As the world's biggest sporting competition samba's elegantly along in Brazil, we take a look at IWF's very own international stars. Will their nation triumph or will they suffer a dirty exit? Roberto VeronaThe IWF COO may have spent many of his formative years in Chicago, but the outspoken Head of the IWF Roster is still a red-blooded Italian at heart. Born in Florence, Verona will be uttering a few more Forza Italia's this next month than usual. Mercedes VargasMuch like Argentina's talisman Lionel Messi, Mercedes Vargas has been setting her own records recently when she became the longest reigning Ruby champion in company history. Can the opinionated champion from Buenos Aires also celebrate a World Cup victory? Amber Richards and Jake ConwayAs far as careers, attitudes and goals go Amber and Jake couldn't be any further apart, but one thing that unites the pair is the three lions on their respective chests. Will the pair be celebrating (in very seperate homes we stress) a triumph over fourty years in the making? Cyrus DanielsIt's been a while since we've seen Cyrus on our television screens (rumours abound that he may very well be back in more familiar surroundings as we speak) but wherever the giant is, we don't doubt that he has his eyes affixed to his own monitor to cheer... or grunt on his Socceroos. Will the Aussies give the big guy something to cheer about?

In a recent response IWF caught up with Hall of Famer Spike Kane for his own input into the biggest sporting event of the year.
Q. The World Cup is in Brazil this year, but Ireland didn't qualify. Do you follow any other team in their place? Being as how you grew up in England?
Spike Kane: Yeah Ireland don't exactly have the best football team, but we'll flatten you in Rugby - a real mans sport. No, I don't follow England. Anyone who knows me, knows that I really am not fond of England at all. Besides, I've spent more time in the United States than I did in England after all. My money would have been on the Spaniards, but after their opening game who knows what could happen. We did an "office sweepstakes" backstage, and I drew Germany. So I'm going with Germany!
Check back more, for more spotlights on the World Cup.
