debut a character and if you perform well in your roleplays there’s every chance you’ll be taking a strong performance in one of our biggest matches forward into building up your character going forward. Remember, it isn’t just about winning there’s opportunities to earn accolades within the match itself surrounding number of eliminations, length of survival, eliminating established names etc. All of these are great ways to get something on your list of achievements early for your character to brag about or to potentially set up feuds going forward.
It's also a good chance to impress and make a statement to stake a claim for involvement in the Heir to the Throne tournament which begins immediately after Night of the Immortals – potentially even a spot in the Joker in the Pack match at the big event itself! The short version is essentially that there’s lot more at stake than just the overall victory, you can still accomplish plenty from just being involved.
How do I enter?
Simply submit up to three roleplays of up to 2000 words (6000 overall word limit) on the Roulette 2024 sub-board or if you’d prefer to be a surprise entrant via DM to either myself or Jess Fowler (DJ).
The deadline for submission is 1AM EST Monday 25th March 2024 – a week before High Stakes. This is to allow staff the time it takes to put together a match of this size and for us to properly evaluate the roleplays submitted for it. That mean’s you’ve got two weeks to work on your submissions!
