2nd May, 2017 - Sisters Before Misters
I never had any doubt that Astrid and I would stand tall, that we would have each others backs. Some people, you can just tell who they are, you can tell everything about them, by the way they present themselves. You have the likes of Charity who present themselves as nothing but a snobby waste of air, and when it comes to crunch time? That’s exactly what you get. She had no interest of getting into that ring with two warriors, with two women who could dissect her, let alone the beast that is Rowan….
That woman isn’t human, I swear by everything holy, and everything before and after that.
Look, I’ve lived up to my stereotype, alright? I love to fight, I’ve been in my fair share of fights….but that “woman”? She nearly broke the two of us, and I’m not even remotely ashamed to admit it. The difference maker though? Was the what makes people like Astrid and I stand out. What makes us different to everyone else on the roster. The trust we have in each other, the faith we have that the sister on the apron has our back….
Our shield sister.
We have Emma Danielson in common, and it showed. That absolute legend helped us become the women we are today, and it showed by the way we geled in the ring at Sacrifice, it showed by how we worked as a team, and how we covered each other, how we protected each other. Something we always knew Charity and Rowan never would do, it was almost a foregone conclusion that this week at Orange Fight Night…
Irish Appreciation Night….
It’d be sister versus sister.
I’ve never been one to believe in fate.
But this is becoming harder and harder to not accept.

We open up on the medical room in the arena just as Sacrifice is coming to a close. Shea O’Hara is sitting on the bench, holding an ice pack on her jaw, but somehow smirking. Her legs dangle off the edge, as she looks up to the small monitor in the room showing the end of the “tag team” match between Gabby and Pan versus Paige and Alexis. The trainer is just leaving the room when Shea spots Jayson Matthews standing outside, looking a little nervous.
Shea: Jay, is that you?
Jayson doesn’t respond to her voice, but shuffles inside the room. He closes the door behind him and leans against it, an almost paranoid look on his face as he eyes Shea up.
Jayson: You saw him too didn’t you!
The look in Shea’s eyes tells Jayson everything he needs to know. Shea looks down at the floor, lowering the ice pack from her jaw as she does so and all but letting it hang, Jayson moves towards the bench and leans back on it, standing right next to Shea.
Jayson: I thought I was going mad, thought I was seeing things. Like it was some sort of guilty-
Shea: Conscience.
Jayson: Yeah!
The two sit there in a moment of silence. Shea looking a little forlorn, and Jayson idly twiddling his thumbs.
Jayson: You know….he ugh…..he accepted my open challenge for Orange Fight Night.
Shea: Please don’t call it that.
Jayson: What, Orange?
Shea: Yes.
Jayson: Why?
Shea: Because it’s stupid, and almost as offensive as Gillmen himself….
The words hang in the air, and the conversation dies once again. Both of them sit there again in silence. They’d never really interacted much before, but they both had that one friend in common, and it had drawn them together now.
Shea: You gonna go through with it?
Jayson: The match?
Shea: Yeah….
Jayson: I think so. I mean, he said he wanted to pick up where he left off, and he left off in a match with me before…
Shea: Spike.
Jayson: Yeah.
Now the two of them look up, almost as if the door facing them was the Man of Steel himself and they were staring daggers at him. Warrens dad had taken away their best friend from them, and it had been so long since either of them had seen him.
Shea: I hope it goes well Jayson. I hope you can reach him, I really do….
Jayson: Yeah, me too. I miss him man. I just miss my friend.
Shea: You and me both.
Jayson: You got Astrid, right?
Shea: Yup.
Jayson: Gonna be tough.
Shea: Oh yes.
Jayson: But you could end up with a match against Eternity….
He says the words and they hang in the air, once more we’re left with Shea and Jayson just sitting and standing there in silence. Jayson turns to look at her now, the awkwardness gone, instead replaced with an animated excitement about him.
Jayson: You ever think that these things are happening for a reason? I mean like, I’ve really started getting my game together, been striking up some victories….Warren is back, and now you’ve got a pretty decent chance at getting some sweet revenge on Eternity and Night of the Immortals no less?
Shea: ….you’ve got a point, you know?
Shea slides off the bench, and starts to head towards the door, opening it.
Shea: Say, what you up to tonight?
Jayson: Not much, why?
Shea: I’ve been a little freaked since I saw “Warren” or, y’know, was pretty frikkin’ sure I saw Warren….fancy coming back with me and just watching something? Maybe something like the Princess Bride?
Jayson: Oh Shea, I’m sorry, I’m not trying to hit on you-
Shea gives him a dig in the arm.
Shea: Dude, I’m seeing Will, don’t be a tool. Not every girl wants your dingaling, I just want a friend….
Jayson beams from ear to ear and nods his head, as the two of them head from the room, and they shut the door behind them.

6th May, 2017 - Fairytales
I always loved fairytales as a little girl. My Ma would read them to me every night, all snuggled up in bed with my teddy bears….like a huge mountain of them. I loved stories, I loved being read to and I loved to read. Fairytales always put you to sleep with a smile, because though they might be scary, though there might be evil forces…..the hero always triumphed, good always won the day.
Now I find myself staring down the barrel of a fairytale, and it makes me smile.
I wonder if my Ma ever thought I’d grow up to be the hero? I mean, I played the damsel in distress too, and I thought that was my role, especially when Eternity broke my arm...but here I am now, one more match away from earning myself a shot at redemption. Nobody else is swooping in to save me, nobody else is stepping in to slay the mighty evil beast no….
This girl is going to save herself.
Admittedly though, there’s still some steps to take. Eternity still has to make it to Night of the Immortals, and I? I have arguably my toughest match to date, I have to fight Astrid Hall who wants this championship more than anybody I have ever met. So boy, does IWF have one hell of a match in store for itself here. I mean, the Diamonds Division has some pretty heavy hitters, trust me, I found that out last week, but Astrid and I? We’re capable of stealing the show, and the truthful thing is, everybody knows it.
I also know how much this means to you Astrid.
I’m not expecting you to step aside and let me rush head first towards Eternity and the Shield Maiden, I’d never expect that of anyone with as much integrity as yourself. I know you respect me, and I know you respect those who fight for what they believe in, who fight for what they want. I once held the Shield Maiden championship, I know what holding that gold means, and what it can do for your career…..I fell, and I fell a long way. Eternity was a big part of that, and yeah, I’m almost salivating at the thought of going to Night of the Immortals to face her…..but I’m not looking past you Astrid, not by a long shot. My dream of redemption is there, within touching distance….
But it isn’t what I came back for.
Facing women like you is the reason I came back, being able to get in the ring and putting on some of the best matches of the show? Yeah, that is what I’m all about. Rocking the house and really showing what the IWF Diamonds are capable of. The real Diamonds, the ones who carry the load, who get in there week after week and fight. The ones who train and push themselves, the ones who hone their craft, not the types who get by on their looks, or who they are shagging this week, or some “accidental” nip slips or nude photo leaks….no…
We’re warriors.
So I’m expecting a fight come Sacrifice Astrid, I’m expecting a battle, one of, if not the hardest I’ll ever face in my career. I’ll give you everything I have, but I want you to know, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. Respect earned and forged in battle, respect that you deserve. I feel we are kindred spirits, and I’ve never looked forward to sharing the ring with someone as much as I do this week. Yes, there is a prize, a prize we both want, and want pretty badly, but at the end of the day? We’re here to be the best, both of us are. We’re here to improve, and show the world that they need to take note of us. Astrid Hall and Shea O’Hara, one of us is going to Night of the Immortals, I want it to be Astrid, I really do…..but I know deep down that you’re going to make me earn it, and if it’s not? If you beat me and you go on to Night of the Immortals?
I’ll still have your back.
