Hello again friend.
It’s I, James William Cross, I believe it’s time to pick up where I left off in our last read. I explained the history of our world, the nature of Alphas. Now, it’s time to introduce you to our characters...Every story needs a hero, so let me introduce you to The Phoenix. My father, Xavier Cross.
Xavier Cross, now a man entering the 33rd year of his life, imbued with the special abilities of the new alpha race, Xavier has the ability to manipulate smoke and embers, his entire body can manipulate this bit of energy, able to take any form of carbon monoxide, or fire, he can temporary increase his strength, or heal his body faster. This makes daddy a close range fighter, able to take high amounts of damage due to the lack of real organic matter. Being named the Phoenix isn’t just for his flashy smokescreen, Daddy has a secret.
But it’s one thing for an Alpha to have powers, it is another to be able to control them, to become the Hero...or villain they so choose to be. When my father was a young hero, he was a bit reckless, wanting to be more of a show off than an actual fighter, this caused more trouble than what it was worth. In order to become a government asset he was assigned to a veteran hero for training. Adam Knite, The Raptor.
Now Raptor is a unique Alpha, his only birth power was a superhuman healing rate, and being born to a family of military big wigs, Adam was taken to scientific labs, and experimented, and trained for most of his life. To become a super soldier, his family sold him out. That was until a man offered him freedom, that man will come into our story soon enough.
Adam would take the offer, and leave his slavery life behind him. Adam would become the head of security at Imperial City, training young heroes to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves. That was until his past called him back.
That past was his baby sister, Zelda. Zelda was a unique Alpha, with a physical mutation, which was giant feathered wings that protruded from her back. Her true power didn’t manifest until later, mind manipulation, but only through touch, she was able to gain full control over weak minded individuals, those with a stronger mental constitution could fight it off, though with over periods of long time of exposure, she would be able to control anyone or thing. She was a passive young girl, but the military background that once trapped Adam, had now instarned her within their clutches.
Military forces were always looking for a way to make their ‘norm’ soldiers have some form of edge against Alpha forces, always looking for a way to gain advantage in the ongoing power struggle. Zelda was a link to make their forces into mindless, fearless creatures. Codenamed Project Ramiel, the biblical angelic figure of hope, Zelda was forced into solitude, extorted daily to find a new way to control the world.
This information was kept secret from Adam for a long time, in this time, he would gain his first true apprentice, a man to trained solely to become the next Imperial Hero, the strongest, and greatest of good guys in Imperial City. A title that would be defended against Heroes and Villains alike. This apprentice was The Phoenix, Xavier Cross.
Their relationship was interesting to say the least. Adam could see the potential in Cross, but the two different personalities clashed. It seemed daily the two men were at each other’s throats, Cross had a short fuse, and Adam didn’t care if he pissed the kid off, he was going to train him the right way, his way.
Which would lead the two men to Antarctica.
Adam’s final test for Xavier would take the two men to the arctic tundra, where Cross would compete in a series of challenges to learn the full extent of his Smoke/Ember abilities. This is where Xavier would find out thin air, below freezing temperatures messed with his powers, a weakness to them if you will.
Now the unusual place for this test to occur, outside of Imperial City, there was a reason Adam chose this spot. It was the spot the Global Military Coalition was hiding Zelda, while Xavier was testing himself, and destroying a few key security installations he thought were training modules, as well as gardening the attention of the local mercenary force led by one, Alex Jones.
This was the first, but not the last time these two would meet.
Cross stood there, huffing and puffing in the cold air, his powers greatly weakened, but the metal structures were no match for him. That was until a flash of speed burst by him, and a pain erupted in his ribs, as he stumbled to the left, crumbling to the ground. Snow was kicked up as the figure of a man appeared in front of him.
Alex Jones, a blur of a man, with superspeed. More so, he was ruthless as long as the price was right, a common mercenary with a not so common ability, his feet moved him at speeds that rivaled even the fastest of jets. But it wasn’t just his legs, but his entire body can be moved at various incredible speeds.
Now confronted with his first real challenge, Cross picked himself up, spitting a bit of blood out. Cracking his knuckles, Jones motioned for the young hero to bring it, which Xavier was very obliged to do. Charging forward, Jones watched patiently, with his superspeed he would react at the last moment, but what he wasn’t aware of was the super speed he had used earlier had heated up the surrounding area even a few degrees, which allowed Cross’s powers to move faster, more fluidly. Swinging at Jones, Cross smirked, as his body turned to ash and scattered.
Jones, who planned to use his speed to dodge, was now confused, looking about, he never felt the hand around his throat, jerking him backwards onto a knee. Quickly rebounding from the onslaught, Jones spun his body around, breaking Xavier’s hold. Jones spun backwards, before laughing a bit, almost enjoying himself.
That was until an explosion rocked the area, from a compound a few yards out, the sounds of a helicopter cut through the air, retreating from the smoke that rose from the compound. Jones shook his head, and spoke to Xavier.
“We’ll have to continue this some other time, it seems my paycheck is deciding to leave…”
And with the same blur he arrived in, Jones was gone. Cross didn’t have time to think about what just happened, as his communicated was ringing. It was Adam.
“I don’t have time to explain...Follow the smoke. I need your help...now.”

Today, I find out, that I will be entering the Roulette as the 6th position.
The whole mathematical spiel, Six is a perfect number, pretty cool right? I won’t bore you with the deets of it all, because most of you are too stupid to understand, yeah, I’m looking at you Tank. But six mean a lot of things, I’m not first, nor am I last, though I’m closer to the beginning, which makes the end even further away. Excuse me if I’m rambling, I’m more trying to work this whole idea out loud, you know what you can do if this is too much for you.
So let’s do the math.
5 men will enter the roulette before me. At that point, I could walk into a 1 on 1, or the more extreme 5 on me. Now we have six people in the ring, at the most, which leaves 24 more people coming down to take my spot.
More so, 29 other men are vying for the same thing, a taste of the chance to gain immortality.
So I’m sitting here, just beating my head against the wall, until it finally hit me. Maybe it was a concussion, maybe not.
I’m now 2-0 in IWF since my return.
Todd Williams, an accomplished NCW-er, despite what Jimmy Zane says. Cough-History proves my point-Cough.
Mason St. Croix. One of my personal favorite competitors, and a former Heavyweight champion.
I’ve bested Cyrus Daniels, and Xander. I damn near ran rough shot on IWF on my first go-round. So I just can’t help but feel confident going into this roulette.
Whether it’s First. Sixth. Sixteenth. Thirtieth. It doesn’t matter when I come into the match, because as soon as I hit that ring. It’s over.
For you.
You.
and Especially you.
Before I forget, this needs to be addressed. Spike Kane doing his whole Oprah thing, I appreciate the fact we obviously got bad blood son, but if you got a question about what I'm trying to say out here, I'd be glad to take a step on set, and tell you a thing or two.
Maybe see if you're willing to step to me without the little rascals.

This is my time. This is first big step forward, to claim my first ever World Championship.
I’ve done this for so long, I’ve had my shots, and missed, I’ve come so close, and sometimes I’ve choked, but this. 2014 is the Year of Xavier Cross, and the destruction of IWF.
Mark my words.
Take it to the bank.
Watch out for Mystery Entrant Hashtag 2, he's a dick.
