"I see Cable has suddenly found a mile long rope of motivation."
{Gjenrei sat on the floor, eyes closed in quiet contemplation, not an easy feat in a crowded room such as this. Angel stood beside him, having just left his office, watching Cable go through his motions in the sparring ring, making sure his game was in top form for the show in a few days.}
"Don't suppose you had anything to do with that."
Gjenrei: His motivations are his own. I am merely his guiding hand of faith.
"In english, please?"
Gjenrei: I reminded him that he is in control of his own destiny, and the thoughts and actions of others do not shape it without his consent. Same can be said of all men.
"Right. Well, at least I know that he's ready. Are you?"
Gjenrei: For your execution? I am prepared for any eventuality at all times. This I learned from you and Mr. Braddock.
"Are you going to give me lip about being unhappy with this situation too?"
Gjenrei: No, I'm sure you were well aware of how I would feel when you made the decision. I am aware that I am powerless to prevent it. That I am also honor bound by the contract that I placed my name upon to do what it requires of me.
"But you don't like it?"
Gjenrei: I do not.
"You're starting to sound like Jones for as much as you say that you hate him."
Gjenrei: You mistake my mistrust for hatred. I do not believe even now that he is fully committed to his new way of thinking, as he has yet to be tested in his resolve. But it is not my concern either way. I will carry out this lesson that you desire to teach, but I will not turn it into an assassination attempt. Know this now.
"The only thing I expect out of the two of you is to do your jobs."
{But Gjenrei could tell that the words lacked the same conviction they should have had. Angel turned on his heel and walked away.}
Gjenrei: Perhaps you were expecting me to thank you for putting me in the ring with two men of this calibur talent. However, I see through your games, for it was you who taught me of them. So sorry to disappoint you.
"Tsk, tsk, always questioning those who know much better..."

"You know, we can say all day that we don't like the situation we're in. In fact, as I look around, I doubt anybody in here likes what's going on. I know for a fact that I do not appreciate being used as someone's errand boy, especially someone who is doing so simply because he can from his position of power. Even though that person is one of the men who is training me, pushing me past my mortal limits and transcending me into the realm of absolution. Honor guides me in a way few men understand, and though Alex Jones may claim that my views are skewed, I will make clear what it is telling me.
This is an excellent opportunity to test the skills you have learned against a veteran and well experienced opponent.
This man is no slouch, and will simply not roll over and die because Angel wishes it to be so.
While it is my job to face this man in honored combat, it is NOT my job to remove him from this company or this mortal coil.
And I will do no such thing.
If Angel wishes Doc to be removed, then that is his own agenda and he will have to deal with it himself. I will not be a hired gun, or a hitman, with no clear reasoning myself. That being said..
I will also not go easy on a man, by virtue of outnumbering him.
You may call it cold, callous, or cheap, but in life, not all things are as we like them to be. If the situation was reversed, and as I suspect it may be soon if I continue to question the orders I am given, I would neither assume mercy, nor expect it to be granted. I want the two of you to look at yourselves and then see if you can tell me with a straight face that you'd prefer to have things easy for you week in and week out.
I, for one, do not.
As crazy as this may sound, I would prefer Doc's position. The harder the struggle, the more prevalent and fufilling the reward. For if the journey of life were easy, what would you have learned by the end of it save that the road wasn't worth walking? I would stand against an armada if I must, with my back to the wall, my life in my own hands and a smile on my face. Regardless of how you may feel on the issue, a Samurai never stands alone.
Even when I am by myself, the past heroes and legends are with me, guiding me. The examples they left behind show us what worked, and what doesn't. That is why I do not believe you Alex, because the road behind you is littered with more bad decisions than good. You cannot erase fifty bad deeds with one good. It is promising that you've shown that you are sincere as of late, but until you can defy temptation, I cannot see anyone believing in what you are preaching.
The fact remains that it should not matter if they believe you or not. Just like it should not matter to Doc how many enemies he makes. A man is measured by the quality of his enemies, or so the old saying goes. So is that more of a compliment to you or Angel, I wonder? But no matter, such things are not my concern.
I will see you on the field of battle, and we will see how things progress from there. I will see firsthand the courage of the trodden, and the will of the tempted."

Gjenrei: What do you want, Amber?
{Amber Richards stepped into frame, taking a seat on the floor next to the man in the mask. She leaned against him, a move that she was quite aware irritated him, intentionally so.}
"We're trained at the same place, why do I have to want something?"
Gjenrei: Because you and I are not friends or comrades. You have little excuse to play friendly unless you want something, we both know that, so you need not beat around the bush.
"We could be friends."
Gjenrei: The possibility is unlikely.
"So you can be all buddy buddy with Cable, but not me? Oh, how your words wound my soul."
Gjenrei: I think you'll get over it. I will remind you that Cable and I were not immediately friends either.
"Ah, yes. Your trust issues. I forgot."
Gjenrei: My issues as well as my reasons are my own, Amber.
"Oh, I know all about them."
Gjenrei: Unlikely.
"Oh, but I know. I know who you are, under that mask. I know your history, your "lordly" nickname. All sorts of things you've been keeping quiet since you got here."
Gjenrei: A clever bluff, but a bluff and nothing more.
"Just keep telling yourself that. I'll keep all your secrets.. for now."
{She stood up, and stretched, and when she looked down at him she found his cold eyes burning back into her. She smiled, sweetly, like the cat who ate the cream and got away with it. And in a sickenly sweet soft voice she said.}
"You're a burden to him. You hold him back. He doesn't need you, and he doesn't respect you. He told me so, at the bar. And as you're aware, the things we say when we've had too much to drink are the most true. Someday soon, he'll drop you. Leave you broken and cold in a pool of blood, where you belong... And even that is better than you deserve."
{He said nothing, and she blew him a kiss and taunted him with a wave as she walked off towards where Cable was still training.}
