“Ya mom. I’m heading over to Jason’s house right now. We have a science project we have to study for.”
“I don’t know sweetie. You know I like more notice ahead of these things…”
“I know mom, but it was something that just sorta came up. We were able to check out the lab kit today so it was kind of a last minute thing.”
“I just feel nervous about you going to someone’s house I don’t know.”
“You do though. His little sister was on Suzy’s softball team last year. Jason Sorrenson?”
“Oh, yes. I remember the Sorenson’s. Well, are you sure his mom is OK with it?”
“Yes mom, she is. They are making hamburgers.”
“Well, alright. You thank them for letting you come over. Be a good guest now.”
“I know mom, I will.”
“I know you will. Have fun, baby. Just text me when you are ready to get picked up.”
“Thanks mom. Love you!”
Kurt ended the call and let out a breath. It wasn’t exactly a lie. They were able to check out the lab kit, and they would be studying. But that would be done in time to watch Odyssey. Jason had told him his grandpa had a match and he wanted to see. He hadn’t been able to get to the public library to try and watch online but he had been able to read some information on the internet about him at school.
He didn’t like not knowing about his grandpa. He knew there were problems with his mom. The problem at his grandma’s funeral was a big deal. But addiction was a big deal. That’s what they told him, anyway. It made someone act like they weren’t themselves. It looked like he was better. I mean he had to be if he was given a job to be on TV.
He walked back over to the group of friends that were heading over to Jason’s house.
“OK, my mom gave me the go ahead. I can come over.”
His friends let out a small cheer and he got a few high fives and pats on the back.
“That’s great. It’s gonna be a fun time. Wrestling is like the coolest thing in the world. I can’t believe she won’t let you watch it.”
“I think it’s family stuff. But I’m excited. We gotta actually get school work done though.”
“Sure, sure. We’ll get it done. You worry too much about school work.”
“Ya well, just think about how my mom would be if I didn’t have good grades.”
“Oooh. Ya. Alright. School work, and then wrestling.”

Logan is on a stationary bike, leaning forward with the hood of his sweatshirt pulled up over his head. He breathes evenly as his legs pump beneath him.
“So my first tag team match in the IWF. It’s certainly not the first time I’ve tagged with someone. Some might say that I made my name as a tag team wrestler. But this is my first time here and they got me matched up with another old hand in this fantastic sport. You can be damn sure I know who you are, Ozura. You and I, we’ve walked a similar path to get here. Couple of veterans of the circuit finally getting a chance to prove themselves.”
He shakes his head, legs still pumping away at the bike's pedals.
“We should be able to get along well enough. Two old hands that have been around the business. Get a certain adaptability when you’ve worked the job that long. Course we’ll be facing a team that are no strangers to each other. Sisters that have teamed together most of their life. That’s a partnership that you can’t underestimate. Hell, you team together that long? Been together that long? You start damn near reading your partner's mind. That’s gonna be hard to deal with when me and my partner haven’t been together before.”
Breath puffing out, he starts pumping his legs harder as he increases the pace.
“So we got experience as a team against experience of age. I’ve been doing this job longer than they’ve been walking. Ozura ain’t much different. So can our experience individually beat out their experience as a tag team? Only one way to find out. I just know that I don’t plan to make it easy for these two young ladies. They are faster, but we are stronger. The sort of mismatch that get the fans talking. Strengths and weaknesses matched up. I'm looking forward to it.”
He leans forward more, breath panting out as he pedals even faster on the exercise bite.
“The Machine keeps on churning. I got myself on a bit of a run now and I don’t intend to stop. Each match makes me feel alive and I am gonna keep pushing, keep chasing that feeling. And I’ll never stop. I’ll see you in the ring.”
The camera slowly fades out as his legs pump even harder at the bike, his feet a blur of motion.
“I don’t know sweetie. You know I like more notice ahead of these things…”
