Act 1: Leaving on a Jet Plane
“I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it.”
Rosalia de Castro
The scene opens on the McKale Center in Tuscon Arizona. The show had just ended, and the crowds had started to disappear from the arena. Superstars and Diamonds had started to leave for the night, only to be stopped by screaming fans that waited at the back door for them for autographs, and pictures. The stars above the city sparkled against the midnight blue sky, as the lights burned brightly in the night. The camera goes to the backstage area where we see the stage hands moving around getting everything ready for the move to Phoenix for the next show. The camera moves down the hall way and stops when it comes across a door that is cracked open. Avery sits relaxing after her match against Desiree and Ayla. It had gone just like she had planned, and she had another win under her, and the Ladies of the Rose had yet to lose a tag team match. Avery sighs leaning against the lockers behind her, letting it all sink it. She had a rough start within the IWF but things looked like they were starting to finally turn around. The door suddenly gets kicked in, and Avery is on her feet, ready for a fight, but instead of an intruder there stood Dick Chambers. He looks at her from under the hat he wore and Avery lets out a sigh of relief.
Avery: Dick! What in the hell are you doing here?
Dick: I came to get you for an a little bit of fun... And we need to go now.
Avery: Wait... What?
Dick: Listen kid if you want in, then we got to go like now.
Avery: I can't. I mean I have a job now, and...
Dick: Really? You don't miss the excitement of it all?
Avery sighs, and leans against the door frame and looks around. She did miss the excitement and the thrill that she got when she was driving through danger, and trying to out run terrorists.
Avery: I do, but I can't just up and leave.
Dick: Actually you can. Doc bought your contract out this morning.
Avery: He did what?
Dick: Yeah he bought out the contract and you are free to go.
Avery: Why did he do that?
Dick: We need you kid. Now if you're in, we have to go. The plane is leaving in like 20 minutes, and they'll leave without us if we don't go.
Avery looks at him with her green eyes sparkling. Her heart was racing a little bit, and knew that it would be worth it if she did go.
Avery: Right... Let me get packed then, and we'll get going.
Dick: Good choice kid.
Avery finishes packing up her stuff, and they start down the hall, only to run into Shaun and Marty.
Shaun: Look who it is...
Marty: It's Dick... But the question is what is he doing here?
Shaun: Aye... And where are you going?
Avery: I'm leaving.
Marty: What? What about the IWF?
Avery: Doctor Lander bought out my contract this morning, and I'm going on some journey.
Shaun: What? But...
Avery: No buts. Just tell my father that I'll be all right, and I'll call him when I can.
Marty: He's going to kill you when he finds out.
Avery: Never stopped me before. I'll see ya around boys.
She hugs them, and grabs her bags once again, before they start down the hall again.
Dick: So are you ready to go?
Avery: I am... But I better call my tag partner and let her know that I'm leaving... Shame really. We haven't been beaten yet.
Dick: That was one hell of a match tonight. You did good kid.
Avery: Thanks. That means a lot. It's just a shame that I didn't really get a start here. In a few more months who knows where I could have been.
Dick: You would have been miserable. You know you would miss traveling the world, and seeing what kind of trouble you can get into.
Avery: You know you're right. I have missed it.
Dick just smiles as they reach the car, and soon take off toward the airport. They soon arrive and head off toward a private airfield where the large jet sat. It sat idling and was ready to go. The car stops just a few feet away from the tarmac and Avery and Dick get out, heading toward the plane, as Teddy comes down to meet them.
Teddy: About time you got here. We're ready to go...
Avery: Sorry we're late.
Dick: Avery, why don't you go and take over from Helen?
Avery: Why is she sober?
Teddy: I think so. You know she can't fly when she is.
Avery: Right... You know where to find me if you need me.
Avery heads off to the cockpit, and taps the young woman that sat in front of the controls. Helen sighs, and gets up as Avery takes her place behind the controls, and adjusts the seat, leaning back in the seat, and starts to dial the cell phone she had in her hands. It goes into a voice mail, and she sighs. She had hoped to talk to Jenny before she had left but hopefully she would understand.
Jenny: Hello this is Jenny. Sorry I missed your call. Leave your name, number, and message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Avery: Hey Jenny it's me. Listen I'm afraid I won't be able to be your tag team partner any more. I'm leaving tonight for... Well I'm not sure where I'm going but I won't be back for a while... I want to say good luck in whatever you do. I'll be watching when I can. Well this is it... Goodbye Jenny, and thank you.
With that Avery hangs up the phone, and finishes getting everything ready, before they take off. Dick comes into the cockpit and stands behind Avery, as she closes the door, and they start down the runway.
Avery: So where are we going?
Dick: Did you ever hear of King Solomon?
Avery smiles to herself, as they lift off into the air, and head off into the night, as the scene fades to black.
