Nat’s mood hadn’t improved since Odyssey and given the new environment and the cramped living conditions she’d have to suck it up, Pax and TDH had joined in with the big suite but it was leaving fewer bed spaces.
She was however spending a little more time alone, more so she could let he others focus on their tournament progress and so she wasn’t being so glum around them, she was tempted to check her phone but right now all the parts of her life that mattered were in the house behind her and in an arena in a few days time.
She picked up the teacup and sipped, eyes closing as she sat on the wall in the garden. Her mind eye watching Allen Get pinned as Charlie managed to hold her back, somehow the was her fault it had happened a little tiny voice that sounded n awful lot like her moth crept into the back of her head and told her that this was her life now, Almost, not quite a forever line of disappointment that ends in another career being left at the way side.

Yeah, fuck that noise.
But what could she do? First it was time that was the enemy, this time Allen had a bad night.
Fuck that’s depressing.
Her eyes looked inside to the moving forms focusing a second on Rini as she passed through, ear to a phone as she spoke with Masao, she knew it was Masao because of the smile on her face , even knowing the losses were eating at her as much as they’d eaten at herself there she was smiling.
She looked down at her cup, sighing a bit as she felt the heat touch at her cheeks, She couldn’t really afford to get distracted by this thinking right now work called, the pressures of the Heiress called.

But, she looked back up anyway, catching Rini’s eye with a smile as they caught each other and that blush felt like a neon light as she sipped the tea in her hands.
Who wouldn’t be drawn to that radiant friendly light?
Who wouldn’t be drawn to that radiant friendly light?
The light that fel so so warm and special, sure Rini was that way with everyone but man...
Stop.
Close your eyes count to 10, think of throwing yourself out the plane...That view of the ground below as the air rushes past you, few moments of absolute peace before you pull the cord.
Nope, her heart was still beating a million times a minute.
She kept staring at her rapidly retreating tea like it held some answer , some clue some mystical type of knowledge to shake her back into focus, was this why things weren’t going well?
Don’t be Silly Nat, if that was the case you wouldn’t be sleeping next to her.
Her thoughts drifted a little bit about that and she felt another blush rise.
“Shit.”
Yeah, great word usage there Nat, c’mon now add a noun and a few words and you can speak a sentence maybe.

Right now all Nat could see was a 1 on the score sheet, so finishing off her tea she’d stand up, moving in to breeze past anyone to wash her cup up and head for the little indoor gym at the house.
Destiny wasn’t waiting, she had to catch it.
Destiny wasn’t waiting, she had to catch it.
Nat’s face comes into sharp focus looking, maybe a little annoyed but dressed in a traditional yukata, in a nice soft red her hair tied up and making tea as she speaks.
The room she’s in looks like any other Dojo, plain floor, and screen painting wall.

“I spent a few years in Japan, and I’ve only ever been a spectator in Tokyo. I know the late state is coming with one more team on the horizon we have to teams to beat and then it’s the solo drive, this has been fun... A learning experience for sure and nothing for certain.”
She rolls her eyes and looks into the camera.
“Time to double down, no foot off the accelerator Abigail, the last time we met was in the maiden, the match was over and I know for a fact we shared a glance and I know we both saw the hunger in each other eyes, a shared respect a bond. Knowin’ we’d be facin’ each other more formally.
Nat keeps making the tea, almost formally letting it brew as she pours and waits.
“We’re from different worlds Abi, You’ve been and seen more than I care t’ admit and you’ve had to make you choices, whatever I can’t judge, what I can say is I still trust my partner, I’m not walking with lions.”
She rubs at an eye and keeps preparing the tea, looking at the liquid as it sits in the cup.
“Either way this match sis a must win for us both isn’t it? It’s a race between Viv and Charlie about who gets top dog, so it’s no long about who’d up it’s about what’s left, we could scrap another draw too but I don’t think either of us, tag team partner included really wants that.”
She took a long, long sip and sighed.
She took a long, long sip and sighed.
“But I know we’ve been waitin’ for this Hell I’ve been waiting for this, I ‘m not gonna say you are a hero, but your face has been on my screen, no matter the name for a while, you’re still a living legend, a woman who could throw me around like a rag doll if I’m not careful so I’m gonna have to use every ounce of my wit and speed to get atcha.”
She sways a bit and smiles, a leg sort of witching at the knee as her excitement grows and her eyes sparkle.
“We’re gonna be doing it in sumo hall, yo!”

“We’re gonna be doing it in sumo hall, yo!”
She reaches down to take a long, slow sip, calming herself down as she closed her eyes and decides to explain.
“Maybe the business hasn’t worn me down enough, maybe it’s a case of endless optimism but Japan’s like a second home to me, but it’s a place I never fully explored, you can only go so far in a few years especially when you’re knotting down to learn your craft, so much has happened since then, and then I enter this crazy world, barely a year in an I’m in three of the biggest events in the company.”
She nods, blowing a long breath and leaning back on her hands almost shattering the illusion of serenity she’s putting forwards.
“Maybe I’m blowing my own horn, but I don’t have the Kane name to lean on, or even the Spencer one I don’t have a living walking hall of fame in my corner and my life at any given time. Hell last legend I met turned on me and to go hang out with her bestest, brightest friend. What am I other than the path I carve out in front of me huh?”
There was another large huff of contemplation, as her mismatched eyes focus once more.

“I don’t have a bad thing to say about you Abigail, Other than I wanted this since the Maiden, I wanted to face you and measure against you since those passing moments when I put your ass through plexiglass, you said this is a marathon you’ve said this is all about taking your time, one match at a time? Babe we’re both at the back, we both need this win to put ourselves in a better spot for the next part, or is that the play? Slink under the surface and run the losers bracket for the reset on grand finals?”
She considers that with a small chuckle.
“Pretty good strategy, but If that’s the case let me help you along th’ way to maybe meetcha again on the way up, so far the future is still looking bright Abigail, doesn’t matter what you sat about me, I will keep doing what I do and I’m planning to head up to the end of the Heiress, one way or another.”

She leant forwards once more rolling her shoulders to resettle herself and take a long breath eyes closing again.
“I trust Allen to handle Rost, Jut like you trust Rost to handle Allen, despite his most recent loss Allen Chaney is a man who comes back form the odds and gives as good as he gets, I’m sure he’s as miffed about the whole thing as I am. But I trust him...I gotta keep up to that.”
She smiles a little more and straightens.
“So, this coming Odyssey? Under the bright lights of the Ryōgoku Kokugikan? We dance!”

She flashes the camera a little wink her smile full of confidence again.
“Try to keep up.”
Fade out.
