I have learned a lot in my short time on the IWF roster. I mean, I learned everything I could while I was in developmental, but no amount of training can prepare you for the moment that your music hits, and it's make or break time.
The crowd have made their mind up about you, a third of the way to the ring.
I held that thought in my mind when I made my debut, and from my own personal experience, it felt like they embraced MD as one of their own. I'm a fan, first and foremost. I was fangirling all over the place backstage, unable to comprehend the fact I was an IWF Diamond, and that I was going to take part in a show the likes of Jess, Amber, and Ana, made famous. I was going to be one of them, even if it killed me. I'll never forget my debut, it was arguably the greatest moment of my life.
As was winning the shield maiden championship, two weeks ago.
Going into Danger Zone, this is only my sixth match, and I know, I know, I keep bangong on about it. I keep reminding the world I won my first championship in only my fourth match, but get this, I'm defending it in only my sixth. Against my best friend, our second pay per view match against each other.
Kate Steele has been my opponent in exactly half of my matches, as of Sunday.
Thing is, I tend to come out the victor.

The best part about only recently becoming famous was moments like these. Standing in amongst the crowd, rocking out near the pit, while my best friend is on the stage singing her heart out. In this moment, I envied her. I mean yeah, I'm living my dream being a professional wrestler….God I hate being called a sports entertainer, don't anybody ever do that. So yeah, anyway…..colour me green, cause Kate gets to do that AND she gets to rock out on a stage like this with every single person paying attention to her, and boy was she doing a great job.
“Come on everybody!”
Her voice rang out through the room, Madison Square effing Garden! This little punk rock princess from little old England, showing the yanks how it's done.
“You know the words, sing them with me!”
The explosion of noise around me, it was intoxicating. Everyone joining in, and it swept me up too, I'm standing her being jostled around, bumped into and pushed about…..and I'm singing at the top of my voice. I mean, this is the life….right?
“This chick is so awesome, I'm so glad we came. She's real hot too!”
A random guy was shouting to his friend, a little too loud. He wasn't being rude though, it was in his tone. He was, in some way, trying to compliment her, so I figured I'd throw him a bone.
“She's my best friend!”
I leaned over and shouted in heir direction, that's when I saw the flicker of recognition. They knew who I was, and it just made me smile even brighter. They began to geek out, and it blew my mind to see people reacting to me the same way I would react to meeting my heroes.
“Holy crap! You're Shea O’Hara, right!?”
The loud one was just staring open mouthed, it was his friend who spoke to me. I just nodded my head, a little out of time with the music so he knew it was intentional and not just part of my dancing.
“Can we get a picture?”
My smile must have been from ear to ear, hell yeah! Of course I'm down for that. So I moved between them and put an arm around each one, careful to turn around so that the picture would have Kate in behind us, doing her thing. The guy took a couple of pictures, and I tried to change my face up for each one, a smile, stick my tongue out, pretend angry face….the lot. I was marking out as much as they were. My first true fan interaction. They gave me their thanks, and I smiled and gave them high fives before turning back to the music.
This is the life.

Kate, I love you girl, I really do. I'm so glad that we get to tear it up in the ring together, at a pay per view special event, nonetheless. It's our third match against each other, exactly half of my matches Kate….that's kind of a big deal, in my opinion anyway. We've gone out there and thrown caution to the wind, we've given it our best and just tried to put on great matches, for the fans, as much as for ourselves.
But this week it's different.
This week, I have to defend my championship. Like a true champion, like a fighting champion. I have to go out there, and make sure that I either get you to tap out, score a pinfall….or heck, even a count out! I mean, like...eeww, who wants one of those, amiright?
The fans pay their money to watch usnply our craft, so to speak. They want to see us tear it up, push each other to the limit, and step it up from the last time. Each week has to be better than the last, other wise we get stuck in a rut, and people get bored. We rely on using the same four or five moves every match, and it becomes stale. That isn't me, and I reckon I know you well enough to know it isn't you either Katie.
We have the ability to steal the show. We have the skill to put on a match of the night. We have a duty to the Diamonds division, to raise the bar, set it, in fact, for the girls to follow later on in the night. We’re up first, we have the chance to give the crowd something that will send them home buzzing….we have the chance to show up the girls in the Diamonds Championship match. Not out of spite, or malice, or anything like that. Simply, in the name of competition. I am the shield maiden champion, and I'm fully aware what pressures and responsibilities this places on my shoulders….
That's why I'm glad my first defence is you Kate.
Now I don't mean to be big headed, and make it seem like I'm looking past you, because truth be told? While I'd be heart broken if I lost, I would still be over the moon for you. You're my best friend, we know each other so well, inside and out. We don't need to scout each other, we've been there, done that, got the t-shirts….but you know me Kate. You know how competitive I am, you know what type of drive I have…..the passion inside of me….
To quote one of my favourite cartoons growing up…
“I want to be the very best!”
Like no-one ever was Kate. No-one.
