Amber Lynn: That was really stupid Ryan…
Her voice comes through the phone, and Ryan doesn’t appreciate the tone in her voice. Ever since the beating he took at the hands of Spike Kane, all Ryan has been able to do is rest his broken body. It goes well with his broken heart.
His cousin Brian has been doing the best to take care of him, but he is no nurse. Ryan has been icing his body and downing painkillers. He really isn’t in the mood for a verbal lashing. It still didn’t stop him from calling her.
Amber Lynn: I know I can’t stop you from wrestling, I’ve tried. I just thought you were smarter than this.
She thinks getting in the ring with Spike Kane was a stupid idea. Why? He is every bit as good as Spike Kane. Despite what happened, Ryan knows deep down he could beat the man. He might be dangerous, but he is a man all the same.
Ryan Shane: I didn’t call so you can tell me about how bad my decision making is. You lost that privilege when you walked out on me.
Probably not the best thing to say when you are trying to win the love of your life back.
Amber Lynn: Let’s not do this.
Ryan Shane: I’m not trying to do anything.
Amber Lynn: It sure seems like it.
There is a moment of silence between the two of them.
Ryan Shane: I’m sorry Amber.
Amber Lynn: I know…
Another moment of silence.
Ryan Shane: How’s my son?
Amber Lynn: Good, he misses you.
Ryan Shane: I know I can’t stay at Ethan’s but as soon as I’m healed up I’ll be back to see you guys. I miss him more than anything.
Amber Lynn: I’d like that...I mean he’d like that.
For the next while they talked on the phone. Amber caught him up on what’s been going on with the baby. In that moment Ryan was happy.

Brian: I wasn’t expecting you back…
Ryan Shane: Where else would I go?
He tosses his bags down next to the door. Ryan then goes to the fridge and grabs himself a beer before crashing down on the couch. All Brian can do is roll his eyes.
Brian: I just figured after what happened before you left, you might have just stayed on the road for awhile.
Ryan Shane: I thought about it. That’s why I’m home later than expected. I was going to drive straight home but I needed time to think. That’s why I got a hotel room…
Brian: And?
Ryan knows what he’s asking.
Ryan Shane: Yeah, I drank until I passed out. It’s the only way I can cope with things.
Brian: You don’t need to do that? You have people who care about you?
He tries to grab the beer out of Ryan’s hand.
Ryan Shane: I don’t see what’s the big deal? I was safe. I didn’t drive home. Nobody's getting hurt!
Brian can’t believe what he is hearing.
Brian: Nobody is getting hurt? You’re hurting yourself! You’re hurting me! You’re hurting your mom!
Ryan looks up at him.
Brian: Who do you think she calls when you don’t return her calls? Who do you think has to lie to her and tell her you’re ok? It’s me.
Ryan Shane: No one asked you to do that…
Brian: I know. I do it because I love you. There are people in your life that love you.
Ryan Shane: I know…
Brian sits down next to his cousin and puts his arm around his cousin.
Ryan Shane: It’s just so hard. I miss them so much…
Ryan drops the untouched beer and it falls to the floor. The two cousins share a hug and for the first time in a long time, Ryan cries.

It’s only been a couple of weeks, but things are feeling good. I’m finally at one hundred percent after not one, but two beatings by Spike Kane. Spike doesn’t have to worry about me being out for blood. He doesn’t have to worry about anything...yet.
I know that if I keep doing what I’m doing, things will work themselves out.
All I want to do in let my in ring work speak for itself. That’s all the really matters in this business. Nighthawk knows that, and now he’s out of commission. It wasn’t my fault, but I’m not blameless in what happened. If he never steps foot in the ring again, I’ll forever be tied to it.
It’s a tragedy, what happened. I wasn’t going to let it stop me from doing what I had to do, my job. Once the bell rang against Dorian Hawkhurst I stay focused. It was that focus that lead me to victory.
I’ve been talking about how my time is right now for years. It’s time for me to start believing it myself.

Teddy Steele…is a bitch.
I know that sounds harsh, it really does, but am I wrong?
When I look up and down the IWF roster I like to think that everyone under contract has a reason for being here. Why would the IWF waste their time on anyone when they are the premiere wrestling company in the world? It wouldn’t make much sense.
I’ve been thinking about where Teddy Steele fits in, and I can’t find it. At first I thought perhaps he had another role outside of occasional wrestler, but I couldn’t find it. Then there is the obvious, his wife. That was another dead end. What benefit would an association with Kate Steele really have, especially when she is barely hanging in there as well?
The answer is, Teddy Steele doesn’t belong in the IWF.
He sure as hell doesn’t belong in the ring with me.
I’m Ryan Shane, former Man of Steel champion. Despite a less than perfect career in the IWF, I know that I belong here. I’ve proved it. What has Teddy proved? All he has done is proved he has no value. He is worse than...well, I think they’re called the jobbers.
There are people on the roster who know when they step in the ring that there is a very slim chance they are going to win. They are just happy to get the paycheck. I think it’s no secret the IWF pays very well.
The point I’m trying to make is, even the lowest of the low serve a purpose.
Teddy though, he thinks himself better than that. He isn’t here to just earn his pay. When he gets in the ring, he tries. He wants to win. The truth is, he just isn’t very good. Actually, he’s downright terrible.
He may just be the worst thing in the IWF.
None of that really matters though. At Sacrifice he will be in the ring with me. It wouldn’t matter if Teddy was adequate in the ring. He has zero chance of beating me. On another night? Doubtful. But this week? I’ve been working too hard to come back to have anything derailed by Teddy Steele.
So Teddy,...
I hope you don’t get your hopes up too high. It can’t be a great feeling to be the butt of everyone’s jokes. At least you can count on one thing. I won’t be trying to make an example out of you. The only goal I have in our match in winning. Sure, at this point I’ll do whatever it takes, but we both know it won’t take much.
This isn’t about you Teddy, it’s about me.
This is about taking my rightful place back in the IWF again. This is about getting what I deserve. That’s all I want, just don’t call it any form of redemption.
Teddy, this match can go one of two ways. You can either be put down for a three count, or you can tap in the middle of the ring.
There are no other options.
None.
