He watched as the trees and street signs whizzed by along the side of the road. A construction crew were building a new set of condominiums. Some kids were riding there bikes on the sidewalk, and a flock of birds flew through the air above. He saw a family playing at the park. He wondered what that was like. He never knew his family. His dad was awol his mother had passed away and any extended family gave up on him a long time ago. It was a beautiful day, he thought, and it had the kind of smell they put in scented markers to represent beautiful days, so you knew this day was legit. How do they put a smell in a marker? He was gonna have to google that one later, right after looking up how they get milk from an almond!
“Jayson, are you listening?”
His eyes widened and his eyebrows raised. Busted! He took a wild guess.
Jayson Matthews: Um.....yeah, of course sis. You were just talking about how Steve Awesome is a dick.
Mandi Matthews, who expected to catch Jayson distracted was surprised to find out he had been listening the whole time. She sticks out her lower lip and nods in approval. She keeps her eyes on the road as she drives.
Mandi Matthews: Yeah, that's basically it.
Jayson silently mouths “yes” and uncrosses his fingers.
Mandi Matthews: But I was just saying thank you for letting me come with you to the old man's house. It's nice to get out on my own. I'm happy Steve is back around but ever since he lost all his movie deals and then that whole Rob Diamond thing back at the roulette, he's been kind of different. It's like he's hiding something from me, but I don't know what it is.
Jayson wanted to say “another girl, considering Steve's track record” but he didn't want to upset her so he kept it to himself. Jayson knew Steve had good intentions with his sister but he had a lousy way of showing them. Jayson wanted to make it better for his older sister but to be honest he was all out of advice, besides, she'd never follow it anyway.
Jayson Matthews: Well your the one who loves him, so I guess you gotta figure out what's wrong and what your going to do about it.”
Mandi nodded her head. She knew what she had to do all along, but sometimes the hardest step was the first one. But she was done thinking about it right now.
Mandi Matthews: So what are we going to do at the old mans house today?
For the first time on the car ride, Jayson turns and looks at his sister in the driver seat.
Jayson Matthew: “We” aren't doing anything. You're going to wait in the car.
Mandi's upper lip curls in disgust. She didn't like that idea.
Mandi Matthews: How come I have to stay in the car? Why am I even here if I can't go in? You could have just drove yourself!
Jayson rubs his face in his palm.
Jayson Matthews: That's what I tried to tell you back at the house!
Mandi Matthews: I want to know why I can't go inside.
Jayson Matthews: Because, the old man says your not allowed to, okay!
Mandi takes her eyes off the road for a moment to glance at her brother in confusion.
Mandi Matthews: The hell do you mean he said im not allowed too?
Jayson can't seem to understand why she is getting so upset by all of this. It all makes perfect sense in his head.
Jayson Matthews: Because we do super manly work outs and practices in there and he says you would ruin the moment if you were in there.
He just rolls his eyes and chuckles. How dumb could she be he thought. Mandi, however, was thinking a whole bunch of other things that not only frightened her but also angered her extremely.
GPS: Destination Arrived.
Mandi puts the car in park, turns it off, unbuckles her seat belt and opens the door and gets out all before Jayson knew what was happening. Jayson scrambles to unbuckle his seatbelt and he calls out to his sister from the car.
Jayson Matthews: Mandi nooooo! Think about the moments!
But Mandi wasn't listening. She stormed up the walkway and up the steps of the porch and right up to the front door.
Mandi Matthews: It's time me and this old man had a few moments.
She bangs on the door like the police during a drug raid. The door swings open after a few moments and there stood the old man behind the screen door.
Mandi Matthews: Do you wanna tell me about these “moments” you've been-”
Mandi finally took a second to actually look at who she was talking too and what she saw made her think she saw a ghost.
Mandi Matthews: Grandpa?

Fade in on Jayson Matthews standing in front of a camera.
“You know what your going to hear a lot of this week?”
He puts a hand in the air and moves it so that he four fingers meet with his thumb in a constant "flapping" motion.
“Talking.”
He shrugs his shoulders.
“It's pretty much inevitable. We as pro wrestlers have been flapping our gums ever since we first laced a pair of boots. We all usually grab a camera and talk about whatever is on our minds. What were going to do, how were going to do it, who sucks? Who doesn't, and many graphic descriptions of brutal violence. Most importantly you got all these guys talking about who is going to win and the answer is almost always themselves.”
“They always talk. And this week we all have a lot to talk about. This lumberjack match could decide the rankings toward the new tag team titles, and thats something my new friend Warren Kane would like to be talking about for awhile. But the problem is that they all talk without thinking sometimes, myself included, sometimes we talk without realizing that one day those words could back and bit us all in the ass. And it will never end, it's human nature to talk. It's been happening since the dawn of time. Im pretty sure the first caveman to invent fire was out at the water hole the next day bragging to his buddies.
Jayson clenches his jaw and makes his eyebrows line up together and his beats on his chest in a pretty good impression of a neanderthal.
“UGGA BUGGA SUCK MY DICK!!!”
He jumps around a bit before stopping and ending it with a chuckle.
“People will never stop talking. And I'm sure you'll here plenty of words from my enemies this week at Destiny. Everyone taking part in this lumberjack match will have something to say. About me never winning a match, about how im ugly and I smell bad, or that time I wet the bed at summer camp....
Jayson gets a little red.
“Remind me to edit that part out....
He clears his throat.
“I'm sure you'll hear from Teddy Steele. The house-husband himself. The man representing old glory. The man who can kick up a beat and then bust a hot flow all over it. This guy is a walking party and a self promoter so its a wonder we're not begging him to just shut up right now. This guy is great in the ring by the way he tells it but honestly he's kind of a huge loser just like myself.
“I mean I know what it likes to wanna have fun and forget the fact that you can't win a match to save your life but sooner or later Teddy Steele is going to run out of trash to say. At least I attempt to find ways to get better. At least I use my losses as learning experiences. Teddy Steele just forgets it ever happened and then goes out and buys the pants for his wife to wear. It's almost commendable of a guy like Teddy Steele you know? To have become this big of a laughing stock and a joke and just not care about it. To have a horrible win loss record and just not care at all.
Well I sure hope that Teddy Steele doesn't think that this week at Destiny is is going to his time to light it up out there in that ring because Jayson Matthews might just “Steele” his thunder.”
Jayson gives a serious nod into the camera just so he knows people don't think he's joking.
“Then there is a guy like Nighthawk, who is a bit of the exception. See Nighthawk is the kind of guy who likes to do much of his talking in the ring and that's what I've always liked about him. He's always been a wrestler first and foremost. But see Nighthawk has a huge problem on his hands that he could really benefit from talking about with himself. You see Hawk is stuck in wrestling limbo.
“He retired a few months ago citing that he felt like he was done in wrestling. But now with the rumors of the tag belts coming back Nighthawk dusts off his boots and drags in a new partner for one last shot at the gold. But the real question Nighthawk, is that lust for tag team gold truly in your heart or is it just in your head? Sparkling there like a good idea would but it's really just disguised as a pipe dream? I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that Nighthawk always seems to look like he's one step away from going home for good. He loves the idea of wrestling and being here, but he doesn't have the drive. They didn't even let him wrestle in the good tag team match. They brought him back just to face the league of jobbers in a give me match.
You need to decide what you really want Nighthawk. Are you back now, or are you retired? Because if your just a retired legend barely hanging onto a dream then I give you a personal guarantee that you'll get run over this Sunday night. Think it over and get back to the world Nighthawk and of course good luck....
…..may losing give you the strength to go home.....
Jayson adjusts his Anthrax t-shirt and clears his throat.
“Then there is Mohammad Al-Thani. Now this guy is the ultimate talker. Ever since he walked into the door here in IWF there have been people begging this guy to shut his mouth. A foreign man forced to live in the world he hates, with a drive to succeed in a company he badmouths. And you know, I don't want to make this thing political, but i'll tell you right now “Al” that I'm a white american male and I haven't had any success here either. I'm just here based on my acute ability to fall down gracefully.
And I'm sure your going to come out here and flap your foreign gums. Your going to point a camera in front of your face and talk about how bad America is. How this great country is only holding you down. Holding you back from reaching your true potential. Your going to claim that America is why you weren’t even in matches for months and how the good old US of A is the only reason why you haven't made a name of yourself yet.
Well I'm afraid I've got some bad new Al, the only thing that's going to be holding you back and keeping you down is Jayson Mother Fudging Matthews for I'd say about three seconds big guy. Prepare to see more lights then a fresh faced amercian kid watching fireworks on the fouth of July. 'Merica!
He rubs the top of his head.
“And that brings me to Adam Knite.”
He exhales in awe.
“The certified legend. Without Adam Knite it is blatantly clear that IWF would never be here. I've checked out the dirt sheets. Everybody says that Adam Knite is the favorite to win this match and if I wasn't in the match he'd be my favorite to win too but I can't bet against myself even if I'm a joker and he's a king. And you know Adam is going to talk. He didn't get to where he is today by staying quiet. No way, he talked a big game every week and then went down to the ring and backed it up. The records don't lie. The hall of fame bids don't lie. The title reigns don't lie....hell so many people singing this man's praises all at the same time couldn't possibly be a lie.
He takes a step forward.
But I can't let that talk keep me down. You see Adam, I've always had a bone to pick with you but I never thought I'd get to be in the same ring with you at the same time. And you may kick my ass at Destiny and prove once and yet again that your Adam Knite but I'm telling you right now Adam that I'm coming to Destiny to give one full fledged punch to the jaw, the hardest one I could muster.
I spent years in NCW.
I did everything I was told. Wrestled everyone you said, me and my old tag team partner did. We did the best we could trapped under the shadow of Steve Awesome. All we wanted was a chance, an opportunity, and you know what you gave us Adam? You handed us our pink slips.....because you thought it would be FUNNY! You let us become embarrassed by Hexx and Mimic and then shitcanned us in front of the whole world.
His face starts to curl. The anger was obvious on his face.
“You took my dream and you laughed at it Adam.”
His fists clenched.
“You made a mockery of my life for your own self amusement.”
He slowly shakes his head.
“Well nobody makes a mockery of my life except for ME!”
He points at himself with his thumb.
“And I don't care how much you talk about how tough you are or how bad I am, nothing is going to stop me from ensuring that this Sunday at Destiny is a really bad “knite” for you.......
Then he points to himself again.
“So then it comes to me. Why am I talking? What’s my message to my opponents, the IWF and the world that watches at home? You know I could say that I’ll walk out of Destiny as the winner of this big lumber jack match but that’s what everyone else is going to say. There all so sure of it but the fact is that I have about as good as a chance as they do. Four men enter, only one man walks out a winner, that’s anybody’s ballgame, anything could happen. So you ask yourself why do I talk?”
Jayson takes a few steps closer to the camera.
“I talk to send a message. I talk, as the only man in this lumber jack that will get overlooked. I talk as the one man in this lumberjack that’s never had a real chance. I talk as a man with everything to prove, with everything on the line. I do belong here, I do have what it takes, and I plan on showing Adam Knite, Teddy Steele, Nighthawk and Mohammed Al-Thani exactly that. I may or may not walk out as the winner but you can rest assured that the guy who does walk will have deserved it. The man that claims victory will have EARNED that right because I SWEAR to everything that is holy, that I’m laying it all on the line come Destiny. I’m giving this every ounce of sweat, every drop of blood, all the way down to the last beat of my heart and if you wanna stop me from achieving my own dreams boys…..you better be ready!”
He cracks his knuckles as he glares into the camera.
“So why do I talk?”
He shrugs and shakes his head.
“I'm done talking.
Fade.
