The Show Must Go On

[Diamond Steele]

The cameras come into focus and as they do we are treated to the sight of Kate Steele with her Electric Guitar in her hand. She is standing in the empty Bardot Bar in Miami Florida. There’s a microphone stand in front of her and she taps it gently as she lets a smile escape her lips and speaks into it.


“Hey is this thing on?!”

She can hear the echo of her voice carrying throughout the bar. She clutches her Gibson Les Paul 2017 T Electric Guitar tightly as she strums away. She smiles as she looks down at her pedal board changing a tune as she strums passionately. She moves her eyes back to the camera as she starts to speak.

“Good evening to everyone in IWF. This weekend right here in Miami everyone will have the pleasure of watching me step into the ring with the likes of Amber Richards and I know you are all expecting a great wrestling match between two English wrestlers. Two women who were born and bred from the same country stepping through the confines of the ring to put on the show of a lifetime for all of the wrestling fans to enjoy.”


Kate ‘s smile fades away as she can’t help but shake her head in disgust as she strums at her strings violently.

“There’s only one problem with that concept. It’s the fact that Amber Richards doesn’t want that. Ever since she came back to IWF she has come back with vengeance. She is only out for blood and wants to make a statement. I honestly don’t know what the hell got into her. When I first came into this company back in 2013 I was young and naïve. I was only 21 years of age and was new to this whole wrestling thing. I tried my best to become a singles star but I wasn’t good enough.”

Kate strums more violently than ever as she frowns right into the camera.

“However in the midst of everything, when I found myself losing match after match. I was able to go to Amber Richards. She was able to coach me on my return. She was a woman I looked up to and as a matter of fact you could say that I idolized her. After all it was like a veteran English woman looking out for a newer one that was starting out. The more she saw me struggled was the more that she was there to coach me through. That was a woman I admired. You could say I respected her and the respect was returned.”

Kate nods her head as she leans into the microphone again.


“That’s the type of relationship that we had with one another and it’s a relationship that carried over to me befriending Kayla. Her little sister is one of my best friends and I thought everything was healthy among us. Yet the type of shit that I have had to put up with this month has been bloody asinine at best. What are you trying to really prove Amber?! Is this over some silly notion that you don’t like what wrestling has turned into?!”

Kate rolls her eyes as she continues to pour her heart out to the camera.

“Upset because wrestling is now filled with punk rockers, dancers, stuck up beauties, and actresses?! You need to get over that because I can’t speak for everyone else, but I know that my rock and roll has always been second to that of wrestling. Being in a band is a passion and a hobby. Granted I have been playing with guitars all of my life but wrestling is my livelihood. Wrestling has always been my desire, and after watching my sister Samara get into the ring, and learning about my father being a fighter. I knew this was the ONLY path for me. So you can’t be questioning my desire to fight when you and I are two cuts from the same cloth. You making your journey all the way from Norwich and me coming from Reading Berkshire. So that can’t be it!”

Kate nods her head as she speaks some more.

“Plus it can’t be that because YOU had a hand in coaching me to where I am today. So for you to even question my integrity or what I am about would mainly be you looking like an idiot as well. So it can’t solely be on that. If targeting me was some petty way to get respect again. I must say it’s a load of arse. It’s stupid considering you are a former Ruby Champion and a three time Diamond’s Champion. At any given point you could get inducted into the Hall of Fame here and would be respected across the world and the history of this company.”

Kate waves her finger.

“But no! In order to make your big journey back to this company you had to use me for an example and that’s where I have to draw the line! You didn’t have to go through all of that just to get noticed. You already had the admiration and respect of everyone. You simply pulled a cheap stunt just so you could be the flavour of the month. You know what that makes you?! It makes you no different than everybody else. Everyone else who makes their return trying to shake things up a bit, trying to use a big stunt such as taking out who you deem as weak to make a statement.”

Kate leans closer to the microphone stand as she steps on yet another pedal. Her tune is that of heavy metal as she strums violently.

“The only problem with that concept is like I said you aren’t different. No different from Crystal making empty promises to bounce back, no different from Pandora saying this is her year! And it’s certainly no different from me when I thought I could get what I want by throwing tantrums. Talking myself as the best submission wrestler in the division, and mainly turning my back on my friends to further my statement, but you want to know where that got me Amber?!”

Kate shakes her head.

“It didn’t get me anywhere. It took me a while to gain back the trust of Shea and messing with Mrs. Conway is something that I regret. Something that’s just now starting to get resolved. I know what you are trying to do Amber but I personally have walked in those footsteps and it got me NO WHERE! I don’t know what it is that you are after but rest assured I won’t allow it to go any further. You won’t restore credibility by using me as a footnote. That’s when I have to nip this shit before it goes any further!”

Kate seems to be getting really upset as she looks right into the heart of the camera.

“So you thought I was your meal ticket to getting back to relevancy Amber?! You thought after kneeing me in the face a few times you would be done with me?! Well no it doesn’t end there because all you have been doing is stirring a beast. I feel like this entire month you tried to take out a caterpillar who wasn’t ready to fight back. You may have unleashed an assault against me but that’s when I harden myself and went into a cocoon. The moment this Sunday hits you will see that cocoon break open. It breaks open and that’s when you see me soaring above you!”

Kate smiles passionately as she speaks some more.

“So tell me Amber how will it feel to have stirred up so much shit only to find yourself flushed right down the toilet?! You love to brag about how everyone will get your knee in their face but what happens when you get my foot shoved up your arse?! What will happen then… Will you be able to pick yourself back up or will you cry how I got lucky?!”

Kate waves her finger again.

“To be honest it really doesn’t matter. You need to be taught a lesson and I know I am one of the smallest women on the roster. That reason alone might have made me an easy target but don’t think that I am just going to keel over and let you have your way. That’s not how this works. You poke a beast over and over again eventually you will wake something up and that beast will strike back. Under the bright lights of a Pay Per View setting you will get put firmly in your place. You will see what happens when it’s you and me one on one. Whatever might have happened in the past can stay there.”

Kate continues to get hyped up as she speaks some more.


“At MetaMorphosis you are no longer the woman that helped groomed me to become a wrestler but the two of us enter the ring as equals. You will see me beating you and proving to everyone in this entire company that 2017 was meant to be my year. This is my way back to being front and centered. You will come to the realization that biggest of all things comes in the smallest of all packages. Do you hear that Amber?! Are you ready for me to sing… Try not to get entranced after all this is my Siren’s Song and following will lead to you getting SHIPWRECKED! See you in the ring Richards? Let’s see what you can do when my focus is solely on you, and there are no other parties to worry about!”

With that Kate continues to play as we fade out on this image.

{It was almost show time as I prepared to go on live for our band Guilty Pleasure. I smiled as I was backstage putting on my bomber jacket. I had my Les Gibson 2017 T Electric Soundtrack around my shoulders. It felt differently being part of an All Girls band. In the past it was all about being a member of Ignorant Discord trying to get my band in order but of course they say my ego had gotten the best of me. Now it was about being in a band filled with nothing but women, and honestly I felt somewhat happy to be a member of something so great. I served as the Rhythm Guitarist and vocalist for the band. My friend Melissa Reaver was the Lead Guitarist, Steph Mcdiddle served as the Bass player, with Cass on the drums. My husband Teddy sighed as he wanted to be in the band but was shut down by our lead vocalist Kenzi Grey. Speaking of Kenzi where exactly was this chick?! I grimaced as I looked down at the time on my cell phone as I stood up glancing at everybody else in the room.}

“Where the hell is Kenzi at?!”

{Teddy could only shake his shoulders in return as he glanced back at me.}

“I don’t know where she is but sound check is in about fifteen minutes and then you all are all scheduled to go on in two hours. She better get here soon or else we might have to call this whole show off!”

{Everyone in the room just sighed as they all looked back at me. I ran my fingers through my hair before I glanced at the door where Kenzi was walking through. She really didn’t seem to be herself as she just looked back at me.}

“Hey everyone… Kate can I have a word with you?!”

{I rolled my eyes as I didn’t know what to make of it. Kenzi and I have never really gotten along with one another so what could she possibly want from me?! I just gave her a look offering a long deep sigh as I crossed my arms at her.}

“What is it Kenzi?! Is this where you try to call me a boney bitch again?! Is this where you try to disrespect my husband for the umpteenth time or better yet are you going to upstage me again?!”

{I throw everything at her as Kenzi could only shake her head in return. She offers a very long sigh as she holds her tummy in response.}

“No… It has nothing to do with that. Look I can’t go on tonight!”

{My eyes are instantly raised as I jump up and put my guitar to the side. I grab Kenzi by the arm as I yank her right out of the room. I close the door behind me as I glance directly into her eyes.}

“What do you mean you can’t go on?! Kenzi the entire band is depending on you tonight. Every other performance has just been about us as a duo but we really haven’t had an official band performance yet. This is our moment! Our chance to show everyone that you and I on the same side could actually work. Cut the crap and just perform with me!”

{Kenzi holds her stomach in pain as she shakes her head.}

“Look Kate… I know you and I have had problems but this is your show tonight!”

{I can only sigh as I shrug my shoulders back at her.}

“And why exactly is it my show Kenzi?! You have so many people counting on us tonight!”

{Kenzi sighs in return as she backs up against a wall.}

“It’s my stomach! I have a stomach virus. Every time I try to stand up I….”

“Details! Too many details that I didn’t need to know. Look just take care of yourself I will do the singing for the both of us.”

{She looks at me as she grabs me giving me a long passionate hug.}

“Thanks so much for everything…”

{She says as I wave back at her.}

“No worries we are bandmates that’s what we are here for right?!” We are supposed to be there for one another despite what happens. You know I got your back right Kenzi?!”

“But you and I have never seen eye to eye with one another. We always seem to argue over the type of music. Over our set lists among everything else, I just….”

{I just shake my head as I continue to look at her.}

“So what despite everything it doesn’t take away the fact that we are both signed to CTN and we are in the same band. Granted everything won’t always be rainbows and butterflies… It’s compromise….”

{Kenzi looks at me as she crosses her arms at me.}

“Are you really going to use a Maroon 5 lyric on me?!”

“Hey… Admit it… It was awesome!”

{I giggle in return as she just shakes her head with a sigh at me.}

“No… It really wasn’t… Look you bon…. Look Kate just rock the stage tonight…”

{I nod my head. Kenzi was never one to be really nice to me but this could be the start of something special. I look at her in the eyes as I walk over to her and wrap her up for a long passionate hug.}

“Don’t worry I will… You will be missed tonight but you know I am going to sing as if you were right there beside me…”

{Kenzi can’t help but chuckle as she nods her head back at me.}

“Good… You keep this type of stuff up we might actually become friends one day.”

{I smile back at her.}

“Good I will hold you to it but for now we have a show to perform. I hope you feel better and let it be known whatever success we have out there tonight. It’s for the greater good of the entire band. It isn’t the same without you there with us.”

{Kenzi and I glance at one another before she looks back at the door.}

“Thanks for really befriending me. You shouldn’t keep them waiting. Just go out there and do what you do best. You know I will be watching you right? Don’t mess up what should have been my solos. The moment I see you messing up I am seriously going….”

“Kenzi relax and have faith in the band… After all you handpicked a majority of everyone in this band. Let us go to work. We got you….”

{With that Kenzi waved at me. I nodded my head as I waved back. I walked through the doors back to the other band members. The show definitely had to go on. It was no different than going through the curtains getting ready to compete. It was time to bring my A Game, and not let everyone else down.}
