The sound of a door opening and closing echoes in the black, as we fade in to find Devlin walking into the middle of a dusty crossroads, dressed in that card dealers uniform and looking around himself with a wrinkle of his nose.
Out form the distance a voice echoes and Devlin turns towards it even as it peels out and nothing remains but the wind.
"May sleep give you the courage to go on.."
Another voice form again, Behind Devlin and he turns to face that spectre of the past.
"WANT! TAKE! HAVE!"
Devlin scratches the back of his head as yet another voice joins the fray.
"ALL. BLOODY. HAIL!"
A sign post in the middle flashes up even as more voices join an a cacophony of catchphrase, building one after the other flooding the seemingly empty void with a sea of noise before Devlin faces a final direction and huffs a breath , that direction being the camera and smirking.
"It's enough to make your head spin, isn't it? Enough to make you lose your way, enough to question why it is you go on, this right here is a point of no return, this.."
Devlin scuffs some dirt into the air with a boot as a point of reference.
"This is where it all starts to really matter, this is where we choose to go, most everyone chooses to walk one way."
Devlin points towards the camera with a smile and shakes his head. Even as he starts to take steps backwards away from the camera.
"When in actuality they doing this, facing one way whilst travelling the other, or worse yet, going the wrong way entirely, it's always Forwards! right? the greed? The brutality? The ego? It's worth it ...That what this business is.. we spend our lives arriving form one crossroads to the next and we have to decide which way we go, sometimes we're forced by events to jump to the next intersection over, Invictus, God of steel Imperial.. They're different roads with different crossroads of their own, and all of them end up in one place, high road, low road, doesn't matter We all find this same spot somewhere in there, so I hear you ask, why am -I- Here, Devlin Raine destiny dealer with the Roulette mere weeks away Why have I chosen this little metaphor?"
Devlin smirks, eyes looking into the camera even as he swagger forwards.
"Because nobody else would, because nobody will spent their time admitting to -any- of you that they have spent times in this place travelling absolutely nowhere and just getting by before something provoked them to pick a direction. Any direction, you see it doesn’t matter which road you take, hell even going backwards is an option, as long as your ass is -moving somewhere- As long as you keep going and a lot of guys they will use this match to try and propel themselves to heights undreamt and others will use it to...Dare to dream an' nothing more, I'm not going to sit here and lecture you on how I'm going to win, who I’m going to beat, you've heard that song and dance over and over, no this here is a lesson in what it takes to get up there no matter what road you walk, and that is to have the will to carry on in the face of -everything- to fight against the criticisms ,the doubts and pick a direction and forge your own path ."
As if to prove Devlin's point a fifth road starts to burn out almost alongside heading a different direction and Devlin grins just a bit.
"In the end I know, in my heart of hearts That I can best anyone , That I can throw them over the rope watch them crash an burn and rinse, wash and repeat 29 times if I have to I know the reality of that is far harder than any sort of misguided confidence will let on, you'll have team ups, betrayals you'll have somebody decide you're a juicy looking worm because you've been in that ring for nearly half and hour and you nobody can go that long, can they, In this match there are no heroes, no villains just pure opportunity and a chance to shoot at the Imperial Tile."
Devlin stares off into the middle distance as a convertible car starts to pull and he moves aside along with the camera, a rare on camera shot of Kate is now available , purple hair, sunglasses a Devlin Raine Shirt shorts and a smile as she opens up the door and pats the passenger seat with a chuckle as she spoke up.
"Time to go"
Devlin takes a moment to check his watch and eyes bug a little as he grins at the camera, shutting the car door as the car points towards that latest freshly burning path and he salutes as he puts on his sunglasses.
"I;eve yo uall with one final thought, the time for words is almost done, and the storm of epty, pointless platitdues will arrive, hell we've alreayd had planty.. So I say this...Good luck Gentlemen, because when it comesto the ropes.. and the crossroads."
Devlin pints backewrds, left and ring and the finally forwards as the car starts to roll for that newly carved path.
"It doesn't matter which road you take...it ends on the floor."
And with that The car peels off and leaves the camera on it's own in the Crossroad dust..
