London, England
“Well, we’ve found a new place to call home for the time being.”
The quiet but commanding Welsh accent echoed through the lavishly appointed office suite, accompanied by the sound of dress shoes across a marble floor. Leaning up against a massive dark wood desk, Edwyn Merrick slid a hand into the pocket of his black dress pants as he pressed his phone to his ear. “Yes, Miracle Galaxy Pro going on hiatus kind of threw a wrench in our plans, but luckily I was able to make some phone calls and get something else lined up in the meantime. I don’t want her sitting idle for too long.”
There was a pause as he listened to the person on the other end of the line, and he nodded. “Exactly. This new company seems like a good fit, and we’ll be able to continue on with our work.”
He paused as he heard the door to his office open, watching as Kasey stuck her head around the doorframe. “I’ll call you back in a bit.” Without waiting for an answer he disconnected the call and beamed a warm smile in Kasey’s direction. “Welcome, dear sister! I’m glad you could make it to my humble office.” He extended an arm to show off the (anything but) humble office in question.
Kasey took a few tentative steps into the room, sliding her hands into the pockets of her ripped-up jeans. “Yeah, well…I was kinda in the neighborhood. Besides, you said you wanted to talk?”
He moved away from the desk and gestured for her to follow him to a black leather couch along the wall, and while she sat down he busied himself at the sidebar. “Can I fix you a drink?”
“Just water is good, thanks.”
He stared a moment before shrugging his shoulders. “Suit yourself.” He walked back over and handed her a bottle of water as he sat down on the opposite end of the couch, cradling a crystal glass half-full of a brown liquor.
“So, what did you want to talk about?” Kasey said. “And why did it need to be in person?”
Eddy sipped from the glass, giving Kasey a measured look over the rim of it with his hazel-green eyes. “Well, I heard about Miracle Galaxy Pro going on a brief hiatus, and I just wanted to check in with you. See how you’re handling it.”
She gave him a puzzled look. “Why would you care?”
“I’m hurt that you would think so little of me. I am your brother, and I know how much wrestling means to you. You don’t think I’ve kept up with your career? I’ve watched how you flourished in that company, and now with its hiatus…well, I just don’t want to see you go adrift.”
“I still have Valkyrie Pro, you know. And I will be going back to MGP when it gets back up and running.”
He nodded, taking another sip of his drink. “Yes, that’s true. But I think I’ve found a place, even if it’s temporary.”
Now, her eyebrows furrowed together and a frown came across her face. “You did what?”
Eddy held up his hand placatingly, with a somewhat sheepish expression on his face. “Yes, yes, awfully presumptuous of me, I know. But I just wanted to help.” He took a tablet from the table and tapped it a few times before handing it over to her. “A place called Imperial Wrestling Federation. I’ve gone ahead and done all the research, put in all the phone calls on your behalf. They’ve sent over what I believe is an extremely lucrative contract. All you have to do is sign.”
Her brown eyes scanned across the tablet screen quickly. “I dunno, this all seems so sudden…”
“Oh, I don’t mean right now! Take a few days, read it over. But I’m sure you’ll be more than happy with what I negotiated.” He rose up from the couch as did Kasey, and they made their way towards the door. “Now, I hate to cut our little get-together short, but I’m neck-deep in some other negotiations at the moment. I’ll call you later and we’ll get together for dinner, alright?”
Kasey looked a little bewildered, but nodded her head. “Uh, sure.”
“Fabulous. Until then!”
He watched as she walked down the hallway towards the bank of elevators, and as she disappeared behind the closing doors the smile on his face turned somewhat sinister. “And now, the fun begins.”
—----
“Hello, IWF.”
The screen is dark at first, but soon a spotlight snaps on, illuminating two figures in the centre of the room. One is an impeccably-dressed man seated in a luxurious high-backed leather chair, his hazel-green eyes locked in a piercing stare towards the camera lens while the corner of his mouth is lifted in a devious smirk. The other is a woman, dressed in a white jumpsuit that was open down her torso to show a cropped white tank top layered underneath, long pink hair draped down to her waist and a white fox skull mask obscuring her identity. Her brown eyes stared through the holes of the mask as she leaned against the chair, arms folded across her chest.
“You may not recognize me, and that’s fine. But I can assure you that in due time, there’s not a person in that locker room or seated in the stands that won’t come to know me, or my dear sister here.” He glanced up towards the woman before gazing back down to the camera. “My name is Edwyn Merrick, and this is Kasey Vex.”
He raised one leg up to rest an ankle on his knee, lacing his fingers together on top of the raised leg. “Now, I’m sure there are a few of you that do recognize her name, but this is not the sweet, bubbly young woman you used to know. See, I’ve turned her into the perfect weapon. She isn’t here to cater to any whims, she isn’t here to make any friends. She is here for one reason, and one reason only.
Complete and utter domination.”
He lowered his leg and leaned forward in the chair, eyes blazing with ferocity as a snarl crept across his lips. “Men’s division, women’s division - it makes absolutely no difference. No one is safe from her. And it all begins this Tuesday night, when the first victim falls.”
As he sat back, Kasey stepped forward. She crouched down low, bringing her masked face close to the camera lens. Even in the dim lighting, her dark eyes shone as her head tilted to the side. “Amber Vogel. The first to fall. Offered up as sacrifice to sate the Violent Delight.” Her voice had a sing-song lilt to it, but there was something dark in the undertones. “Trained by the greats, but destined to never rise above. You will stand as the example.” While it couldn’t be seen, there was a sardonic smile across her face that crinkled the corners of her eyes. “Or rather, you will lie.”
She straightened up and returned to her position against the chair as Edwyn smirked towards the camera once again. “Until Tuesday.” He raised his hand, and with a snap of his fingers the spotlight cut out, plunging the scene into darkness.
