The scene opens inside the Casino, a man who is not known to us is running down a flight of stairs frantically. He gets to a door a door opening it in a panic. he runs through the hall finally getting to the door he was searching for. He opens up to See James Preston standing with his phone to his ear.
Random Employee: Dr. Preston! Hurry, Davey is on the roof peering over the edge.
Preston ends the call, following the young man and hoping Davey isn't planning what he thinks he is planning. The two of them run back up the stairs and get to the door that leads you to the roof. The burst through the door, Preston see's Davey standing at the edge, his toes lined up perfectly with it.
Preston: Davey!
Davey turns to see them, but opts to return his focus over the bright lights of Atlantic City.
Preston: Alright, he's not wearing a cape, and seems calm. Now, I will provide the distraction while you blindside him and pin him to the ground. Put all your might in the back.
The employee slowly turns his head to look at Preston, giving a will eyed look.
Random Employee: You want me to tackle my boss down..? A professionally trained wrestler who has an undisclosed amount of money? Not to mention the fact that he would fire me on the spot. No, we need a new plan. How about this. I distract him, and then YOU tackle him down. He can't fire you.
It is now Preston's turn to slowly turn his head, only his look is one of amazement. He can not believe what was suggested.
Preston: He may not be able to fire me, but believe me he will kick my ass.
RE: And what would stop him from kicking my ass?
Nothing.
RE: Exact....
They both realize the other didn't say it and they look over, sure enough standing by Preston is Davey Ortega
Davey: What are you two doing? In fact, here is a better question...who the hell are you? Preston I swear to someones God if this is another one of your inept bumpkin relatives I might hit you. There is a reason I have a ''No Family'' policy. Remember? Remember a few years back when were still in Las Vegas and you begged and pleaded with me to give your cousin a job and I did. What happened?
Preston: Are you still harping about that?
Davey: He left the keys in the cage door.
Preston: Who hasn't?
Davey: He didn't stock new cards for the tables. That cost me thousands.
Preston: So he is a bit forgetful.
Davey: He set fire to my personal toilet!
Preston: It was his first day.
Dave: It was the first six hours.
Preston: Alright look, Cousin Jimmy-
Davey: I'm going to stop you there. The fact the words ''cousin Jimmy'' shot out of your mouth validates everything I said, and the rule stands. So I'm sorry random member of the Preston family but I have no work for you.
Preston: Davey, he isn't related to me.
Davey: He's not?
The random employee shakes his head ''no''
RE: I've been working for you for three glorious months.
Davey smiles.
Davey: Ass kissing is an art form. It has to be subtle. If you have worked for me for three months I know it was not ''glorious.'' Look at Preston. Sunken eyes, never smiles, a constant feel of defeat. Working for me is...well Hell. So keeping that in mind, tell me why you are here?
RE: I..um..
Davey: It's a simple question. I have hundreds of employees right under my feet. Literally at this point. I want to know why out of all of them, you decided to stop doing what I pay you to do?
RE: Well I am your -
Davey: No no, no no no...I didn't ask what you did. I asked why you stopped doing it. Honestly at this point it doesn't matter what you did. Every second you stood here, having a pointless argument with Preston cost me money. So allow me to reiterate what I said. I have no work for you. I have no work for someone who deems it necessary to abandon his job. Short of death there is no reason to leave the post that I assign you, that I pay you every week to be at. The task you perform is vital to the entire operation. Yet here you are. Here you stand in front of me and that vital position goes unattended. That's alright though, because as vital as it is...it can also be performed by a below average primate. Multiple people have come before you and many more are still to come. If you haven't figured it out yet you are beyond fired. Now kindly get off my roof, and out of my Casino.
The employee stands in shock. Not to sure if all this just happened.
Davey: If you'd like I will gladly get security to escort you out. If that isn't intimidating enough then I can help you. Though I warn you it is one hell of a drop.
The employee slowly walks to the door, looking back when he is half way between the thresh hold. Davey gives a stern looking, Preston nodding him to go. He slowly exits the scene. Davey walks over slamming the door shut. His head lowered.
Preston: ....Primate?
Davey slowly raises his head, knowing exactly where this is going.
Davey: Don't...
Preston: That was a favorite word of someone wasn't it?
Davey: Yes. Yes, yes, the voice of IWF loves calling people primates when he is not obsessed with Skittles. I'm sorry but I know I will always be on edge out in that ring. Knowing a man I despise, a man who damn near killed himself to hurt me is mere feet from me. I heard all the things he said during my debut. Yes, I watch my matches to study. I know I can beat Doc, I saw my mistakes, though that is not the issue.
Davey turns around, walking past Preston, back to the edge of his Casino. He looks out to the lights once again.
Davey: The issue is the propaganda he clearly spews. I proved to Them that I can wrestle. He had a front row seat to the best match of the night regardless of what They say. I truly feel no disappointment in my performance last week. I kicked Doc in the face, he kicked me in the face, although lets be clear I only needed one attempt to kick him in the face.
Yet Doc did something that night that only a few other people have been able to do. He earned my respect. He showed me the lengths he will go, and that he can manipulate his surroundings almost as good as I can. I know I pushed him to limits he didn't think he would go too. He won, but at a price. I know he woke up Wednesday knowing he was in a fight and not just any fight mind you. A fight with Davey Ortega.
So after that brawl we have been thrown together in a tag team. Well, I'm not a ''tag team'' sort of guy. I've tried a few here and there, but ultimately none of it really stuck with me. Why should I share any victory I have? That is what Doc wants. From what I understand he wants me to see the bigger picture. To get that W. I do want that W, Preston. I need it to prove to me that I am back one hundred percent and for the long haul. Only we have run into two problems that may prevent that from happening.
Criminal Intent is one. Please, don't get the wrong idea I am in no way afraid of them, my problem is it's just to easy for me. When Joe and I were a team they couldn't beat us. The sad fact is we were defeated once in our run, and Criminal Intent was always our tune up match. They may think they are setting up for an iconic clash. In their heads may be visions of waging the bloodiest battle against Infamous and walking away with the title firmly in their possession. I like it, dream big...hope big. That's all it is, that is all they have. Are they even aware of how brutal those two can be? Did they do their research, look up past matches? I honestly don't expect Criminal Intent to survive much less walk away with the victory. Maybe it's the fact that I have already showed them I am superior to them, or that I think they won't even be in existence after Lineage. Though they won't get my full attention this week.
They know why.
Everyone knows why.
If I lose this week, if I cost Doc and I the match I won't care. My eyes, and thoughts have been and will be centered around one man this week. The man dawned in black and white. Spike Kane. Criminal Intent think he is there to stack the deck against them, but that is not the case at all. Criminal Intent may of riled him up, but what they constantly seem to forget is that they are nothing more than the flavor of the month. They will get their shot, and then be hurled back down the ranks. They are a title defense to him. I am so much more. Spike and I share a rather long and intense history. He is very much aware of the damage he caused both to my career, and personal life. For far too long that man has gone unpunished for the crimes he has committed against me. I know now, more than ever, I am capable of extracting my revenge. Finally indulge in my inner most fantasies or bringing him down to his knees in defeat. Not just defeat but a slow, antagonizing one. I want to take everything he loves and cherishes. And with me, unlike Criminal Intent, he knows it's more than a threat.
So, what will happen in that ring? I have had a long time to think about what I would do the very first time I am in that ring with him. Every scenario has flashed before my eyes and now, knowing the specifics of that time it stings. So what am I going to do? Will I think of the big picture like Doc wants, or revert to the one core thing I know and want. Spike fucking Kane. I honestly can't give you an answer, though I think Doc should be very grateful that this is a no disqualification match.
Davey swiftly turns around, facing Preston and walks right by him.
Davey: Preston, A-llonsy.
With that Davey walks through the door that leads to the staircase leaving Preston on the roof. He looks out to the city, a worried expression shown on his face.
Random Employee: Dr. Preston! Hurry, Davey is on the roof peering over the edge.
