WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?
Wow! The Viewers Choice show is in the books, and although the fan favourite "Mediocre Canadian Bash" didn't win in the polls, boy did the show deliver! We had some insane surprises, some incredible matches and some intense moments.....I'm Tyler Jacobs, and this, is "What Just Happened!?"
First off, we have to give credit to the women of the IWF because the Iron Maiden has always been one of the standout matches of the company, and this year didn't fail. We saw some of the best of the division lock up, and some of the newer additions to the roster really step up their game, but just like last year when it was Fiona McFly who really rose above it all, this year, it was Pandora Freeman who stepped above everyone else and claimed that throne for herself. Ladies and gentlemen your Iron Maiden 2017 - Pandora Freeman. Lately we've seen quite a shift in her personality, and with her sights now set on Paige Garcia and the Diamonds Championship? It looks like things are certainly going to heat up going in to Night of the Immortals.
Speaking of our Diamonds Champion, one of the low points of the night has to be the so-called Diamonds Championship match. Paige was scheduled to fight Gabriella Luna for the title, but earlier in the night we saw someone attacked her sister Sara - this, we thought, might make a fair one on one match between Paige and Gabriella, perhaps even lead to a new champion, but instead the match never happened. The masked attacker was revealed to be Alexis Caffrey and she took out Paige Garcia before she could even get to the ring, robbing Luna of her match, and in fact all of us, of a Diamonds championship match. We have to wonder now, with Alexis throwing her weight around....what is going to happen with the Diamonds division?
However, that seemed to be a trend for the night as not a single championship changed hands at Motor City Mayhem! Buck Spencer was not enough to topple Bob Pooler, who was on a bit of a tear after falling short to Steve Awesome recently, Eternity took down Fiona McFly in a Last Diamond Standing Match - which means Eternity has now amassed ten....TEN Shield Maiden defences, which is a feat yet to be achieved by anyone on the roster, it is, in fact, the most defence any champion has ever had across the federation. The question now stands, who, if anyone, can beat Eternity?
Another seemingly undefeatable foe, was that of the "God of Steel" Spike Kane, and with the deck stacked against him (if you asked him) he took on Devlin Raine in a man of steel rules match, with Andrew Jacobsen as the special guest referee. Although Devlin came up just short, he really showed the world what he had to offer, and came within an inch of toppling the giant, which seemed to rifle Spike, as Devlin just wouldn't stay down. Spike tried to make sure of this....and Andrew tried to stop him, which led to Spike hitting Andrew with a Thunderstruck for good measure and another official counting Devlin out. Now, this bled into the second match of the night for Spike Kane the "All In" match with Andrew Jacobsen, which the full title of, is a bit of a mouthful.....so here goes, the winner of the match would go on to Night of the Immortals to face the Imperial Champion AND become the Man of Steel Champion if Spike retains earlier in the night. SO, knowing Spike retains, we go into the match....except Andrew - having had enough of Spike, jumps him before the match and the two just wail on each other! I mean they go to town, and brutalise each other! Eventually they end up in the ring, and just when it looks like Spike may be able to put Andrew down for the count? The lights go out...
AND WARREN KANE RETURNS!!!!
Oh my god, did ANYBODY see that coming!?
Warren showed up in the ring, and sent the God of Steel packing. I still have goosebumps. Andrew was kind of grateful, but Warren didn't hang around for any glad handing. Instead, he headed right back up the ramp, and only god knows what is in store for the Kane Family.
But then we're left with Andrew Jacobsen aren't we? He's going to Night of Immortals....but who is he going to face?
Well, we saw what appears to be the final nail in the saga between Cable Arcane and Noah Field, and perhaps even the House of Howlett itself. The feud between the two has been personal, it's been volotile, and it's seen the House completely shift it's persepective and members over the past few months. What was once the most dominant force in the IWF had all but faded into the background, but had firmly alligned itself behind Noah Field, who at the time...had become the Imperial Champion. It seemed like the right move to make, right? WRONG! They chose to side against Cable Arcane, and that was a bad choice, as Cable proved at Motor City Mayhem. He held onto his Imperial Championship and remains the only person in the history of the company to be a two time Imperial Champion and is going to Night of Immortals, and he's seemingly going to face Andrew Jacobsen.....right?
Well, that's where we have our last "holy shit!" moment for the night, because who decided to show his face?
ROBERTO GOD DAMN VERONA.
Roberto showed up with his "Imperial" title, and raised it high in the air. It left us all with so many questions. WHO is the rightful champion? WHAT does this mean for Night of the Immortals? WHERE does this leave Andrew Jacobsen?
As always ladies and gentlemen, I'm Tyler Jacobs, and I'll catch you next time.
