How many rats does it take to finish the maze?
It all started with this question.
It seeped into my being and with it a darkness that would eventually consume me.
Many voices spoke to me and they all said the same thing.
I asked my father what it meant and soon after I found Menston as my new home.
High Royds proved to be an uncomfortable situation.
Their inhumane practices would eventually have them closed down but it wouldn't be for years.
Years I spent in treatments that did nothing to treat.
I was young and fallible, unable to understand any of it.
So I spent my days and sleepless nights attempting to figure out the answer to this question.
None seemed to be right.
I had accepted being wrong.
My family never visited me.
It was bad for my condition, they said.
Whatever their reasoning I was left to fend for myself so that's what I did.
I figured things out on my own and discovered my own meanings.
I grew up and taught myself this way of life until finally it hit me and I understood.
It only takes one rat when that rat is named Lex Sense.
{The Law Offices of Marshall West was definitely not the type of place you'd see a vagrant in. It was pristine with a modern power to it. The moment the 7 foot man covered in rags stepped through it's swinging doors, security stepped up to get in his way.}
Security: Excuse me, sir? You can not be in here.
{The hooded behemoth simply stood there and it seemed the guards were getting ready to reach for their pepper spray or tazers. The crowded reception area began to pull out their phones as a sense of dread passed through every single one of them.}
Security: You must leave the premises at once.
{Slowly the huge man reached up, causing the security to grow even more apprehensive.}
Security: SIR!
{With a mighty paw the hood was removed to reveal Sense's face botched with ash. He glared at those attempting to oppose him but their demeanor immediately changed.}
Security: Sorry, sir. We didn't know it was you. Mr. Wes...
Lex Sense: I know what Mr. West is waiting for. Now get out of my way.
Security: Yes sir.
{The security hopped out of his path immediately and Sense continued on, pushing aside men and women alike wearing hundreds of dollars worth of sharp suits. Lex was a grey in a sea of black and white, pushing the button to call the elevator. Many backed away until the elevator opened its' doors. Sense stepped inside and watched as they closed before him.}
"For Queen and country!"
When I was a child, my father would wake up every morning screaming that at the top of his lungs. He believed in the crown and fought to preserve it. I never understood why so many people put so much stock on an archaic system. Even to this day I lack the understanding that could properly explain this for me. I am an Englishman but proud to be one I am not. We are portrayed in silly stereotypes speaking proper English to the delight of a worldwide audience. Our heritage, language has become nothing more than a fluff piece for magazines to flesh out their articles. So you will excuse me, Bernard, when I don't agree with a single word you said.
I am not some mindless buffoon here to open doors for you.
I was never one to follow or fight in hopes daddy will notice. My father institutionalized me the moment I started asking why voices in my head told me to set the house cat on fire. Instead of dealing with the problem, he had others do so. I find no pride in my heritage. Only an abhorrence I will pass unto yours. While you may think that you are capable of the things I am not and truly believe it you will find that I will not be catering to your sensibilities, mate. The chaos that follows wherever my feet step is an original one unseen by any and not felt until it is already too late. Though you think I am incapable of wearing a crown, you are sorely mistaken.
I have been wearing a crown of thorns my entire life.
I know nothing of you besides what you told me. I have no interests in any corporate search engines you named. The way i get to know people is by meeting them in the battlefield. While your stories of ancient magnates might interest few, I find no desire in them. I have lived my life in a fantasy and now I step into reality. My reality will not be a pleasant one and when I am done with you daddy will notice.
He'll notice my dominance and wish for his son to be more like me.
{The elevator opened on the top floor which was the office of Mr. West. The sunlight shone in through the windows, blinding anyone that stepped out of the elevator. His hand shielded his eyes for a moment before dropping them as his vision adapted. Sitting behind a giant oak desk was one Mr. West. The old lawyer had been one for the Sense family his entire life, quitting only to join Sense and his new "family" in a new endeavor. With steepled fingers before him he addressed his client.}
Mr. West: So you've rejoined the world of the living?
Lex Sense: If this is what you call living. At times I feel like I am still dreaming behind steel bars.
{Lex spoke as he made his way further into the office.}
Lex Sense: I wonder if maybe I am too late to rejoin anything now.
Mr. West: It is never too late as you proved in your big debut at Bloody Assizes.
Lex Sense: So what now?
Mr. West: You take a seat and we get reacquainted.
{Sense pulls out the chair and sits down as West pushes a button that slides blinds across the windows that surround him. The light is immediately pushed out as darkness covets the room.}
You may have faced opponents similar to me but you haven't faced me.
My time in Menston was not meant to inspire fear, Ryan. It was an unfortunate decision by my cruel father that believed it to be a necessity for my mental development. Sometimes men like yourself like to bring up this past of mine as if I only use it as an edge over my opponents. You can keep your pity along with your ignorance because I have no need for both. You wish to portray this brave face as if you have no fear towards me but the mere fact that you must mention this proves that you do. It is a sad state of affairs when someone like you thinks they could speak to me in a manner unbefitting for a coward. For someone to create an entire spiel about how my unwanted lifestyle does nothing for him and that's hes faced scarier "monsters", it sort of says the opposite of the point you are trying to make.
I'm a whole different animal.
It is a shame that you think yourself stronger than you truly are for I fear you'll run into me head on thinking you have what it takes to overcome me. But you don't so you wont. I see you've managed to garner a victory from some very notable names and that in itself is impressive but don't think that alone means you are ready to face The Future. The Future can be very bleak and could crush you before you even knew what hit you. You slighted me by comparing me to others. I intend to be my own unique brand of war. For this simple fact alone I must ensure that you remember me so the next time we meet you fully understand why this hype surrounds someone like myself.
I am more of a wrestler than you will ever be.
My stature has nothing to do with my success and you're correct in saying I am not unbeatable. I can be beaten but it wont be by you. My name is known to those that know me and those that know me know what I'm capable of. That's all you need to know. Just because you haven't heard of me doesn't mean I'm not every bit as treacherous as I claim to be. I am a dominant machine that leaves a wreckage behind and this week you get to be part of that. Last week I took two of the eight in this tournament down and laid them out flat. This week I do the same to three.
Starting with you.
{Sense stares straight at the man who stares right back at him. Silence had taken over for the last few moments as if these two were now communicating by mind before West speaks up.}
Mr. West: I'm going to make this short. Your inheritance is quite substantial but there is the matter of a certain requirement that is to be met.
Lex Sense: I don't want it.
Mr. West: Be that as it may, you may want to reconsider. If only for your three daughters.
Lex Sense: I haven't seen them since I disappeared.
Mr. West: Never the less they still exist and while they are quite taken care of, there is that silly little matter of financial responsibility.
Lex Sense: I have never been the best of fathers. My inability to differentiate fact from fiction has seen to that. What the fuck do I care about financial responsibility?
Mr. West: I think it would be best if you fulfill these obligations and passing down this inheritance would do just that. One time deal and that's that.
{A low growl escaped his lips as he thought over this proposition. While Sense was away, his grandmother passed away, leaving her entire estate to Lex. She was the only true mother he'd ever known and this fact saddened him but it would not deter him from accomplishing his goal. Thinking it over, he knew this was what she would have wanted.}
Lex Sense: ... Set it up.
Mr. West: Perfect.
{West begins jotting down notes as Sense pushes his chair back and rises, heading back towards the elevator when West speaks up once again.}
Mr. West: There's also that little matter that has to be dealt with... The promise you have to keep.
{Lex pushed the button and watched as the elevator's doors opened, holding them open with the palm of his hand before turning his neck to face him.}
Lex Sense: Working on it.
{And with that he stepped into the lift, tossed the hood back over his head as the doors slid to a close.}
I am flawed like the rest of you.
I have made mistakes and continue to do so. Do not think of me as some demon from hell here to devour souls in the name of Satan. I am here to spread my joy through your pain. I wish to overcome my insecurities and rise to the top where I believe I rightfully belong. I believe many things it seems but none so much more than my ability to dominate every single one you. I am human with human needs but that doesn't mean I am merely a man. You can beat me Joe but will you remains the question for I am not like the Sense you once knew.
I am a whole new animal.
EverySense was a time I held dear in my heart. I believed that you and I could dethrone a pair of kings then. Unfortunately it was never meant to be. Many say it was because of you Joe. I say it was because of both of us. We had the qualities but somehow we didn't use them right. I learned a lot about myself then and now I understand more than before. I have found something that works for me and because of it I am 15 points ahead of second place, which so happens to be you. Unfortunately, second place is where you will have to stay. I plan to win this tournament and then go on to become the Imperial Champion.
You can understand that right.
Even if you don't it wont matter.. This world has so many fruits for the taking, Joe ,but you've yet to realize your true potential. You've been doing this a lot longer than me and yet have nothing more than a handful of accolades to show for it. Your losing streak is more legendary than anything else you have accomplished. For as good as you are, you have very little to back it up. I know there's something great in you unfortunately it wont be seen this week. This week the new me barrels through the new you and leaves behind scraps for the vultures to feed on. Once your carcass awakens from the dark confines of concussion you will find yourself where you've always been and continue to be.
In a purgatorial hell created for every man.
{Sense steps out of the elevator on the bottom floor and immediately everyone stops what they're doing. He begins walking towards the doors that lead to the street when a familiar scent in the air catches his attention. His head slowly turns towards its point of origin to find someone he wasn't ready to face.}
Megan Sanderson: So... Where the fuck have you been?
{Pulling off his hood to face this vicious opponent head on Sense begins to speak when the scene fades to black.}
I have waited too long to come back.
I can still feel the ring rust when I move about in that ring.
Fortunately it hasn't affected my in ring performance.
If this is me at 80 percent...
Than wait until you see me at 100.
The blood will spill.
