So Spain , Australia (KLB) and Cameroon (Laszlo) - yes, Spain! - are eliminated from the World Cup already. The loser of today's Uruguay(Alexis)-England (Amber) and Japan (Tolly)-Greece (Sparkles) matches could soon be joining them.

And it's official: By virtue of Costa Rica's (Me) 1-nil victory against Italy , England (Amber) is eliminated from the World Cup. Another successful campaign for The Three Lions ends in heartbreak. Le sigh.

Messi does it again! Argentina stuns Iran (Kyle Rodd) 1-nil in extra time, sending La Albiceleste to the knockout stages (where they will play the second place team in Group F - the Swiss, Ecuador or Honduras). In the meantime, the Argentines next play Nigeria on 6/25.

And with that, Nigeria (Judas Ailah) defeats Bosnia-Herzegovina (Lance Rodd) 1-nil, eliminating The Dragons from the World Cup.

Belgium (Xavier Cross) recorded a 1-nil victory over Russia to become the sixth team sent through to the knockout round.

And Brazil (The Ace) and Mexico (Alex Jones) are through to the knockout stages with dominant victories against Cameroon (4-1) and Croatia (3-1) respectively. Mexico's victory eliminates Croatia (Atreyu) from the World Cup.

Uruguay joins the Round of 16 following a 1-nil victory vs. Italy, who for the second consecutive World Cup goes home.
Colombia ran roughshod over Japan 4-1, eliminating the Blue Samurai from the World Cup.
Greece defeats Ivory Coast 2-1 to and are through to the knockout stages, eliminating the Elephants from the World Cup.

Argentina defeats Nigeria 3-2 in an exciting contest as La Albicelestes wins their group; Nigeria are through to the Round of 16 due to Bosnia defeating Iran 3-1, eliminating The Team from the World Cup
Switzerland defeats Honduras 3-nil, and France drew with Ecuador 0-0; The Swiss (Louise McDowell
) are through the World Cup, eliminating Honduras (Maria), while Ecuador (Ashley Mastrangelo) is the only South American team that failed to make the KO stages.

Germany defeated the United States 1-nil, but the US can celebrate despite the loss after Portugual defeated Ghana 2-1,

eliminating the Black Stars from the World Cup.

Algeria drew with Russia 1-1, but Algeria moves on to the Knockout stages, thanks to Belgium victory vs. South Korea 1-nil, eliminating South Korea from the World Cup

EDIT 6/28 - KNOCKOUT STAGES - ROUND OF 16, DAY 1

And with the first day of the Knockout stages complete, Brazil and Colombia will face each other in the quarterfinals after thrilling victories; Brazil drew with Chile 1-1, but wins on penalty kicks 3-2; while Colombia capitilized on Luis Suarez suspension, defeating Uruguay 2-nil. Brazil remains perfect against Chile in the World, also defeating  their South American neighbors in the '62, '98, and 2010 editions, while Colombia avenged their previous defeat to Uruguay in the '66 World Cup 52 years ago, won by Uruguay, 2-1.

EDIT 6/29 - KNOCKOUT STAGES - ROUND OF 16, DAY 2

The previous lone World Cup matchup between The Netherlands and Mexico ended in a 2-2 draw in '98. The Netherlands overcome Mexico 2-1 to move on to the quarterfinals, while Mexico suffers a heartbreaker that will last for sometime, giving up the winning goal.; Also, the KO stages saw its second match go into penalty kicks. Costa Rica drew with Greece 2-2, but defeated Greece on penalty kicks 5-3 to advance into the quarterfinals.

Les Bleus advances with a 2-nil victory vs. Nigeria, meanwhile Germany advanced with a 2-1 victory vs. Algeria.

EDIT 7/1 - KNOCKOUT STATES - ROUND OF 16, DAY 4
Argentina and Belgium both advanced to the quarterfinal round with tough victories vs. Switzerland (1-0) and the United States (2-1), respectively.
