Mimi had tried to bite her tongue. She had tried not to make a big deal with how familiar Dean had been with Warren during the trial. She had been quiet as best as she could but as they were sitting in first class it was hard not to keep replaying the way Dean kept looking at Warren.
“Hey, baby, can I ask something?”
“Sure, what is it, Sweetness?”
“We are sure Dean didn’t misunderstand why we were there, right?”
“What do you mean?”
Mimi tried to think of the best way to say it without sounding like a jealous harpy, “I just… I didn’t like the way he was looking at you I guess. God, that sounds terrible. I know he’s going through a rough time. Not just the trial but the stuff at work. And the stuff at work is his own fault, no one is denying that. I know he needed support for this trial. The tabloids and the dirt sheets are ripping him apart for it. But… he kept looking at you like you were the anchor keeping him from drowning.”
“In a lot of ways I am, or I mean I was,” Warren sighed deeply. “I mean I have been since Max died five years ago. Those kinds of feelings don’t just disappear overnight Mimi, it’s a process for both of us. It’s going to take time for him to adjust to life without me and for me to adjust to a life without him, honestly.” Warren took Mimi’s hand in both of his own and held her gaze as he spoke soft and clear. “You should know though, I didn’t go to the trial just for Dean. I went there for myself. I needed closure. I needed to see that scumbag rapist pay. He raped Dean and then lied to my face about how it was consensual. I needed to see justice done.” Warren smiled. “And now I have, and he’s going to rot in prison for the rest of his pathetic life, whilst the rest of us move on with our lives. Just as I was the anchor for Dean one last time, you were the anchor for me afterwards, Mimi and I’ll never forget that.”
Mimi smiled at him kindly, squeezing his hands, “I’ll anchor you anytime you need it sugar. I’m in this for the long haul.”
“Thank you for not being jealous or misunderstanding,” Warren said. “Thank you for actually listening to me in a way Dean never did. The attack on Viv was just the catalyst for a long list of incompatibility issues we were both too afraid to face, until Dean made the choice easy for me by crossing the one boundary I asked him not to. We could never communicate properly and so this was always going to end badly, the only questions were when and how, honestly.”
Mimi nodded, she was better at masking her jealousy. She wasn’t going to fumble a good man like an idiot. “Of course baby. Mutual respect and trust is the key to success in relationships.”
“Thank you again for understanding,” Warren said. “I really appreciate it.”
“I’ll be honest and admit I do get jealous sometimes. But I’m trying to be better.”
“Of anybody in particular, or just in general?” Warren asked. “Because if this is gonna work we’re gonna have to start trusting each other. Dean and I struggled with that a lot throughout our relationship.”
Mimi knew it was a hot topic issue for Warren so she had to be careful how she answered, she liked him too much to screw this up. “I do trust you. Promise. I know you’re a catch and I worry other people will see it too. It’s my own thing. Promise it won’t affect our relationship.”
“Thank God,” Warren kissed her softly. “I’m so glad to hear that, honey. Thank you.”
“Welcome.”
The camera opens to Mimi Simpson standing in a dimly lit room, the soft glow of a spotlight casting shadows across her face. She’s dressed in her signature ring gear, a mix of confidence and grit radiating off her.
"You know, I’ve been in this business long enough to know that opportunities don’t just come knocking at your door. You gotta kick that door down and take what's yours. And this number one contenders match? It’s my shot to grab that Gladiatorix belt and show the entire world exactly what I'm made of."
Mimi takes a step forward, her gaze intensifying as she looks into the camera.
"Amber Vogel... I've watched you. You're good, no doubt about it. But you're not me. You think you’ve got what it takes to stand in my way? Nah, sweetheart. See, when you step into that ring with me, it’s not just another match. It’s a battle, a test of endurance, of will, of heart. And while you might have a few tricks up your sleeve, I’ve got something you can’t teach—fight."
Mimi taps her chest, emphasizing her words.
"I’ve fought my way from the bottom. I’ve been knocked down, kicked aside, told I wouldn’t make it. But here I am, standing tall, hungrier than ever, because this is my moment. That Gladiatorix belt? It's got my name written all over it, and I’ll be damned if I let anyone, including you, Amber, stop me from taking what’s mine."
She takes a breath, her voice steady but filled with determination.
"So, Amber, when we meet in that ring, don’t expect a fairytale ending for yourself. This is gonna be a war. And at the end of the night, when the dust settles, there’s only gonna be one woman standing tall with her hand raised, looking ahead to that Gladiatorix title. Spoiler alert, Amber: it’s gonna be me."
Mimi smirks as the camera zooms in on her confident expression.
"Get ready, because I’m not just coming to wrestle, I’m coming to win."
The camera fades out as Mimi turns her back, walking away with confidence.
