JOHN GILLMEN'S APARTMENT – ST. LOUIS, MO
We find ourselves inside the apartment belonging to Jack Gaither's long-time friend, ex-wrestler John Gillmen. Jack is seen sitting in his friend's black leather recliner with his hands clasped together as he watches the news conference regarding the grand jury's decision in the case of Officer Darren Wilson. The Arlington native lets out a sigh as he watches the events unfold on his friend's 60-inch HD “smart” TV as John sits down on his matching black leather sofa.
JOHN GILLMEN: Dude, I know that your wife's in Ferguson tryin' to urge people to stay calm, but ya seem a little on edge.
JACK GAITHER: Yeah...I shouldn't have let her go down there tonight.
John looks at a large frame featuring several photos of him and his late mother Linda before turning to face his former tag-team partner on the independent circuit.
JOHN: The way I see it, given that the situation has become quite unstable in recent days, it's only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose. Yet I think Hiroko's only tryin' to follow her destiny. After all, she told me a long time ago that all she ever wanted to do was become a global ambassador.
JACK: That's what makes her so special. She's a very free-spirited, open-minded woman who loves to analyze any given situation and act upon her own instincts. She's got a heart that's ten times bigger than mine.
Jack's voice begins to trail off as he looks at nother large frame above the Islander alum's sofa. The frame features a single photo of Jack Gaither, John Gillmen, and Hiroko Sawada during a much happier time.
JACK: She's the true hero 'round the house, not me. I'm nothin' more than a fuckin' highwayman who'd be dead today if it wasn't for her. I know nothin' about keepin' peace 'cuz my job is about nothin' except violence.
The former history major points toward the TV screen as the news conference begins.
VOICE ON TV: ...no probable cause exists to file charges against Officer Wilson...
Both men solemnly shake their heads as the rest of the decision is read on national television. Jack's jaw drops as John can only muster a slight facepalm.
JOHN: It's all over, man. There ain't gonna be any “winners” in this case—only losers.
The ex-QB slowly nods his head in agreement.
JACK: All I can do now is hope and pray that Hiroko is safe.
