Some people assume (wrongfully) that Spike Kane would never lose the Man of Steel Championship. They saw his reign as one that would last until he deemed fit. However the New Dawn rose at Night of the Immortals and one man saw fit to the end the reign of a God.
Devlin Raine.
For the first time in the history if IWF the Joker in the Pack brief case was cashed in on the same night it was won. Devlin Raine entered himself into the Man of Steel Championship match and despite all odds Devlin left the cage as the NEW Man of Steel Champion!
For some, defeating the God of Steel would be enough but not for Devlin Raine. He desired to be a fighting champion and put out a challenge on Open Fight Night that was quickly answered by former Man of Steel Champion, Ryan Shane.
Ryan Shane is one of the premiere Man of Steel Champions in his own right, having one of the most successful reigns since Ryan Blade and before Spike Kane. Ryan Shane has pined for the Man of Steel Championship since returning to IWF and jumped at the chance to get into the ring with Devlin Raine.
The match was hard fought and Ryan Shane nearly defeated Devlin Raine however Devlin managed to pin the shoulders of Shane to the mat just long enough to score the three count and therefor deny Ryan Shane a future championship match. At first it looked like Ryan Shane was going to take the loss in stride and walk away however the second Devlin turned his back on his challenger, Ryan Shane attacked.
Shane hit a devastating lung blower and then used the Man of Steel Championship to lay Devlin Raine out.
Many probably thought the Man of Steel title would fade into the background of IWF television once Spike Kane lost it but after Open Fight Night it is now clear the Man of Steel Championship is more important than ever.
Ryan Shane is more than likely just the first to step up to the Man of Steel plate but he surely will not be the last and if Shane has it his way the next challenger will have to go through him.
Devlin Raine has overcome the odds before, can he do it again?
