TYLER TELL ALL
#2 - ALEX JONES
The following is a transcript of a podcast between Tyler Jacobs, and Alex Jones.
TYLER: Welcome ladies and gents to the second ever Tyler Tell All. With my special guest, Alex Jones!
ALEX: Thanks Tyler, makes me feel a little weird I'm second behind Spike...again...story of my career right?
Michael Patrick Kane
TYLER: What makes you say that?
Anthony Jones
ALEX: Spikey has been a world champion before me in every company we've been in together....XHF, NCW, IWF....it's not a bad thing...just a funny observation
TYLER: But you two have been friends for a very long time, right? You've shared some moments across those federations.
ALEX: Yeah we have, great memories and moments, some of them career defining, he's one of those guys who's name will always come up with stuff like this. And that is ok with me. I think I'm old enough to not be so damn insecure now... *laughs*
TYLER: Well, all that aside. You've had quite the career yourself. When you look back, is there any particular moment that stands out - in your mind, that "this is where I made it"?
ALEX: Well in XHF it was probably the X Crown but there is always another summit to scale you know?. Being Imperial Champion was great, and being NCW Champion to. I think if you ever sit back and say "well I made it" then it affects your passion and I don't ever want to feel that
TYLER: So there's definitely still heights out there you want to achieve?
ALEX: Oh absolutely. A second Imperial title maybe?. I mean no one has done it twice yet and it would be pretty cool.
TYLER: That would certainly be history making, and hey, a first too! But let's take a step back for a second. You've been in this business for a long time. When did you first make your debut, and how did you get into this business?
ALEX: Oh man that was 12 years ago at the age of 19 for a company out of east Texas called PWA. And honestly it was just the whole boyhood dream thing. When I graduated high school I wrestled making independant dates while in college and three years later when I graduated I could go more...global..but before that...hell man when I was in XHF I was still a college student.....it was all just my dream and my life...wrestling was "it"
TYLER: Wow, who would have thought? Well, we can't really talk about Alex Jones, without talking about the women in his life, right? From as far back as XHF female wrestlers have played a big part in your life, would you agree?
ALEX: Yeah they have, from Tanya Byrd, to Shelly and of course Ana right?. Thing is Tanya and Shelly were just there. Ana was someone I met over ten years ago and I had no idea at the time but she's my one and only. she and I were meant to be. But every one of them has affected me, positively or negatively
TYLER: That's become quite obvious to the IWF fans. Some were sceptical at first, but most people just seem to be happy for you two now. Does that make a difference at all?
ALEX: It does and I know the whole story with Spike and Angel rubbed people the wrong way but in the end it was a means to an end. She's my wife, I love her. Tanya and Shelly basically ruined me, Tanya almost fuckin ruined Spike!...and Shelly almost ruined Angel!.....beware of women scorned Tyler....
TYLER: Are there any wrestlers from any federation you would cite as influences, or that had an impact on your career like Tanya, Shelly, and Ana did?
ALEX: Ha all my greatest rivals. Spike, his brother Brad, Kevin Hardaway, MGK, Venom, Adam Knite, Xavier Cross, Verona, Ricky Johnson, Renee Pleasant...not Todd Williams though..that guy sucks
TYLER: Even when he means business?
ALEX: When his business is blockbuster and everyone else is freakin Netflix....
TYLER: *laughs* Ok, so as a father, what is the IWF Schedule like?
ALEX: Not too bad, I mean...I took time off and stayed with my kids. I wasn't there for alot of Dylan growing up and I haven't been there for my first Daughter Harmony as much as I should so when Harley was born i needed that but at the same time it's not the amount of time I spend at home..it's the quality...and that's what's important
TYLER: Exactly right! Speaking of quality, as we turn to the IWF roster, who do you think are the top...let's say five, talents working right now?
ALEX:Damn man...not including me right?. Well....Conway, Laszlo, Warren Kane, Ryan Shane and probably...........Zasshu....
TYLER: That's a pretty fine list. Now, this one is a controversial one....do you think anyone is overrated?
ALEX:Kayla Richards, Jess Reed....and probably Rob Diamond.....and Adam Knite....and Nighthawk....
TYLER: Interesting list...why Nighthawk?
ALEX: You know a thousand holds but what's the point if you can't use them?. You might be the most technically gifted guy on the roster but if you don't actually beat people...who cares?...and he has no charisma...it's like talking to a wet dishcloth
TYLER: That's some pretty harsh words there. Haven't you guys had some pretty good matches in he past?
ALEX: Yeah and a great match entertains the crowd, but he entertains himself but has never...ever capitalised on it. He goes out there and shows every single time what a great athlete he is and how technically brilliant he is....but he loses...time and time again....cause he has no heart....
TYLER: Is there anything you'd say to him to make a change?
ALEX: Not sure if he'd listen but...stop trying to be this perfect ideal of what you believe a "professional" wrestler is...just be you...cause if all you are is a "technical wrestler" you'll never be whole..and you'll always be in guys like myslef and Spike and Laszlo and Verona's shadows....
TYLER: Well, 'Hawk has a shot at the Man of Steel Championship at Bloody Assizes against Ryan Shane. Who himself has been quite a dominant champion. How do you see that playing out?
ALEX: Well I see Hawk dominating on the ground but I see him failing cause Ryan Shane has heart and isn't just a soulless machine
TYLER: Seems like you really have it in for Hawk.
ALEX: I don't have it in for him man you asked *laughs* he's not even on my radar....I should be facing guys like Verona, Ace, Laszlo, Adam Knmite, Rob Diamond, Zashu, Warren Kane...not guys like Nighthawk who are just marks for themselves and get off on watching wrestling tapes from 1982
TYLER: If you say so! I'm pretty sure Nighthawk will have something to say about this. Regardless, let's move on as we've rambled on a bit. Thinking back, can you think of who you would regard as your toughest competition?
ALEX: Man that is a tough one. There's three guys I think my name is kind of locked in with. Spike Kane, Angel Blake and Renee Pleasant. There have been others but those three took years off my career and if i'm honest my life....
TYLER: Can't argue there. Is there anybody on the roster you want to face?
ALEX: Warren Kane. I see alot of his dad in him. I think he's at that cusp of greatness and really breaking out and showing the world he is better than his uncle and father...he's been through alot and I'd love to have one of those matches that leave people in awe and help him become the star we all know he can be
TYLER: That's some pretty nice words for the youngster. Who knows what will happen in IWF, right? So, let's play a little word association to end on.
IWF.
