Sometimes it's not about how much noise you make it's about how much noise you don't.
A man can lose a single match and lose his focus, but not me, I've never really been the sort to lament these things, a loss makes you just as strong as a victory does.
As long as you learn from it.
That's the key, Victory teaches you something, but losing? Losing has always taught you more, it tells you to buckle up, stand straight work harder.
Losses aren't the end of the world, but the funny thing everyone needs to remember about a gamble is it’s exactly that: A gamble.
I don’t have the storied career some of the guys here in the IWF Have All I have to go on is a victory at the CWI and impressive showings, impressive showings don’t mean dick f you can’t get it done when it counts, the Roulette has made a d broken careers when realistically all it is a matter of a simple question and a question only you yourself can really ever answer.
But I digress, You came here for Devlin, Didn’t you?
Have Devlin.
The Usual cacophony of digital glitches and Wireframes doesn’t come through instead we’re treated to an almost smoky setting, Green Baize and numbers in a gird, red and black laid out as we realise we are looking at a now somewhat legendary Roulette table.
Devlin is deck out in a Croupier’s uniform, and loos somewhat bizarrely smart and neat, the Devlin in black and red indeed The Destiny dealer in full Dealers Regalia as he spoke with a chuckle.
“Place your bets, please.”
Shadows of men, that somewhat represent the Members of the IWF Roster start to place bets, some stacks are larger than others one of the first bets on the Table is place in a pile of steel chips, the larger form spreading the chips with an almost utter disregard for just how many have gone down.
Other Bets are place more carefully the colour of the chips all seeming to represent an individual on the Roster, Another Devlin seems to melt out the shadows to leans in to place his own Chips down and the dealer speaks.
“End your bets..”
He reaches up to spin the wheel and produces a ball which can be clearly read as to say “IWF” on it , and just as he drops the ball in, the scene seems to freeze as everyone watches with baited breath.
The dealer, after a few seconds turns to the camera and smiles deeply.
“And that, if you believed most is what The Roulette represents, men casting their all for that one shot, one opportunity to ascend up and get lucky or good, but more lucky, to put your trust in fate to have one match cement your legacy.”
Devlin, shakes his head and starts to walk away from this table to another one , this time sitting down and pulling a deck of cards starting to shuffle as he looks into the camera.
“Idiots, that’s what they are, and yes chance is a factor, always is, but there’s always a strategy, always a game plan somewhere , for some it’s very much to level everything in their way, victory isn’t even their ultimate goal, destruction is, I don’t think I need to point out who I’m talking about there do I? Here a hint though.”
Devlin deals the card, and you come to realise it’s not a traditional playing card, it’s a Tarot card, customised, on this card, we see the assembled members of the House of Howlett, well most of them Chiefly Laura and Noah , as the meteor that seems to be smashing them apart looks a bit like Cable Arcane and the Text Beneath reads The Tower. Devlin covers his mouth with an impish chuckle.
“Oh , sorry, spoilers..”
He flips the card over and winks at the camera with a tap of his nose and he flips it over again to real, just black and a scythe, the somewhat infamous card and the text says it all.
DEATH.
Devlin taps the card with a chuckle and leans back.
“Here we go, here’s what we’re talking about something everyone here seems to hate the most unless it’s in their benefit, Change, that’s what this means, in the Tarot everyone gets hung up on this card because y’know they think it’s an end wrong this card just represents change, now yes sometimes that’s bad and sometimes that’s good and The IWF has had a –lot- of change recently hasn’t it? Cable Arcane, stabbed in the back and knocked from her perch so Noah Field can ascend to the throne, the assurance that the house always wins looking shakier and shakier as we now get to appoint where everyone is lining up to take their shot at the Crown Prince…The Man who would be king… Et Tu Brute am I right? Right.”
Another slow chuckle as Devlin shakes his head.
“I once quoted I am the Captain of my Fate, the master of my soul, I don’t –do- Chance, I don’t –do- Luck despite my wacky titles to the other appearance, I’m a man with a plan even if it’s a plan that on the outset seems like it’s utterly crazy, My plan initially was in the CWI Invitational..”
Devlin gestures Behind him as a Neon green Tick glows behind him.
“My Next plan was to secure Invictus or at least Rattle JFK’s Cage enough and get a revolution going against the House, because truth be told? I’m never too hot on the idea of one person holding all the pieces.”
Behind him the Big red X starts to flick on.. and then a Question mark next to it and he looks deadpan into the camera.
“Shall we call the first part of that a work in progress and see how the second part of that Pans out, given recent events I would think –I- Am the least of Laura Howlett’s Troubles But we’re talking about a new Plan and a new goal aren’t we? Throwing my dice and seeing where the metaphorical Ball drops in the Roulette, me against, who know how many people and last man standing gets a shot at The Joffrey Baratheon of IWF.”
Devlin pauses.
“Dated reference I know but, I think it’s apt, don’t you? But either way, I’ve decided to toss my lot in, come what may, standing firm to face whoever comes my way, Left and right and dropping Destiny wherever it may be found until I’m either lad on the ground feet planted firmly and walking to the back, or being carried or standing proud to face the cardboard king. ”
Devlin chuckles.
“As a Man once said it only takes one good match to make you a legend, I’m not long tenured here but that doesn’t matter , does it, Devlin Raine is already a name to be seen and heard And come Roulette, I’m looking to make my mark Gentlemen, looking to claim my destiny and deal yours around.”
Devlin winks and steps out of the foreground as the Roulette table behind him explodes into life once more, a door opening up to close as we slowly fade to black.
