Her nails dug deep into my skin as she pushed her naked frame up against my flesh, the heat between our bodies causing a thin layer of sweat to build up as two became one. She threw her hair back and moaned deeply, her eyes rolling into the back of her head as everything became a blur of ecstasy…
”Mr Blake?”
But everything about this was off, I didn’t feel the same passion, the same heat, I loathed every single second I was with her, with each moan, each scream I heard her voice quiver, her passion faltered. I could sense HIS mark on her and she knew it… I could smell his stink coming off her in waves… I pushed her away, I could no longer stomach being near this wretched pile of filth, this stinking WHORE that no longer belonged to me… She’s someone else’s whore now…
”Mr Blake are you ok?”
The hand on my shoulder pulled me out of the day dream. For a second I don’t remember where I am or why I’m here… The white walls, tiled floor, defeated faces with fake smiles… The hospital.
”I’m fine.”
The coldness of my tone accompanied by my steely gaze frightens the poor woman, she doesn’t get paid nearly enough to deal with the stresses of her thankless job, caring for those who cannot care for themselves sucks the life from you and the short time she’d spent here was already showing on her weathered young face. Her wrinkled forehead was framed by bottle blond hair pulled back into a low pony tail.
”If you’ll please follow-“
”I know the way.”
I brush past the nurse and make my way down the starch white halls of the hospital, the screams of the mentally disturbed growing louder the deeper I went. The young woman beside me looked sad, each scream making her flinch.
”Of course you do…”
My nostrils flared from stinging stench of recently bleach washed floor, my eyes feel as though they were on fire. I detest the cleanliness of hospitals; it’s unsettling, the constant effort to scrub away all signs of death and decay only furthers to remind you of just how much you’re surrounded by it…
SMACK!
My eyes closer then open again and I’m back in the hotel, the skin of my cheek is ablaze from the hard slap, Amber stands before me nearly naked and angry. Her eyes seemed brighter than normal, her normally pale skin burned a hot red and her chest heaved.
”WHAT!? DO YOU THINK I LIKE IT!? DO YOU THINK IS ASK FOR IT!?”
I didn’t answer, I only sneered, we both knew that she loved it that she couldn’t get enough of the way that savage handled her. Look at her, she’s practically begging for it.
”Answer me, dammit!”
She struck me again and again and again until finally I wrapped my hands about her throat and drove her up against the wall. I breathed heavy feeling my blood boil beneath the skin, my heart pounded in my ears, she smiled… Her grip on my wrists loosened…
”Y-yeah… That’s it… Ch-choke me… P-punish me.”
Then I released her.
”No, you’ll enjoy it too much.”
I close my eyes and turn away from her, the sight of her happy makes the bile rise in my throat.
”Do you want me to let you in?”
”Hm?”
White walls, bleach, the frail nurse beside me… I take a long breath, taking note of her skin begining to sag over her aching bones far too early for her age.
”No…”
”Very well, if you need anything I’ll be at the nurse’s station.”
She left me alone with my thoughts… My nightmares…
”AURORA!!!!”
Lighting struck illuminating the darkness, the trees behinds us burned bright as flames danced in the rain… I know this place, I remember this night…. I hated that I remembered it so well…
”AURORA!!!!”
The demon’s voice bellowed in the darkness behind us… Us… I could feel her shaking in my arms, my right hand stroking the back of her head. Aurora. His heavy foot falls broke the brush beneath his feet, somewhere Nero was huddled in a corner crying, a fresh bruise on his face. I look down at my dear sweet Aurora and whisper.
”I’m going to get you out of here.”
She looked up at me with vacant eyes, the eyes of a tortured young girl who deserved so much better. Together we stood up and ran, we ran as fast and as hard as we could until we couldn’t run anymore… We were exhausted when he found us, hypothermic from the rain, his warm hand stung my cheek when he touched it… Or was that Amber?
”WHO IS SHE!?”
Amber struck me again, the little girl was, replaced by the whore before me. Her eyes were red, bloodshot and stained with her black eye liner. She demanded answers to questions she had no right to ask.
”WHO’RE FUCKING NOW!? WHO’S TEXTING YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!?”
She hit me again, daring me to strike back, daring me to put her in her place but I refused… Refused to do what she wanted.
”Dammit Angel ! Dammit! I love you! Don’t you see that!? Look, I don’t care who she is, ok? Just… Just stop and talk to me… We can fix this… Is this about Renee? Or Alex? Look Angel…”
She pressed hers lips up against mine, desperately grabbing at me, kissing me, I gave nothing in return. When she pulled back it occurred to her that she did not recognize the man standing before her any longer. I was something colder, blacker, I was not who she thought I was… And she was exactly what I made her…
”I-I love you.”
”I’m leaving. When I return you had better not be here.”
”Angel …”
Her words trail off into the darkness, into the void and I’m left with the tiny window in the steel door before me… I peer through the glass and there she is, her blond hair clumsily brushed, her pale white skin appearing as smooth as silk and nearly blending in with her gown, she sat cross legged with a raggedy old doll dancing in her hands…
My Aurora.
Sitting in the dark, I can't forget
Even now, I realize the time I'll never get
Another story of the bitter pills of fate
I can't go back again, I can't go back again
”Hollow words.”
My hot breath hits the back of your neck and sends a chill up your spine.
”Empty promises.”
My hands lightly wrap around your waist.
”You recite all the same tired clichés of the fighting champion and while I appreciate the effort you put into playing the part even the most incompetent of us know you’re lying through your teeth.”
“You will rise?”
“You will fight?”
“You will… Win?”
“Oh no, no, no my dear Malaki that is not how this story ends. While your rise to the top of IWF has been meteoric you are not the white knight who shall slay this beast. You are not the hero of IWF fighting against the villain.”
“I’M THE HERO.”
I cradle you lightly in my arms and turn you so that you may look into my cold black eyes.
”I’m the one trying to save this company from self destruction. I’m the one trying to carry all the dead weight on my back to the pinnacle of professional wrestling. I’m the one giving the fans something to cheer for night in and night out.”
“I AM THEIR SAVIOR.”
“I AM THEIR God.”
“While you play the part most exceptionally you’re little more than a place holder, a foot note, someone to be thought of in reverence when MY name and MY title reign are mentioned. Because you will be the first to fall in what will become a true renaissance of professional wrestling.”
I press up against you, you shiver, my body is cold to the touch.
”Don’t fear young hero there will be a place for you in my new kingdom. You’re young, strong, you’ve got the heart of a lion and all that nonsense Joey feeds you before every promo. You will survive this loss, you may even thrive off it. Many men find themselves renewed after coming up against the awesome might that is me. Granted, most men crumble under the pressure but you’re not most men.”
“Malaki Toala.”
“You won’t flinch Sunday night, you will zero in on me with a deadly accuracy and you will hope beyond hope that your brute strength alone will be enough to put me down. I’m afraid sheer force will not be enough, many have tried, all have failed.”
“Roberto Verona.”
“Falcon.”
“Gib.”
“All have stood up to me, all have made the claim to lay me to rest and all have failed. I soundly defeated them in all manner of matches with and without help from the outside. I’ve stood toe to toe with Gods, Kings, Immortals and even your run of the mill everyman. Not a one of them have been able to stop me Malaki so tell me what makes you so different?”
“In the end you’re just a man, a man with a simple mind, a simple mission, that is why the drones cheer for you, you’re simple to understand for their tiny little minds. They can’t comprehend what it is to aspire for true greatness, to build a legacy that will last for millennia. Who I am, what I do, it is beyond them in every way.”
“Hard work?”
“Blood, sweat and tears?”
“They don’t understand those concepts, they are foreign to them but I know you do. I know when you look at me you see the epitome of what it is to be a successful professional wrestler. Oh I know you play the part of the dimwitted hero which is why you waste everyone’s time feeding into the notion that I am the mustache twirling fellow by the train tracks.”
“Heh.”
“It’s an entertaining visage I will admit and while I do enjoy wearing the color black I am hardly the vile being you portray me to be. I did not lie, cheat or steal my way to the top of IWF, the Roulette was not handed to me on a silver platter, Falcon didn’t roll over and die in the Death Cell. I worked for everything I have and whether you agree with my methods or not is beyond the point.”
“They worked.”
Slowly I circle around you, still holding you tight, keeping you safe.
”I am what you hope to be.”
“I will be remembered long after my time at the top of IWF has passed, my name has been etched into the foundations of professional wrestling, my legend is already being told across countless promotions. You paint your cute little pictures in black and white, throw insignificant names and titles around, you pander to the fools in the crowd and the cowards in the back but you and I both know the awful truth…”
“You’d kill your own mother to be me.”
Your brow glistens with a cold sweat, you wish I’d let you go.
”In the end no one is talking about the great Malaki Toala, you’re the under dog in your own title defense, something a man of your size and stature isn’t used to. You look across from you and see a painted up freak and yet, I’m the one they all expect to win. I’m the one everyone is betting on. I’m the one already being called the greatest champion the IWF has ever seen.”
“Me.”
“God.”
“I know that pisses you off Malaki, I know you want so badly for it to not be true. You wish you could walk into this match the way you’ve walked into so many others as the hands down winner before the bell is even rung. But you’re not on Gladiators anymore, or the pre show or even Battleground. You’re on the biggest show of the year facing off against the single greatest professional wrestler to ever live.”
“I’m a whole different breed.”
“Saying you’re out of your league would be putting it lightly, Malaki but I don’t want you to lose sight of what’s important. I am the biggest challenge you will ever face and what you do in this match will shape the rest of your career.”
You tremble in my grip, as you should.
”I know you won’t disappoint me Malaki, I know you won’t give in to the massive amount of pressure bearing down on you because I believe in you… I believe you are everything you say are, I believe you buy into your own hype that you honestly think you have a chance… And after Sunday night, when the reign of Malaki Toala is in ruins, when your bloody, broken and struggling to draw in another breath you will believe in me too.”
“You will believe in God.”
My hands release you, your feet stumble and I watch as you tumble into the void…
But you asked me to love you and I did
Traded my emotions for a contract to commit
And when I got away I only got so far
The other me is dead, I hear his voice inside my head
”Hard to believe she’s been her nearly twenty years now, she’s grown so much.”
”Yes, she has.”
Doctor Holland nodded his bald head beside me, his wrinkled hands buried deep in the pockets of his light blue scrubs. Time was winning this war…
”She’s been drawing you again, she misses you.”
”I know, I’ve been away too long this time.”
”I’m sure she’d love to see you.”
I feel the day dreams coming again, though they play more like tired nightmares in my head. The woods… The darkness… The screaming… And the man I once perceived as a guardian angel sent down to save us…
”Oh my god!”
He scooped her up out of my arms and over his shoulder in one fluid motion; he helped me to my feet and brought us both inside. It was warm and white and safe, it was everything home wasn’t even the stench of fresh bleach was comforting compared to cigarette smoke and whiskey.
”You poor children, what happened?”
I told him our story, he was appalled, sickened, he was everything a well adjusted human being should be when hearing of the horrors we’d seen, but as we talked it occurred to me that she would be safe here behind these stark white walls and barred windows, he could never get to her here or hurt her again and so I lied, told Doctor Holland whatever he needed to hear to give her a room here, to help me hide her from our father, I did as I promised and kept Aurora safe for twenty years… And here she sits before me in her padded cell and hospital gown safe from the world…
My Aurora.
”She only speaks when you’re here now. You should see her.”
I nodded…
She looked so much like our mother it was almost painful to look at her., the smile perfectly proportionate to her oval face framed by blonde hair with bright blue eyes. She looked like an angel…
”Angel! My Angel!”
She leapt into my arms…
”My Aurora.”
Safe and sound…
And we were never alive and we won't be born again
But I'll never survive with dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
Dead memories in my heart
”Sunday night will not be just another night for either of us. It will not be just another match. We will not be just another opponent. Sunday night will be the accumulation of everything the two of us have been working for.”
“You, building a name for yourself.”
“Me, creating a new age.”
“I know you so very badly wish to shrug me off as just another talentless hack with a gaggle of hired henchmen, I know you’d love to believe you will step into that ring and lay waste to me with ease, I know you hope to GOD that I am not what I say I am…”
“I know…”
“But believe me when I say I am everything I say I am. I am every nightmare, every bad day, every ounce of heart ache you have ever had rolled into one form and body. I am the Champion of Champions, the King of Kings, I am THE GOD of Professional Wrestling and when I step into that ring Sunday it isn’t just to become another champion…”
“I’ve been a champion before…”
“When I step into that ring it will be to solidify my strangle hold on this company, it will be to stomp out the last ember of hope anyone has of stopping me, it will be to show once and for all that there isn’t a man alive who can measure up to me.”
“You WILL have to KILL me to stop me…”
“Mow tell me dear boy, what would Mrs. Toala think of her baby if he got some blood on his hands? Would she still love you and appreciate all that money you send her way? Do you think she could sleep soundly knowing her life continues simply because of the life you will have to end to keep her breathing? Could she love a monster like that?”
“Could you look her in the eyes and tell her you did it for her with all that blood on your hands?”
“Don’t lie to me Malaki, don’t lie to them, don’t pretend she’d be ok with it, don’t pretend you’re even capable of it. We all know the truth. We all know exactly what you are, who you want to be and it’s not like me but unfortunately for you that is exactly what it will take to keep the Imperial Championship around your waist.”
“You will have to become exactly what it is you fight against to win…”
“And even then…”
“Would that truly be a victory?”
“I’m sure your mother would agree with me, you’re just not made to be a monster, king, immortal or GOD.”
“You’re JUST a good man…”
“And GOOD men don’t survive.”
You told me to love you and I did…
