"Andrew Jacobsen thought he was the one. The one who would take it all away from me and claim his 'rightful' spot as the face of the Man of Steel division. He attacked me on Sacrifices, called me out on Twitter, and what did it all amount to?
Him choking.
Both literally and figuratively.
Now that I've cemented my place as the face of the division, I get to move onto yet another hero to the people, Caleb Lockwood.... and I'm not sure what to think.
See Caleb... you're a man of the people now. A triumphant story of a guy who lived on the streets and made his way all the way up to the big time in the biggest wrestling company on Earth. You're that same predictable redemption story that I talked about last week... the thing that annoys me more than anything else. You're the guy who wants to make people believe in you, and you'll kill yourself to do it.
And I don't understand a second of it.
Seriously. What's your frequency, Kenneth? Those people who chant your name when you go out there every week? They're the same people who stepped over you and ignored you when you on the streets begging for money. They're the ones who looked at your little cup and dropped three nickels and four pennies in it. Nobody gave a crap about you for most of your life, so now you're determined to make them love you now. Is that it?
So will those same fans be cheering when you break your neck in the ring while trying to inspire them with your little flippy moves? Nope. You'll get the same polite applause that anyone would get, and then you'd go back to being forgotten.
The world wants you to succeed. They want to believe that the kid from the streets can go on to live out all of his dreams and be on top of the world. Those people want you to succeed, Locky. That is, they want you to succeed... until you don't.
A master of gravity, an amateur at everything else.
I see you, Lockwood. You've been around for a little while, and every now and then you start to show glimpses of someone who might be something some day. Every now and then you shine a little brighter than normal and people say 'This is the time. This Lockwood kid is on the rise!' And yet, where are you? You're not main eventing.... you're not challenging for a belt.... heck, I forgot you ever worked here.
Those flashes of greatness only serve to blind us from the fact that the other ninety-nine percent of the time, you're as average as it comes. But if we ever need someone to flip four times and nearly kill himself, you're our guy.
And maybe I'm being overly harsh, but really, Caleb... what have you done? You fought your way up from the streets for this? To be the lowest man on a totem pole that keeps growing higher and higher by the day?
You're better than that.
Or at least that's what you want us to believe.
So Sunday's your big chance to finally step up to the next level for good. You've got your big opportunity to beat the champ, and to prove your worth. Fame, fortune, and a likely Cruiserweight Title push are waiting for you if you can pull this off. The story they'll write about in all of the wrestling history books is there in front of you.
It's time for you to reach out and grab it, or just go away.
I can make you a star. I can make people remember your name.
... In the same way they remember the Titanic, the Hindenburg, and John Carter.
Seriously. How bad was that movie?
I'm not mad at you for trying to fight your way to the top, Caleb. You're trying to do what so many guys before you did. I came in and was great from the start, but I know there are guys like you who need to work a lot harder to get here. And if it were any other day with any other opponent, I'd say 'good luck'. But it's my spot you're trying to take...
... and I'm the one who does the taking around here."
Him choking.
