Someone check the clocks, because I think I've gone back in time.
Alexander Atwater picks up the win in a multi-man match, and the next week I find myself staring down the barrel of Todd Williams? I've played this game before. Same old song and dance. And with Todd—hell, with him OR Kyle Mason—it's going to end with my hand raised and my music playing. At least he'll know the steps to follow along.
Todd's old business. But Kyle? You're new business and you're the kind of opponent I need. Not just want, NEED. You've got it, kid. More than anyone else I've seen since I got back, you get what it takes to be a success. You have the skill, the athleticism, and the level head. Todd won't know what hit him. Then, you and I can get some real work done.
All I've asked for since I got back is that my opponents pull their heads out of their asses and give a little respect. You're one of the few who hasn't seen that as some big issue. Thank you. That's all I ask for: a little credit for what I've done. Without men like me and Jake Conway, some members of this roster wouldn't be anything more than bouncers and leg-breakers. Is it so much to ask we get credit for offering these poor bastards another way?
That's not your problem, Kyle. You've got spirit, a drive to not only win but exceed expectations in doing so. You're scrappy, you're easily underestimated, and you've got a concept of respect. I've been there, not as long ago as it feels, and I see a lot of good things for you.
Just not this time. You want this as much as any man could want it, but I want this for more than just basic reasons. It's not about the pay, or the press, or even about being the best. Not anymore. It's about being who I can be, who I have been.
I've been to the mountaintop, I've seen the promised land, and I've tasted the nectar of victory like only the World Title can bring. And even then, there were people who couldn't stand it. Mike Laszlo, Alex Jones, familiar faces. This tournament and that World Title are what I need to remind the world that I'm more than talk.
But before all of that, why don't you and I go out there and tear the damn house down? I steal shows. I'm that good. It's what I do. But it takes two to tango. I want to see how your footwork is, kid.
Here's your cue. Don't miss it.
Corporate Honor: Andrew Jacobsen on Brand Loyalty
Since his return to IWF, Andrew Jacobsen has shown a loyalty to the officials of IWF that was markedly absent prior, especially towards Commissioner Kathleen Conway and her husband, Man of Steel Champion The Ace. IWF.com interviewers tracked down Jacobsen for a statement before his bout at Bloody Assizes regarding his new loyalties, and received this reply:
"...are you joking? Of course I'm loyal to Jake and Kathy. They're my friends. They stuck by me when nobody else would. What am I supposed to do? Rebel because it's cool? No, I'm not about that. Andrew Jacobsen has always stood for integrity, and that's what I'm doing here."
When pressed for further comment, Jacobsen's only reply was that his critics could refer to his match this Sunday if they wanted to know his opinion of them. IWF.com staff was unable to secure further comment from Mr. Jacobsen.[/font]
