Has been!?
HAS BEEN!?
Each punch of the heavy bag got harder and harder.
Let me ask Lizzy, how the hell are you going to call me a has been? Don’t you have to be somebody before you can make that accusation to someone who has more wins, and more titles than you’ve ever had?
Ashley turned to the camera for a brief second and held out her glove covered arms.
I mean come on.
She turned back and started hitting the bag some more.
If that’s all you think of me little girl, you’re sadly mistaken, and deeply misunderstanding things surrounding me.
A quick shrug of the shoulder before unloading another punch would indicate there was more.
Then again, you think that I announced my interest in the Iron Maiden to steal your spotlight, so perhaps, you’re just totally off base to begin with.
She hits the bag with one last combo and a final strike of declaration before undoing the gloves and dropping them at her feet before looking back upward.
I didn’t do this to steal your spotlight Lizzy. I didn’t announce my interest in the match to take anything from anyone. I announced my intentions to want to get my professional life, back on track. You see little girl, after the death of my brother, I thought the world was going to end. I checked out the window every day to see if that was the day the sky started falling, and then, when I finally realized it wasn’t going to happen, I knew I’d have to look deep down within myself to find the resolve to pull myself out of this...and that’s exactly what I did.
She walks over to the bench where her bag sits and pulled a bottle of water from a pocket. She takes a quick swig and holds it down by her side.
I picked up the pieces of my life and with some effort and some time away from this craft that I loved, I put them back together, and I can stand proud before you and say that I did a pretty damn good job of it.
I got myself together.
I got my family back together.
And then I had this itch to scratch. I wanted to get back in the squared circle. I wanted to wrestle again. I surveyed the landscape and while some would say that I ducked from better competition, I thought of it more as wanting to become better before returning. I thought of my hiatus from this company as a chance for THOSE girls to shine...you know, the ones you think of as “Never Will Be” talent. The ones who have more talent than you do in their pinky finger.
The likes of Fiona McFly, Crystal Millar, Kate Steele, Eternity, Alexis, Jessica Reed making a splashy return, and now even those snotty brats, the Garcias showing that they’re every bit the stars they obnoxiously proclaim to be. They took up for me leaving, for Amber leaving, for Ana leaving, and they made this division a competitive, thriving division, each bringing their own flare into a business that is so diverse it gives you goosebumps.
And then there’s you.
She wipes her hands on the towel as she continues on.
There’s you who comes into the division and thinks everything should be handed to you on a silver platter...just because that’s how things have been in real life, isn’t it little girl? Whatever Lizzy wants, Lizzy gets.
NOT TODAY!
It’s time for you to learn a valuable lesson princess, and I guess it looks like I’ll be the one who has to teach it to you. In life, but more so in this business, in this company, things aren’t just given out based on a name, or past achievements. When I came back, I knew I was going to have to prove myself to the world again, and that’s exactly what I plan to do.
You on the other hand, just want that silver platter rolled out in front of you.
I plan on earning my keep Lizzy. I plan on proving to this world that I am still the girl who held the Ruby Title. I will prove to them, and you, that the word “has been” sure as hell doesn’t apply to this girl.
With that, she grabs her bag and slings it over her shoulder, walking out of the picture.

I was breathing heavy as I walked out of the gym to my car. I sat in the driver’s seat for about five minutes just to catch my breath. I leaned forward and rested my head on the steering wheel.
”Damn, I don’t think I’ve worked out this hard in a long time.”
I was still taking some heavier breaths when the IWF Travel Agent called.
”Yeah? Uh huh. Yeah, that’s no problem, I’ll find another way there.”
I hung up and let the phone fall out of my hand on top of my gym bag. While I seemed calm while talking to them, I couldn’t help but feel enraged on the inside. Due to some problem getting me a last minute flight to the event to make my big announcement, I had to find my own way to get to freaking Missouri. There was one way, and I had hoped he hadn’t left yet.
I grabbed my phone again and dialed a number. I waited until someone picked up on the other end.
”Hey Mike? It’s Ashley. Not bad. Hey I have a favor to ask. Nobody is supposed to know, but I’m making a comeback and was supposed to make a surprise appearance on Sacrifice. Yeah, I know...great. However, there was an issue, and now the travel person is saying they can’t fly me out last minute to make the show.
Really?
It’s no bother?
When are you leaving?
Okay, I’m going to fly home and grab my bag, it’s already packed. I’ll meet you at the plane? Sounds good...thank you SO much.
Bye.”
I tossed the phone again and fumbled around the pocket for my keys. Being friends with a rich guy who has his own plane and just so happens to be heading the same place you are really has it’s perks.
I flew home and grabbed my bag, not even bothering to change. I threw my hair in a redone ponytail and flew over to Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland. Mike had a place ready to park our cars, and was waiting on the plane with Alexis for me. I ran from my car and could hear him calling from the steps.
”Slow down, we’re in no hurry.”
I got to the steps and dragged my luggage up them and into the plane. I had a seat on the side and looked across at Mike and Alexis.
”What?”
The two of them were snickering.
”So...back to work huh?”
I smiled.
”Yeah, hell of a way to start.”
The pilot told us to prepare for takeoff as he pulled the door closed. At that point, the scene faded.
