“Above all else, amigos, this week should be one for the books.”
As the feed opens, Malo makes some additional adjustments to the placement of the iPhone. Normally confident to prop it against a bookshelf, on a table, or most recently on the edge of an airplane lavatory, this week he finds himself without any of these things to aid him. Instead, he does his best to hold the camera at a comfortable distance from himself with minimal shaking.
“Amigos,” he continues, a smile creeping across a tired looking face, “Mi amigo, Juan, he is on the Spring Breaks and say that he is needing to visit his elderly nana in Cabo. Malo, he knows the love between a boy and his abuela – so he says to Juan, ‘Juan’, y this is where Juan he try to be the funny guy and tell Malo his name y John. ‘Juan’, I says, ‘you go to Cabo and you give your nana a gran hug from Malo!’
So, without Juan, Malo is back to filming himself – but I is apologize in case I is rusty. You see, Malo, he could not wait a few days to start this.” From behind the luchador the rest of the room comes more into focus and it’s clear that he’s in a locker room. “Open Fighting Night numéro diecinueve is only a few days away y Malo, he can still hear the fans cheering and chanting for the Bueno Club as they is taking down their opponents already!
Most peoples,” he grins, “has probably heard the news by now; Malo y his amigo, Zasshu, are officially in the hunt to be the best tag team in the Imperials. Most peoples” he muses, “most would only put in this much effort if there were the tag teaming titles to fight over – but not the Bueno Club – we is doing this in spite of that fact.
This is the problem with titles. When Malo, he is winning titles, he sees it as the most great of honors. The title, it is meaning that Malo has the responsibility to be that much better …
That much more of the leader …
When Malo, he is champion, peoples is coming out of the woodworking for the chance to silence mi words.
They is learning quickly, though, that negativity breeds negativity, and Malo – he is not a breeder … he is the wrestler!
But like all of the good things, eventually Malo, he is losing this title, or that title. While others, they are cursing and stomping their feet like the little children, I is looking at it as a passing of the torch. This was an opportunity to see how much these companies could continue to grow without Malo behind the wheel.
But Malo, he notices that not everyone is sharing his same drive.
Many of the peoples who fought for mi belts has drifted away, never to be heard from agains. It is sad, because Malo, he was hoping that with a new champion, this might be the incentives for others to keep plugging away – to keep trying.
Instead, Malo is seeing peoples just stop caring.
The allure was with the title, but never with the prestige that is coming with it.
So Malo, he is vowing that if he is winning another title, that this time he is making sure that his successor will continue to carry on the honor and commitment that should come with a championship.
Imperials, though, they is not having tag teaming championships; this is making Malo y Zasshu smile. For once, it can be clear that the people we is facing each week, they are not ‘in it for the gold’ as I is hearing peoples say.
This week, at the Open Fight Nights, Zasshu y Malo are set to be facing off against a pair that many peoples are calling unbeatable.
Dos of the best luchadors in the world … ten years ago.
The IWO that Malo, he is once admiring has gotten,” he looks pained by the words about to be uttered, “lazy … entitled …”
Malo shakes his head from side to side slowly, the pain on his face taking a harder edge, “You, Señor Dominicus, has begun to believe your own hype. You is believing that the tanned muscle mans, with all of his charisma and flowery words, is unstoppable; untouchable if you will,” he says with a small wink.
“But, señor, you is about to find out just how touchable you really is.
Two of the top chicos on the tag teaming scene are gunning for you, amigo; both of us has a piece of what it takes to be ‘the guy’, as well.
Señor Xtremo, he has the sheer insanity that it takes to be ‘the chico’. He has shown, on more than the uno occasion, that while his elevator only goes so far,” he holds his hand up, parallel to the ground, but not quite to the top of his head, “it hasn’t stopped him from getting the job done. Xtremo’s biggest flaw has been that he is hard to control. This,” Malo says with a grin, “is a match where he is needing to be controlled.
The big difference, though, between Señor Xtremo and,” he pauses, “mi amigo, Zasshu, would be the desire to succeed; something that anyone who has faced mi amigo, can see.
Desire is something that the gran hombre has in spades. Malo, he has faced this mans in the ring; measured himself against one of the best pure wrestlers Malo has seen – and walked away with an even greater respect.
Malo he has the intensity and the desire to be a campeone here in the Imperials, but more important like – I is not driven by this.
See, Malo, he is the real deal, chicos.
Zasshu? He is the real deal.
We is the main event.
So, let Malo just say this, señors; challenge Malo, challenge Zasshu, challenge the Bueno Club. Be more than what you has shown us, recently.
Either that or just give it up, call it a career and get the heck off of MI show.
Olé!”
