So this week is going to be a little different because honestly I wish I could put everyone in the top five. Survival of the Fittest was an amazing show from top to bottom, from the familial reveal of Fiona McFly and Jinx to the stellar matches between Bob Pooler/Nighthawk and Andrew Jacobsen/Kyle Mason right up to the Extinction Event itself. Survival of the Fittest was a show we won't soon forget, not just because of the winners but because of the ramifications some of these matches will have on the future of the company. Now to get started.
Number 5
Andrew Jacobsen
Survival of the Fittest not only marked the return of Andrew Jacobsen to Imperial Wrestling but the triumphant return to Imperial Wrestling. He stepped into the ring with (former?) friend in Kyle Mason inside of the Man of Steel cage, the two of them went from pillar to post and gave each other everything they had in a showcase of two very different but very effective styles. In the end it was Jacobsen who shook off the ring rust and managed to tap out his former stable mate Kyle Mason with the sharpshooter. With the House of Howlett having essentially defeated all immediate competition this leaves Andrew Jacobsen in good position to lobby for a match against Spike Kane, the God of Steel. This run could mark the redemption of Andrew Jacobsen and the somewhat sour career he's had in Imperial Wrestling in the past, especially if he keeps working at the rate he worked Sunday night.
Number 4
Helena Sawyer
Ms. Sawyer has been somewhat of a sleeper competitor in the Diamonds Division, not to say she isn't an impressive athlete just that she's been flying under the radar with such feuds as Fiona/Jinx and the Extinction Event build up. That being said she has impressed from day one, picking up several key victories. The last few weeks provided her first real stumbling block as she works to carve her place in the Diamonds Division but with her showing against Pandora Freeman this past weekend I think it's safe to say Helena Sawyer is here to stay and anyone over looking her is making a serious mistake. The Shieldmaiden is now in the hands of Eternity, one of the scariest competitors to ever wrestling in Imperial Wrestling and it gives me goose bumps thinking about what a match between Eternity and Helena Sawyer would look like.
Number 3
Fiona McFly and Jinx
Don't take the number 3 position to mean a step back for Jinx, on such a stacked card with such amazing matches things are not necessarily going to be ordered by "importance" as I hold both of these athletes in high regards. That being said their match and the aforementioned reveal of their now very personal relationship to one another was a sight to behold. Fiona has long since be the staple of good sportsmanship in the Diamonds Division and it's hard to imagine how this revelation will impact her. Will the truth of her family break her? Or will she solider on determined to fight for justice? It's too early to tell but what we do know is Jinx seems to have been aware of their relationship and willing to use it against Fiona to gain an advantage. That to me is an incredibly bad omen as this feud is only really just getting started and Jinx is no where near finished with her sister.
Number 2
Nighthawk
Nighthawk is one of those men like Spike Kane and Jake Conway who is a legend in this business. He's wrestled everywhere against pretty much everyone and has held championships the world over. His name is in several Halls of Fame and for good reason, he never backs down and he never gives up. It's no secret Nighthawk has had a rough go of it in Imperial Wrestling but things seemed to have turned a corner for him the last month or so as he has picked up some big victories. This past Sunday was no different as he stepped into the ring with Bob Pooler, a legend in his own right and a man who has only really lost to Spike Kane since his return to Imperial Wrestling; and picked up a huge win against him. Nighthawk has been an adamant adversary to the House of Howlett and now seems to be putting the pieces together to make another heroic run at him. A win over Bob Pooler is no easy feat but Nighthawk accomplished it and that is more than likely only the beginning of his new found lease on life.
Number 1
The Extinction Event Winners
This is what I meant by when I said the top five was going to be different this week. There was no way I could separate the winners of the Extinction Event and rank them as each participant played an equal role in this match. From the death defying stunts of Spike Kane to the pompous nature of Noah Field to the dangerous head games of Eternity to the disappearing act of Jessica Reed to Cable Arcane coming through on his promise to retain. It's hard to even separate the champions from the challengers or the winners from the losers here as everyone played an important role in the match. But in the end the House of Howlett retained are their gold, Jessica Reed seemingly escaped with her Championship and Paige Garcia in tow and Eternity captured her first Shieldmaiden championship. IWF put forward the best of the best at Survival of the Fittest and with the House coming out victorious it's hard to imagine who is left to challenge them, where as the Diamonds Division seems to be wide open with fresh faces and opposition for their champions, The House has continued it's months long domination of the roster. Personally I'm excited to see what's next from all of our champions and the challengers from that match, it's an exciting time in IWF right now.
And I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who had a match at Survival of the Fittest, it was one of the best shows of the year.
