I’ve only had two jobs in my life. The first was right out of high school. I worked at a grocery store. I was the guy who bagged your groceries. I was the guy who was busting his ass outside getting you a cart to load everything in. For my first job I didn’t mind it. It was never going to be a career but at the time I was content. That is until I got the chance to train as a professional wrestler.
As a kid I was a huge fan, still am. Every day I wake up and can do this is like living a dream. I have dabbled in other things but wrestling is my career. I know that’s not the case for everyone. There are people who turned to wrestling after failed choices or injuries. There are also people who do this on top of other ventures. I’m not faulting them for that. We all have the right to choose what we want to do. Once the bell rings we are all wrestlers, no matter where we came from.
The only reason I bring that up is because on more than once in my life people have called me boring. Just because I don’t have a whole lot going on outside of the ring, doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it. You’re never going to see me involved in any outlandish activities. When it comes to what I do outside of the ring, I’m not trying to impress anyone. I prefer to impress once the bell sounds inside the ring. So if you look at me and say “Muru, you’re life is boring”. Just know this. Wrestling is all the excitement I need.
March 15th, 2014 AFTERNOON
Where would you expect to find a professional wrestler in one of the best companies on the planet on a Saturday afternoon? Unless you guessed his or hers local movie theater, then you would be wrong. That’s where Muru likes to spend his Saturdays. Some call it lame, but for him it’s a great way to check out for a few hours. As he is leaving the theater he sees the head of security there. An “older” than him black man in a black suit with red tie. He doesn’t know the man by name but he sees him every week. If he knows who Muru is he has never let on.
Muru: How’s it going man?
Head of Security: Alright, flying solo today?
He is referring to Muru being their without his longtime friend John
Muru: Yeah, my buddy had other plans. I had to get a movie in though. I’m trying to reach one hundred for the year.
Head of Security: How’s that going?
Muru: Alright, today was number eighteen so I have a ways to go.
Head of Security: What’d you see?
Muru: Need for Speed. I wasn’t planning on it, but when you have the goal I do, you can’t be picky. I liked it though. Sure, it wasn’t great, but it wasn’t the Fast and Furious rip off I thought it would be.
Head of Security: Haven’t seen it yet. I took my kids to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman though.
Muru: Saw it!
With that bit of a boast the two men are interrupted by Muru’s phone vibrating in his jacket. Remember to always silence you phone, and no talking or texting at the theater. Don’t be THAT person.
Muru: I have to take this.
Head of Security: Alright, see you next weekend?
Muru: You know it!
Muru answers the phone as he walks away.
Muru: Hey…a movie…alright I will be there soon.
He hangs up the phone but not before seeing a half dozen missed calls.
Muru: So impatient.
Ryan is really getting on my case about this Roulette match today. After a brutal workout this morning, one that was twice as long as usual. I just wanted to relax. In my down time I like to check out the new releases at the theater. He thinks my time would have been better spent watching film on my opponents in the Roulette match. When I told him about how impossible that would be, he still said I should focus on the top contenders. Again, I asked how I should distinguish that. His answer, if they have a belt, focus on them. That was amazing advice…obviously.
It doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a point. If you are champion if means that you do know how to win. What you have to remember is that many if not all the titles will be on the line at High Stakes. That means a lot of wrestlers will be pulling double duty. It doesn’t matter what shape you are in, competing more than once a night is no easy task. I’m sure none of them would complain about having a chance to become Imperial champion. Everyone should have a shot. Then there are the two men who already have a shot, Mike Lazlo and Davey Ortega. By the time the Roulette match starts they would have had their chance to be Imperial champion, either Ortega by retaining or Lazlo by winning. I don’t really see a need for them to get another chance, but that’s just one mains opinion.
The other three singles champions will be narrowed down to two by the time the match happens. KBL falls under the category mentioned earlier or a man who isn’t only a wrestler. He basically leaves his day job behind for bloodshed and to vent anger. There are plenty of ways to do that outside of a wrestling ring. I’m seen those sort of fights when I’ve dared to walk the streets of Detroit at night. Yet, he is champion and deserves the respect that comes with it. I won’t under estimate him in this match. I just want to say one thing. Wrestling is only a part of his life. At this moment, wrestling is my life.
I know very little about Sephiroth du Lac. One thing I do know is that he sure loves blowing up Twitter. I think he just likes to hear himself talk. It makes sense because he exudes arrogance. How else can one call himself a legend but never been a world champion? I would never make that claim. I’m not sure how the Imperial title ranks in the world, but if du Lac wins the Roulette match and goes on to win it I guess he will have earned the right to be arrogant.
The last singles champion is Bob Pooler, and it’s almost like looking in a mirror. Well, maybe not quite. But I do understand what it’s like to want to prove you can still do it. He is already the Cruiserweight champion. That’s an accolade that at this point in my career I would be glad to have. But I know it’s not enough to satisfy because I wouldn’t be satisfied. Happy isn’t the same this as satisfaction. It might not mean much but I hope you walk out of High Stakes as Invictus champion, because I will do my best to make sure you won’t have a chance at the Imperial title.
