"The Devil, can sometimes
do a very gentlemanly thing."
-Robert Louis Stevenson-
There must always be a sacrifice
to obtain what you desire in magick.
For something acquired something must be given.
It is the rule of three.
'Whatever you do comes three
by three on you.'
Do good and you are rewarded.
Do bad...
well then he comes to call.
Then you have to pay.
I know.
I know because I
have paid my own price.
And now another pays yours.
A life for a life.
It is the code of our kind.
Yours, my love...
... and mine.
*Seph stared at the remains of the rope that slowly swayed under the single humming lightbulb illuminating the dank dark cellar. The rope was frayed but looked to have torn more than been cut. It would take a tremendous amount of force to tear it Seph knew. It was admirable. She had been on there for days unfed. It had to take every ounce of strength she could muster to tear it. But why? Seph turned to Abel a look of concern on his face as the hulking figure slowly stepped down the cellar steps.*
Seph: How is the baby? Is she alright?
*Abel nodded as he stepped upon the cool dirt covered floor. Seph sighed in relief. But it didn't explain anything. Maria wouldn't have fled without Isabella. Something must have taken her or scared her so bad she would have left. Either situation had Seph worried. He turned to the door, the ancient cracked wood untethered and unbound. For years he had watched over it. Afraid. Unsure of the danger of the darkness within. Slowly he stepped toward it only to be drawn back by a large hand. Seph looked at Abel who just shook his head as if to say "no". Slowly Seph brought his hand to his chest and placed it on Abel's.*
Seph: It's alright, Abel.
*Slowly Seph pulled the massive monster's hand away as with purpose he walked to the door. He wasn't sure what would happen or even if she was there but something... something told him that this door held secrets to horrible to unleash. Slowly he opened the door and stepped inside into the darkness...*

You must be brave.
You must be.
I know how he is.
He will lie to you.
He will make empty promises.
He will try to deceive you.
You must be on guard.
For you do not battle
a man of flesh and blood now.
You battle a principality.
You battle the spirit of pride itself.
He is not a man.
He is a force.
He is sin.
He is... a phenomena.
*... and into the light of a grey world. Seph stepped onto the soft ground of an old ancient dirt road as he looked about in awe of what he found. Slowly as his eyes adjusted he saw that he was standing at a crossroads as a whirling grey mist slowly rose around him. A man in black sits under an old wooden sign where a crow caws in ill omen. Slowly Seph approaches observing the odd man as he busies himself carving an old oaken box reminiscent of an old west coffin. Slowly the man looks up letting his big brim hat rise to reveal a pale face with a neatly trimmed goatee, a tear tattoo under his eye. His arms lined with tattoos and his hair trimmed into a short trim with a mohawk. Seph gasped... he knew this man... this being. he knew him and his blood ran cold.*

Man in Black: Hello, Boy.
He hates what I have done.
I can feel his anger even in this
horrid heartless spirit.
He fooled me.
He made me this way.
To watch over you forever.
Now I've played my hand.
I've shown my cards.
And now he HAS to help you.
Tread carefully, love.
I've roused the serpent from his nest.
It's up to you to not be bitten.
Seph: YOU?! but I...
Man in Black: Left me for dead? You can't kill a dead man, boy. You should know that.
*The man stops working, cracking his knuckles a bit the fingerless gloves merely adding to the intimidation of his long black leather jacket.*
Seph: What do you want with me? Where is my wife?
Man in Black: What I want isn't the point. What you want is. Your the one who summoned me. So, what do you want, Du Lac?
Seph: Summoned you?! I did no such thing! Why would I summon...
*Seph stopped short. Something was amiss. Why would he be here if... could it be?*
Seph: No...
Man in Black: Listen, I don't give a damn if you did or not. Now, the deal has been made. So, what do you want?
Seph: Well, I... No, I don't want anything from you. You bring nothing but pain and misery wherever you go.
*Seph turned heading back the way he came as the Man in Black simply looked up with an evil grin.*
Man in Black: Fine, walk away. I knew you didn't care about her.
*Seph stopped dead in his tracks the words like the call of a siren as he turned around his eyes locked on the demonic being that sat before him.*
Man in Black: Oh yeah, I know what you want, boy. You want to run the yard. You want to be the best but most of all you want her back. I can help you and I will.
He offers you something we both want.
Freedom.
Our happily ever after.
The princess trapped in her prison.
The brave knight willing to risk everything.
It's like a fairy tale.
Like the ones he read to me
when he tucked me in.
His daughter.
Your beloved.
Free me, Sephiroth.
Free us both.
Seph: Why would you help me?
Man in Black: Because I have to. Because whoever sent that soul kicking and screaming to me wants you to win.
Seph: Rayne...
Man in Black: Exactly.
*The Man just chuckles to himself as Seph walks back sitting down beside him. The Man in Black simply leaning back against the sign as he thinks to himself.*
Man in Black: I tell ya, never have kids. They'll always break your heart and fall for the wrong man. Don't get me wrong, Du Lac. I don't like you. I've done everything I can to keep my little girl away from you. Tabitha or no. But I can't keep this up. This ain't no country for men like us. We're a dying breed you and I. I guess that counts for somethin'.
Seph: Are you saying that you... approve?
Man in Black: Hell no. I want her to marry a legend. Not a wannabe. Someone of worth and your not that kind of man...
*Seph's hopeful eyes fell downcast. The sudden ray of hope of being reunited faded as the harshness of the old man's words dug into him like a knife.*
Man in Black: ... Yet.
*Seph looked up in sudden surprise... what was he saying?*
Man in Black: You want my daughter. She wants you to win. So I'll make you a deal. I'm going to send you some help. You do good I'll let her out. You do bad... well I already got my payment. What do you say, Du Lac? You willing to show the big dog you got some teeth?
*The Man in Black simply smiled offering a hand extended wide, his face locked in a thousand yard stare at the pale haired warrior who sat before him. Seph pondered. What he offered was motivation and beyond that aid. To free his love reborn of spirit. For five years they had been separated and now here it was presented before him on a silver platter. but Seph knew who he was dealing with. What he was dealing with. It was never so simple. It never was with him. No matter what he may say Seph knew the truth. He hated him as Seph hated him. So there it was, could he truly trust that which was offered? Could he trust the devil's word? Then again what had he to lose?*
Seph: 'For what profit is it to a man if he gain the world and lose his own soul?'
Man in Black: Matthew 16:26. Don't tell me your chickening out, boy. Might make her a bit disappointed.
*Seph steeled himself and reached out grasping the demon's hand in a fierce handshake.*
Seph: I'll never disappoint her.
Man in Black: That remains to be seen.
*Suddenly there was a fierce wind behind them. A blazing hot wind as if from the bowels of some great desert. The wind blow harder and sudden as The Man in black rose towering over the Fallen one himself As Seph struggled to hold on. Suddenly the Man in Black reached back slamming a fist into Seph's gut causing Seph to release falling backwards from the wind as he doubled over in pain. Seph tumbled like a tumbleweed slowly falling and rolling back as the Man in black adjusted his hat and slowly walked down the road.*
The die has been cast.
The deal struck.
But there is one thing
you must always remember
about my father, love...
*Seph tumbled out of the door as Abel stood trying to listen. Seph crashed into the mountain of muscles of the Human Apocalypse as Abel and him crashed down to the ground. The deal struck as the door flings back open and swirling shadows whirl and twist from the doorway.*
... when you play against the devil...
*Slowly Seph rose as Abel clutched at his mask trying to twist it back to his face. Suddenly the silhouette of a figure steps from the dark and the camera moves behind him as Seph and Abel stare blankly upwards.*
Man's voice: Mr. Du Lac, I presume?
*They sit dumbfounded as the seen slowly fades to black.*
I can feel his anger even in this
horrid heartless spirit.
He fooled me.
